The last time we checked on California's outbreak of Hepatitis A, a liver-impacting disease transmitted through fecal matter, a 17th person in San Diego had succumbed to the disease. Public health officials warn that the outbreak could last for months, and possibly years.
Dr. Monique Foster, a medical epidemiologist with the Division of Viral Hepatitis at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told reporters Thursday that California’s outbreak could linger even with the right prevention efforts.

Since President Trump's election, we've seen remarkable ideological turnarounds from the left.  Suddenly, communist Russia is the enemy rather than a model for the perfect society ala Bernie's decades-long admiration, the First Amendment is now of some import in protecting free speech (theirs and no one else's), and the unrestrained spending of the federal government is now a problem. These are the same people who have said nothing about Obama nearly doubling our national debt, who cue up to sing the praises of Bernie's Russia-inspired budget-busting lunacy regarding free college and Medicare for all, and who shrug and note that a few million taxpayer dollars used to train for a zombie apocalypse is merely a drop in the bucket of the federal budget.

We still know very little about Las Vegas mass murderer Stephen Paddock, and that's probably the way he wanted it to be. So it seems apropos that the photo of him most widely circulated after the killings shows him with his eyes closed. So far, it seems he left no obvious note or manifesto to explain himself, either, unlike so many other mass murderers with political or ideological motivations. Neither family members nor his girlfriend say they can shed any light whatsoever on what might have caused him to murder 59 people and injure over 500 others.

Five years ago today "Fuzzy Slippers" became an author at Legal Insurrection. 2012 was a very good year, as we also recently celebrated 5 year anniversaries for A.F. Branco, Mike LaChance, and Leslie Eastman. But that is not the start of the Fuzzy story. Starting in early 2010, Fuzzy had her own blog first at Google Blogger (didn't we all?), Fuzzy Logic. That "blogspot" blog no longer exists, except in bits and pieces on the Wayback Machine. Then she got all fancy (didn't we all?) and moved to Wordpress in early 2012, Fuzzy Logic:

President Donald Trump's administration has decided to roll back a portion of Obamacare that mandates a private company must include birth control coverage in health insurance plans. From The Washington Examiner:
The new rules allow any employer to be exempt from the mandate "based on its sincerely held religious beliefs" or on "moral convictions." Employers who decide not to provide coverage do not need to inform the federal government but would need to tell their employees about their decision.

Sources have told The Associated Press that Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the man rescued from former President Barack Obama in exchange for Taliban members at Gitmo, is expected to plead guilty to charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy to avoid a trial. Obama showed off Bergdahl and made a big deal of his exchange deal with the Taliban, but it didn't take long for news to surface that Bergdahl actually deserted his post in Afghanistan and put other soldiers in danger.

The anger and annoyance towards House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other Democrat leaders continues to boil as the fifth-ranking Democrat in the House, Rep. Linda Sánchez (CA), has asked for a change. From The Washington Post:
“I do think it’s time to pass a torch to a new generation of leaders, and I want to be a part of that transition,” Sánchez said on C-SPAN’s “Newsmakers” in an interview conducted by reporters with The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times. “I want to see that happen. I think we have too many great members here that don’t always get the opportunities that they should. I would like to see that change.”

In late August, we covered the attempts of certain leftist interest groups to challenge the pardon granted former Sheriff Joseph Arpaio by President Trump. Media and activist Trump-Derangement-Syndrome types like Jennifer Rubin at the Washington Post gave credence to the arguments against a pardon, but there never was any there there, as I wrote in Overblown hype about Court scheduling oral argument in dismissal of Arpaio conviction.
