President Donald Trump's administration decided to delay tariffs on big items such as laptops, smartphones, and toys made in China until December 15. From The Wall Street Journal:
Trade talks appeared in jeopardy after the Trump administration threatened on Aug. 1 to extend tariffs of 10% to $300 billion in Chinese imports not currently taxed, including many consumer goods. They would come on top of 25% tariffs imposed on $250 billion in imports from China.

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini hit back at Richard Gere for criticizing the country's immigration policy. He told the U.S. celebrity to take illegal migrants with him to Hollywood. "Given this generous millionaire is voicing concern for the fate of the Open Arms migrants, we thank him," the Italian politician responded sarcastically. "He can take all the people aboard back to Hollywood, on his private plane, and support them in his villas. Thank you, Richard!"

It's been three days since Jeffrey Epstein reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself using a bedsheet in his jail cell. We are now learning more about what he told people in his final months. New York Times columnist James Stewart penned a disturbing piece for the paper Monday about the last interview he did with Epstein a year ago. Stewart wanted to talk about rumors he'd heard that Epstein was advising Tesla's Elon Musk. Musk's reps deny Epstein advised him in any capacity.

President Donald Trump has promised to roll back business-killing regulations to create a healthier economic climate. Some of the most difficult of those regulations came from the "Endangered Species Act." The government implemented the rules initially to protect whales, eagles, and other wildlife. It eventually devolved into a green dictatorship in which small fish and insects could be used to prohibit land and business development.

Liberal comedian Sarah Silverman said on "The Bill Simmons Podcast" she recently lost a role in a movie after the filmmakers discovered a picture of her in blackface from 2007. From The Hollywood Reporter:
"I recently was going to do a movie, a sweet part, then at 11 p.m. the night before they fired me because they saw a picture of me in blackface from that episode. I didn't fight it," Silverman shared with Simmons. She said that though she understood, she's not that person anymore: "They hired someone else who is wonderful but who has never stuck their neck out. It was so disheartening. It just made me real real sad, because I really kind of devoted my life to making it right."

It's a little quiet here in the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations. Because today is Victory Day, formerly known as VJ Day, formerly known as Victory Over Japan Day. The progression of names to the generic Victory Day was to accomodate the hurt feelings of, umm, who exactly? The Japanese over whom we were victorious and who started it but couldn't finish it? Historically the day is to mark Victory Over Japan, but history is a casualty of the war waged by political correctness and hurt feelings.

So bold. So brave! During the medal ceremony at the Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru, Fencer Race Imboden kneeled during the playing of American National Anthem. Imboden was protesting, "racism, gun control, mistreatment of immigrants and President Donald Trump," reports CNN.
