Talk about low-energy . . . Hillary Clinton sleepwalked through her reaction to news of the NYC bombing of last night. View the video and catch the somnambulistic former Secretary of State speaking, without conviction, in a dull monotone. Compare and contrast with Donald Trump's muscular reaction to the same news, in which he said America needed to get "very tough." Neither candidate had all the details, and leaders should not of course overreact in such situations. Even so, in tough times we want a president to project strength and determination. Trump passed that test. Hillary needs to go back to sleep.

An explosion rocked New York City's Chelsea neighborhood, injuring 29 people. Officials are not saying at this time whether the incident was terror-related. CNN reports:
Police are hunting for answers on what caused an explosion that injured 29 people in New York's Chelsea neighborhood, shortly before a second suspicious device was found nearby. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters early indications are that the explosion at 23rd Street and 6th Avenue in Manhattan at about 8.30 p.m. Saturday "was an intentional act." But, he said, "there's no specific and credible threat against New York City at this time from any terror organization." Investigators believe the blast was caused by an explosive device in or near a dumpster, a law enforcement source told CNN.

Ontario resident Damien Perez is hosting a candlelight vigil for deceased gorilla, Harambe, on September 30. Perez is asking attendees to bring their own candles and bananas.
In order to commemorate the passing of our beloved Harambe, who taught us nothing but kindness, a vigil will be held at Niagra Park. We will sing hymns and mourn together.Anyone is welcome to come join, we will gladly welcome you with open arms just like Harambe did.

Reports of a Muslim woman in traditional Muslim attire being set on fire were met with justifiable shock and horror . . . and assumptions about the nature of the crime. For example, The Guardian pondered the courage it takes "just going out" in traditional Islamic dress.  They followed this up with dire warnings, including:  "We are facing the most hostile environment since the immediate aftermath of 9/11. All Americans must speak out otherwise there will be worse to come." CAIR-NY weighed in with its own condemnation based on the assumption that this was a hate crime. Watch:

An informative approach to the anti-Israel Boycott Divestment and Sanctions movement is to understand the nature of the BDS movement, and how it infiltrates, exploits and ultimately subjugates other Peoples and causes to the anti-Israel purpose. One of the foundational claims of the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement is that Israel is a settler colonial project without legitimacy. But as with the Black Lives Matters, LGBT, environmental and other movements, BDS proved damaging [to American Indian Studies]. BDS was capable of taking over the intellectual territory of other peoples, but it was not for the benefit of any movement other than BDS.

As Marco Rubio faces a tough battle for his Senate seat in Florida, he introduces a new gun bill aimed at limiting terrorist access to guns. The legislation, according to Rubio's Senate website, "builds on some of the best ideas that have been proposed, and improves them in ways that I hope will make a bipartisan solution more likely."

The Syrian army is claiming that the U. S. bombed them in support of ISIS, reportedly killing as many as 80 soldiers and wounding a hundred more. Reuters reports:
Syria's army general command said warplanes from the U.S.-led coalition bombed a Syrian army position at Jebel Tharda near Deir al-Zor airport on Saturday, paving the way for Islamic State fighters to overun it. The air strike killed Syrian soldiers and was "conclusive evidence" that the U.S. and its allies support the jihadist group, the Syrian army said in a statement, noting that the strike was "dangerous and blatant aggression". The U.S.-led coalition has been conducting air strikes against Islamic State since September 2014. In December Damascus accused the coalition of striking an army camp near Deir al-Zor, but Washington said it was done by Russian jets. A strike list issued by the U.S. on Saturday said it had carried out a strike at Deir al-Zor against five Islamic State supply routes, as well as strikes near Raqqa and elsewhere in Syria.

Missouri lawmakers have overridden a veto to allow concealed carry (Missouri already had open carry) and to grant more legal rights for self-defense. KSDK reports:
Missouri lawmakers have overridden a veto of a wide-ranging guns bill that will let more people carry concealed weapons and give them greater legal rights to defend themselves. The Republican-led Legislature enacted the law Wednesday by a 24-6 Senate vote and a 112-41 vote in the House. Both exceeded the two-thirds majority needed to override the veto of Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon. The legislation will allow most people to carry concealed guns without needing a permit. That means they won't have to go through the training currently required for permit holders. Missouri will join 10 other states with what supporters describe as a "constitutional carry" right. The measure also expands legal protections for those who use deadly force to defend themselves in both public and private places.

Matthew Apperson, the man who attempted to shoot George Zimmerman in the head, has been found guilty on all charges, including attempted second degree murder.   As LI's own Andrew Branca explained, not only did Apperson's reports sound fishy, but he had a checkered past that involved threats to "shoot someone."  Apperson will be sentenced next month and faces a 20-year minimum mandatory sentence. Florida Today reports:
A jury found Matthew Apperson guilty after officials say he shot at George Zimmerman in a road-rage incident in Seminole County. The jury reached the guilty verdict on all charges, including attempted second-degree murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and aggravated assault, after more than four hours of deliberations. Apperson will be sentenced on Oct. 17 at 9 a.m. He faces a minimum mandatory 20-year sentence.

Seizing on Donald Trump's suggestion that Hillary Clinton's bodyguards should disarm and "let's see what happens to her," CNN went into full Clinton-campaign mode this morning. Leading the charge was Christi Paul, whom CNN curiously bills as an "anchor" rather than the Clinton surrogate she appears to be. Said Paul to Trump supporter Jeffrey Lord: "let's say Joe Schmoe out in the audience said something like that. That would be seen, most likely, as a threat of some sort, and he would be hauled away. How is it that Donald Trump gets away with it?"
