CNN Anchor: Average Citizen Would Be ‘Hauled Away’ for Making Trump Remark on Disarming Hillary Bodyguards

How Does Trump ‘Get Away With it’ Pouts Christi Paul?

Seizing on Donald Trump’s suggestion that Hillary Clinton’s bodyguards should disarm and “let’s see what happens to her,” CNN went into full Clinton-campaign mode this morning.

Leading the charge was Christi Paul, whom CNN curiously bills as an “anchor” rather than the Clinton surrogate she appears to be. Said Paul to Trump supporter Jeffrey Lord: “let’s say Joe Schmoe out in the audience said something like that. That would be seen, most likely, as a threat of some sort, and he would be hauled away. How is it that Donald Trump gets away with it?

Do “anchors” like Paul have any idea how shrilly partisan they sound? Do they care?

Lord made the logical retort, pointing out the hypocrisy of liberals like Clinton who are constantly surrounded by armed guards but favor a “nuanced” interpretation of the Second Amendment when it comes to the rights of average Americans to defend themselves. Clinton and other liberals also denounce Trump’s proposal for a wall, noted Lord, while living behind walls themselves.

CHRISTI PAUL: Jeffrey, I want to start with you. When you hear that comment, let’s say Joe Schmoe out in the audience said something like that. That would be seen, most likely, as a threat of some sort, and he would be hauled away. How is it that Donald Trump gets away with it?

JEFFREY LORD: Christi, with all due respect, I totally disagree. Hillary Clinton believes in what she told George Stephanopoulos, she called for a quote unquote nuanced reading of the Second Amendment, unquote. Donald Trump’s point here is that once again we’ve got a bunch of elitists who want to have nuanced readings of what everybody else can do or not do with guns. And it isn’t just guns. All these people who oppose the wall to keep illegal immigrants out of the country live behind gated communities.

Note: the way CNN is attempting to change the topic from Hillary’s threat to the Second Amendment to Trump’s supposed threat to Hillary brings to mind the way, as Professor Jacobson noted at the time of the Benghazi disaster, the way the MSM tried to shift the focus from the deaths of Americans to Mitt Romney’s press conference criticizing Obama.

Shrill Hillary begets a shrill media.

How Does Hilliary ‘Get Away With it’ Pouts rinardman?

Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals:
4. “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”

You put this stuff in your rhetoric and I will conclude that you’d like to have that rule put in place. Hillary is against the 2nd Amendment? Then make her live by advocacy.

Isn’t the threat to disarm the population a threat on their lives?

Milhouse in reply to pdxnag. | September 19, 2016 at 4:43 pm

No, it isn’t, and neither is Trump’s call for her to have the courage of her convictions and do without protection. People fling this word “threat” around far too casually. It has a precise legal meaning, and none of these things come even close. Wanting someone to be in danger is not a threat. Even wishing a person dead, or saying they deserve to be killed, is not a threat. A threat is a statement that a reasonable listener would understand to convey a serious intention of personally harming the target. Nothing anyone has said about Trump or Clinton comes even close.

They want to know how Trump can get away with saying something that may have been a threat (no matter how indirect). These same people don’t question how Hillary got off the hook for her actual mishandling of classified information and destruction of government records.

puhiawa in reply to DaveGinOly. | September 17, 2016 at 1:44 pm

These same MSM went absolutely silent when Sander’s supporters assaulted Trump attendees and when a Hillary loon tried to shoot Trump.

If the media really believe Trump’s statement is so dangerous, why do they keep broadcasting it?

I am an ordinary citizen. I demand Hillary disarm her bodyguards.

Come and get me, coppers!

Normal people have no problem comprehending the meaning of Mr. Trump’s statement: Why doesn’t she try to live under the rules she wants to impose on everyone else?

Yet the media reacts like he’s made some sort of a threat. Is it because they are stupid, or is it because they believe that WE are so stupid that we don’t get it?

Contrived hysteria, made up laws. I sense a bit of panic, just like before the 2010 midterm election.

These people really are so stupid that they interpret that as a threat? I know, I know, maybe they’re just being disingenuous. Hillary–and everyone else who demands gun control–should demand that their security staff trade in their guns for signs that say “No Gun Zone.” See how that works.

We’ve been challenging the anti-gun crowd to do that for decades. I’m not aware of any of them actually accepting the challenge…

DaveGinOly in reply to Rusty Bill. | September 19, 2016 at 12:04 am

The hysterical spin is meant to prevent people from thinking about the point Trump was making (and that others have made in the past), and possibly joining in the call for Hillary and other progressive politicians to put their lives where their mouths are (which is where they’d like to put our lives).

I’ve been saying stuff like that for years. If politicians don’t think I am entitled to protect my own life, they shouldn’t be allowed to force me to pay to protect theirs.

It’s not a threat, it’s reality slapping them in the face.

Same old same old. The GOPe, the Cruzers, the AnyoneButTrumpers, the DNC, the press at large, all playing the same game—attack Trump for saying something he didn’t actually say. None of these attacks get much traction outside the ranks of the faithful because, well, ahhh, Trump didn’t say them; and nowadays when everything is on video and posted somewhere, it’s easy to find that out.

So Trump opponents are frustrated; nothing seems to stick. What to do? Try another angle? Easy to say, harder to do. Or, descend into hysterics. That won’t work, but it’s what the Press was probably planning to do anyway.

Actually what a lot do is double down on the claims. Feeling they have to enhance the evidence they exaggerate to the point that what they say is no longer believable.

Epic fail. The people you call the #NeverTrump aren’t part of this conspiracy. In effect you are doing the same thing these people at CNN are doing. Claiming things that aren’t true, and discrediting yourself in the process.

“OMG! You’re just like…” Fill in the blank.

There’s a lot to dislike about Trump. There’s no reason to make things up. But you Trumptards, like CNN, have to make things up.

inspectorudy in reply to tom swift. | September 17, 2016 at 7:07 pm

At this point what do you intend to gain by still insulting Cruz supporters? Are you some sort of savant? Can you count the number of matches in a fallen box on the floor? What is your goal? Do you want as many people to vote for him as possible? Even Trump has started to act like a person with feelings and has stopped insulting most people now. Give it a rest.

There are three types of voters. For sure Hillary. For sure Trump. Undecided.

The for sure Trump voters are positive that this is not a threat.
The for sure Hillary voters are sure it is, now that someone suggested it.

The question is what do the rest think? I’m fairly sure that they hear it for what it is. That the anchors try to stretch it to what it is not just loses them credibility.

Not sure who is generating this new approach within his campaign, Bannon, him, somebody they hired, but the resulting strategic shift seems to be on leveraging the more aggressive opponent’s momentum to send him off balance. The poster above nailed it with his reference to turning Alinsky Rule #4 on them. Without the financial resources to take them head on, let them instead beat themselves.

No CNN you lying idiots! Average Citizen Would Be ‘Hauled Away’ for having Top Secret Code Word material on their personal home sever.

You are so jaded to seeing that Crooked Hillary wins you will say and do anythings to attack Trump.

Like I said before flick you!

    True dat.

Unfortunately if we had an electorate with an interest in such knowledge and capable of thinking that clearly we never would have had at the very least the second term of Clinton 42 let alone the threat of Clinton 45.

I call weapon grade BULL$#&T! Hiprocracy from Hildebeast advocates, as usual. I have said “I will give up my guns when Hillary’s Secret Service Detail gives up theirs”.

The progressive bigotry. The liberal sanctimonious hypocrisy. The tell-tale hearts beat ever louder.

I love the smell of liberal media panic in the morning.

This isn’t an endorsement of Trump, but the political reality is that this media drumbeat against him is a net plus.

Goebbels asserted that if you repeat the big lie often enough it becomes the truth. I’m sure that’s how it appeared in the 1930s. And in the short term it works. But in the long term the big lie defeats itself.

I don’t know how many of you read the book “MiG Pilot” but I did as a kid, and in it Viktor Belenko describes the process. Basically, people get bored listening to the big lie. Then they start noticing things that undermine the big lie. In Belenko’s case it was the lie that America was a cesspool of misery, starvation, and poverty. They kept showing newsreel after newsreel of breadlines and souplines during the Great Depression, to show how horribly capitalism had failed and how much better glorious socialism is.

Belenko dutifully sat through all of the required indoctrination sessions bored out of his skull, but eventually started noticing, if America is so poor, why do you see so many cars parked at the curb or driving down the street in these newsreels? You didn’t see privately owned cars on the streets of Moscow, yet there they were.

We in naval intel call this “a clue.” Belenko started putting them together, flew his Foxbat to Hokkaido, and the rest as we say is history.

It works the same way with, say, Islam. Nearly on a daily basis in Europe or America, if not actually on a daily basis, some Muhammad will go on a killing spree shouting Allahu Akbar. And predictably the gub’mint and MSM shills will immediately declare this violence to have nothing to do with Islam.

Like Belenko, haven’t we all noticed this violence has everything to do with Islam?

Goebbels might be forgiven, if such a word can be used in connection with Goebbels, for overestimating the utility of repeating the big lie. Belenko’s flight to freedom (and it wasn’t the first one) proves the big lie can’t sustain itself.

Trump will benefit from the same effect.

I read that book too. I remember when he saw the “opulence” of the Washington, D.C. area, he thought it was a “special area” for political elites. His CIA handlers gave him a car and cash and told him “Go anywhere you want.” So he did, and found cars, private homes, fully stocked supermarkets, and consumer goods everywhere. He was shocked and a amazed, as it was beyond his imagination as a Soviet citizen.

If it weren’t for LI and some of the other more conservative websites most of us would never know what cnn is saying or doing. I simply cannot imagine anything less interesting or entertaining than cnn but I appreciate the work the Prof goes to, to show us what’s out there.

The “news” media is completely corrupt. Ignore them.

The “news” media is completely corrupt.

Boycott their broadcasts, their publications, their documentaries, their movies, their television shows, etc.

Starve them as you would the GOPe.

Death before dishonor…..no wait, that’s not the ethos of CNN. I got confused and I haven’t fallen on my head since I stopped drinking yesterday.

Thanks, Mark. “Lord made the logical retort” is the funniest line I read today.

One more sign of the degraded state of political discourse in our country – an “educated” young woman in a prominent media role whose thinking is on the level of the functional illiterate welfare mom. She is reading her fantasy of Donald Trump into his words. She has no understanding of rhetoric. She makes no attempt to understand the point Trump is trying to make. People like this read into everything they hear their catalog of microaggressions to look for thought crimes on the part of deplorables.

Pure malarkey. I’ve seen numerous suggestions that anti-gun advocates disarm their security. Do libs ever actually hear themselves when they open their cakeholes and spew?

how many things has Clinton gotten away with the ordinary citizen would be spending time in lock up already.
