October 2015

For years we've been reporting how President Obama has been trying to insert as much daylight as possible between the United States and Israel. But the reality is that the American-Israeli “special relationship” will weather the storm of this “needlessly combative” administration. Israel is wildly popular among the American public. Americans recognize the shared values and common interests that bind the two countries together. A congressional majority understands the threats Israel faces from the region’s oppressive dictatorships which routinely call for Israel’s destruction, and from political and religious leaders who incite their people to murder Jews.

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz has a history of pushing back against GOP leadership and arguing that too many Republicans in Congress are "election conservatives." Earlier this week, Cruz appeared on Hannity to discuss a new Fox poll that has him as third in the GOP presidential race (behind Trump and Carson), and during the course of the interview, he noted that the GOP establishment "looks down on the voters who elected" them. Watch:

Threats to Republican front runners Dr. Ben Carson and Donald Trump have been so significant that the two candidates will now get protection from the Secret Service. Todd Beamon of Newsmax reports, hat tip to The Gateway Pundit:
Secret Service to Protect Trump, Carson as Threats Grow The Secret Service will give agent protection to Ben Carson and Donald Trump while heavily upgrading Hillary Clinton's existing detail, a Washington source close to the agency’s plans confirmed to Newsmax. The deployment of agents around Republican candidates Trump and Carson is set to begin as early as next week. Approximately two dozen agents will be assigned to each candidate. Clinton, the Democratic front-runner, has had Secret Service protection since leaving the White House as first lady in 2001, but her detail will be heavily upgraded by the agency’s move.

There is a standard fixture at anti-Israel BDS rallies and events -- a map purporting to show loss of Palestinian land to Israel. But it's a completely misleading and false map. Yet MSNBC used it on air today -- a demonstration of how Big Lies become truth when repeated often enough: The map has been debunked so many times in the past, a simple Google search would have demonstrated the problem. Elder of Ziyon blog has written a definitive taken down of the map in 2012, The Map That Lies. The Tower magazine has an exhaustive research post on why the map is a lie, The Mendacious Maps of Palestinian “Loss”.  Even The Economist had an explanation why the map was deceptive in 2010, when blogger Andrew Sullivan used the map. Most important is that Map 1, which purports to show "Palestinian land" as comprising most of the British Mandate (after Britain already has lopped off most of the Mandate land to create Jordan) does not show "Palestinian" land at all. As Elder of Ziyon explained, that land was mostly public land, and there was no country of Palestine:

I can't believe I missed Legal Insurrection's 7th anniversary on October 12, 2015. I even had the date on my calendar, but I've been so distracted lately I didn't pay attention. The lights were turned on here on October 12, 2008. The first post was Obama is Door No. 2:
As in Let’s Make a Deal, choosing Door No. 2 carries great risks. So does choosing Obama. Obama may be a post-racial healer, or he may be someone who carefully uses race and false accusations of racism to advance his political career. Obama may not have known about Jeremiah Wright’s political race-baiting, or he may have known but not cared. Obama may be someone who views this country as inherently good, or he may secretly share the views of his political enabler, William Ayers, that this country is inherently bad. We may know Obama better than Jeremiah Wright and William Ayers know Obama, or we may not know Obama at all.
And the fourth post was “Race” As Political Weapon:
We are on the verge of electing a president who built his political career on the backs of race-baiters and anti-american zealots, and we can’t talk about it out of fear of being called “racist.”

What makes a freakin' awesome grandma? With 23 grandkids, Ann Romney knows. IJ Review's latest shows Mrs. Romney wielding a light saber, knitting a Kanye 2020 sweater, and making it rain... with candy.

Every once in a while, Bill Maher tip toes out of the progressive box and makes statements or asks questions that stun his audience and the media. Reacting to Bernie Sanders' agenda and its estimated $18 trillion price tag, Maher challenged him by asking how America will pay for his radical agenda. Watch: After beginning the interview by stating that he doesn't think "most Americans realize that they’re already socialists," Maher challenges Sanders' the top 1% can pay for everything under the sun premise.

A new commercial for KIA Motors which recently hit the airwaves is getting noticed on the internet for challenging the concept of participation trophies. In the ad, a father and son walk to their car after a sporting event. The father is stunned to see the word "participant" engraved on the award since his son's team won every game. He asks himself "Are we going to start ending games with hugs instead of handshakes?" Before getting in the car, he tears off the participant label and uses a magic marker to inscribe the word "champs" then hands it to his son with congratulations.

While most of us have been engrossed in the American election saga, our neighbor to the north is preparing for an Oct. 19th election that may be infused with some imported drama. As next week's election draws near, news is that conservative Stephen Harper is going to be replaced with the son a former leftist Prime Minister:
If current polling is to be believed – and recent election upsets in the UK and Israel have taught pundits to take polls with more than a pinch of salt – then Harper will not hold on to government. After languishing in third place for much of the campaign, the Liberals, led by Justin Trudeau - son of former prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau - seem set to return to power. The victory will be particularly sweet here in Ajax, where four-term Liberal MP Mark Holland was routed in 2011 by Chris Alexander, formerly Canada’s ambassador to Afghanistan and now a immigration minister in the Conservative government.
True to form, President Obama cannot resist trying to exert some meaningful influence. Since he is apparently unable to do so in the Middle East, where it may actually help our nation, there are reports he is attempting to sway the Canadian vote.

Dear Future Husband: If you ever abscond to Syria to join a motley band of terrorists, I will not come looking for you. The rise of ISIS has inspired some truly ridiculous tales of total and complete insanity taking hold of people not currently living in the sandy hellscape of the Middle East. National Guardsmen, young men, newlyweds, and even schoolgirls have all attempted (some successfully) to break free the chains of democracy and join the cause in places like Syria and Iraq. Most, if all of them, have done so knowing how terribly dangerous it is to even attempt to make friendly contact with ISIS. They also knew (and were enthusiastic about) the terror group's rise in prominence and brutality, and that their tickets were one-way. Of course, if a recent story out of the UK-by-way-of-Syria is correct, some of them are just there to pick up their husbands.

Back in 2008, Obama supporters would foam at the mouth if you suggested Obama was a socialist. Today, progressive activists are positively giddy about Bernie Sanders who openly identifies as a Democratic Socialist. Now that the mask has come off, should the Democratic Party change its name? MSNBC's Chris Matthews was on The Late Show this week and when host Seth Meyers asked him who best represents Democrats, Matthews suggested it's Bernie. Jeffrey Meyer of NewsBusters has the details (emphasis is his):
Chris Matthews Admits Socialist Bernie Sanders Best Represents Democrats Rather than name frontrunner Hillary Clinton has emblematic of the Democratic Party, Matthews eagerly touted how Socialist Bernie Sanders’ views are the future of the party as it moves ever so far to the left:

How about a little disco inferno to kick off the weekend? Forget primaries. Those are long, boring, and costly. We're proposing a new means of DNC candidate selection -- a dance off. First, Bernie (well, sort of):

Despite popular opinion in favor of second amendment rights, Hillary Clinton has made gun control a centerpiece of her White House bid. Speaking in New Hampshire Friday, Clinton was asked about gun control. "Recently Australia managed to get away, or take away tens of thousands, millions of handguns. In one year, they were all gone. Can we do that? If we can’t, why can’t we?" Clinton responded saying Australia's eradication of firearms was "worth considering" on a national level.

Last Sunday, we published a post showing how Obama pretty much signaled Justice to lay off their investigation into Hillary Clinton's email server. During an interview with 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft, the President threw the FBI's investigation under the bus when he said---without going into much detail---that he didn't think the server posed a national security threat.
Steve Kroft: Do you think it posed a national security problem?

Debbie Wasserman Schultz is not having a good time this cycle. She's facing protests at every turn over her decision to limit the number of officially sanctioned Democratic primary debates, and now her own colleagues are once again lining up to throw her under the bus. Everyone from presidential candidate Martin O'Malley to Nancy Pelosi has accused DWS of terrible leadership and bad decisionmaking. O'Malley even accused her of "rigging" the debate cycle to promote a Hillary Clinton ticket---as did an entire MSNBC panel. Remember? If reports from some Democratic members are to be believed, DWS is getting serious about squashing dissent in the ranks.
