It seems like every few weeks, the Democrats roll out some new strategy or slogan which is intended to help them with the 2018 midterms. The newest one is completely doomed to fail. They're going to try to ignore Trump and not talk about him at all. This should end well.

On Friday it was announced that Senator John McCain had decided to forgo further medical treatments. Tonight he died. Unfortunately, his death will be politicized in many directions. I'll just hope that after an eventful and full life, he rests in peace.

Oberlin College President Carmen Twillie Ambar send an email to the college community on August 23, 2018, followed by a similar email to alumni, regarding faculty sexual misconduct. The situation presented was stark: The college received "several" accusations of faculty sexual misconduct from alumni, leading certain faculty members to resign rather than participate in an investigation.

Real Clear Politics (RCP) is reporting that the vast bulk of Hillary-related emails found on disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner's laptop were not examined by the FBI.  This is in direct contradiction to former FBI chief James Comey's testimony to Congress. According to RCP, the FBI read only 3,000 of over 700,ooo of the emails found on Weiner's laptop, and these 3,000 emails were "hand-picked" by disgraced former FBI agent Peter Strzok.

On August 25, 1988, a tragedy struck in Iran, one that most people do not know about. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa that led to the execution of 30,000 Iranian political prisoners. That fatwa led to "the biggest massacre of political prisoners since World War II." Khomeini targeted members and those loyal to the opposition group People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK).

The word and thought police have reached brand new levels of crazy. Professional race car driver Conor Daly has lost a sponsorship because his father reportedly uttered a racial slur in the 1980's.  To put this in some perspective, Conor wasn't born until 1991, yet he is paying for the sins of his father. I had to double-check this report to make sure it wasn't satire, but sure enough, Conor's dad allegedly said the "N" word more than thirty years ago, so Lilly Diabetes has pulled its sponsorship of his son's No. 6 car in the NASCAR Xfinity race at Road America.

A female student from Sacred Heart University in Connecticut was sentenced to a year in jail this week for falsely accusing two male students of rape. Nikki Yovino, it was revealed, made the accusation because she was worried her consensual experience with the two football players would hurt her relationship with another student.

There is a fascinating new analysis showing that despite the American unemployment rate at historically low levels, there has not been a significant drop in food stamp use.
But while the economy has improved dramatically, food-stamp enrollment has not, declining just 17 percent while the unemployment rate fell three times faster — 62 percent. Why the disconnect? Critics say states are milking the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), overstating their needs, while the Trump administration is approving state “work waivers” it doesn’t have to.

In June, the Argentine soccer team, which includes superstar Lionel Messi, canceled a friendly against Israel in Jersualem after players received threats "that exceeded those of the Islamic State." Video even captured Palestinian Football Association President Jibril Rajoub threatening Messi. Due to these actions, FIFA has banned Palestinian Football Association President Jibril Rajoub for one year.

The family of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has announced that he will end treatment for brain cancer. From The Washington Examiner:
“Last summer, Senator John McCain shared with Americans the news our family already knew: he had been diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma, and the prognosis was serious. In the year since, John has surpassed expectations for his survival. But the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict,” the McCain family said.

A new election model from a conservative polling group has Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley ahead of incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill, 53 to 47 percent. From The Washington Free Beacon:
The model, created by WPA Intelligence and shared with the Washington Free Beacon, was based on predictive data available for each of Missouri's 4,101,062 registered voters and found Hawley to have a six-point advantage over McCaskill, 53 to 47 percent. The model uses available consumer data, voter history, and demographic information to assign each voter with a predictive score.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas has laid out an ambitious plan to counter the United State at the world stage. In an article titled "Making Plans for a New World Order," Minister Mass talked about forming a "counterweight" to the US and called on the the European Union to become "a cornerstone of the international order." "[W]here the USA crosses the line, we Europeans must form a counterweight," German Foreign Minister wrote on Wednesday. "The main goal of our foreign policy is therefore to build a sovereign, strong Europe."
