When I reported on the Los Angeles area fire, threatening the famed Getty Center Museum, I was deeply worried that the Santa Ana winds would ignite another blaze somewhere in the vicinity of my hometown, San Diego. This fear materialized the day after that post, and a retirement community and equestrian center were the first victims in the area's rural community of Fallbrook:
Flames were practically on top of Dick and Joan Marsala's home when they got an urgent knock on the door and were told to leave.

One of the only times I've ever seen my father, a career military man and Vietnam veteran, express genuine concern over the direction of our country was in the wake of the FBI's fall from grace under James Comey.  Generally, my dad is upbeat about the perseverance of Americans because of his extensive study of our nation's history and his belief in American exceptionalism.  His disappointment that the FBI, one of the last agencies to lose its good standing among the American people, had succumbed to blatant partisan politics and could no longer be trusted on points of law enforcement and investigation was palpable . . . and heart-breaking. I mention this only because the revelation that an FBI agent, Peter Strzok, who supervised both the Hillary email investigation and the Trump-Russia probe sent anti-Trump text messages to his alleged mistress, an FBI lawyer, goes straight to the heart of many Americans' sense that the FBI should be fair and impartial, working with an eye on the bigger historical and legal picture, above the petty politics of the day.

California billionaire Tom Steyer has caught the eye of many since he decided to fund an advertising campaign worth $20 million that calls for President Donald Trump's impeachment. Considering how much Democrats hate Trump, you would think those within the party would love this campaign. It turns out it has raised worries as some think it will harm the party more and turn away the independents and even some GOP voters they want to bring over to their side.

Some anti-Trump folks have come up with the proof-positive that Trump is a bigot, because he demanded the death penalty for the New York Islamic terrorist Sayfullo Saipov, but didn't demand the death penalty for Las Vegas white-guy shooter Stephen Paddock. Ironically, it might actually create a legal problem in obtaining the death penalty for Saipov that a president has made that demand so publicly.

The GOP has had a pretty good racket going.  They tell us that in order to stop ObamaCare and any of a score of other disastrous laws, policies, and regulations, they need the next goal because the last one wasn't enough. The GOP told us they had to have the House, so we gave them the House.  Then they needed the Senate, so we gave them that.  Then they couldn't do a thing without the White House, so we gave them that.  The cynical GOP game is clear:  Ever-moving goal posts coupled with the rejection of the will of the people who elected them.

On Tuesday, The Washington Post reported that the Democrats and failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton funded the now-debunked Trump Dossier that has allegations of collusion between now-President Donald Trump and Russia. Today, the non-partisan Campaign Legal Center filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) that claims Hillary's campaign and the DNC violated campaign finance law over payments for the Trump Dossier.

Democrats and the left have been attempting a soft coup on the Trump presidency since election day. One of the key factors in this attempt to unseat a duly-elected president was the now infamous and thoroughly-debunked "Trump dossier" that falsely alleged Trump connections to, even collusion with, Russia. This document, it is now being reported, was funded by the Clinton campaign and by the DNC, then led by disgraced former DNC chair Debbie Wassermann-Schultz.

The remaining files related to the JFK assassination are required to be released on October 26th.  As the date approaches, the media began musing about how likely President Trump is to block their release, at least in part. On Friday, Politico published an article entitled, "Trump Likely to Block Release of Some JFK Files."  It is standard procedure to hold back and/or redact information that is potentially damaging to national security, but Politico makes it sound like some dastardly Trumpian plot to hide information from the public. The article was sourced by "anonymous White House officials" and was quickly picked up by other outlets and made the social media rounds.  Why a source needs to be anonymous to state the obvious is anyone's guess.

Obama's Attorney General Eric Holder gave the appearance of partisan hackery and outright corruption since early in his tenure at the Department of Justice.  According to Holder, we are a "nation of cowards" for not focusing on race and racial "justice," and we need to "brainwash" Americans to hate and fear guns.

The leftstream media is trolling the White House bigly over Ivana Trump's joke about being the "first lady." Having first decided there was something fishy about First Lady Melania Trump's decision to let her and the president's youngest son finish his school year in New York before moving to the White House, then created a flurry of accusations that Melania secretly hates her husband and won't hold his hand, they've now landed on an imagined insult to her from Trump's first wife, Ivana. Almost every day some mainstream media reporter breaks a story about how the White House is in meltdown and the only thing standing between the nation and the abyss is Chief of Staff Gen. John Kelly. Depending which "scoop" you are reading, Trump also is about to fire Kelly or Kelly's about to quit or Kelly is staying to protect the nation from Trump. These scoops create a media and political frenzy that have anti-Trump politicians and media talking about invoking the 25th Amendment or some other type of intervention.

Stanley Cup champions Pittsburgh Penguins visited the White House Tuesday despite pressure from the Golden State Warriors refusal drop by the White House to celebrate their NBA championship win. The left went CRAZY on social media and one outlet even downplayed the tradition of visiting the White House.

It's hard to find an apt comparison in U.S. media for the role that Haaretz plays in Israeli media. Haaretz is "far-left" in its opinion content, but also has some excellent straight news reporting, particularly on security issues. And when I say "far-left," I emphasize "far" in that equation. Reading some of Haaretz's opinion columnists makes it hard to distinguish the paper from anti-Israel Islamist polemicists. Haaretz has little readership in Israel precisely because it has tied its fortunes to the marginalized Israeli left. But Haaretz's English language website has outsized influence in the West, particularly among left-wing Jews in the U.S., who must imagine Haaretz represents a sustantial portion of the Israeli electorate.

The Washington Free Beacon broke the story revealing the donors of the anti-Trump "resistance." The donation list is revealing on a number of levels.  It shows the extensive, spider-web interconnectivity of a network of leftist radicals and organizations, and it shows how they ensnare major corporations into financially supporting their radical, anti-American aims. The list includes the usual suspects like George Soros and some suspects new to the political activist realm, namely, the NFL players' union who were happy to join Soros in his latest astroturf efforts, manufacturing the appearance of wide-spread anti-Trump "resistance."
