Avengers writer Joss Whedon gathered a few of his celebrity friends to launch "Save the Day" as a way to encourage people to show up at the polls come Election Day. None of the actors specifically mention Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump, but it's hard not to see how the video is meant to encourage voting for anyone other than Hillary. https://twitter.com/joss/status/778570386833219585

Rasmea Odeh is the Palestinian terrorist group member convicted of the 1969 supermarket bombing in Jerusalem that killed two Hebrew University students, Edward Joffe and Leon Kanner. [caption id="attachment_106201" align="alignnone" width="600"]http://www.investigativeproject.org/4654/spinning-a-terrorist-into-a-victim-epilogue [Edward Joffe's Mother and Sister at funeral, Jerusalem 1969][/caption]Rasmea was released in a prisoner exchange in 1979 for an Israeli soldier captured in Lebanon. Rasmea eventually made her way to the U.S., where she lied on both her visa and naturalization applications, by falsely stating that she never was convicted of a crime or served time in prison. She told other lies as well, such as not disclosing the time she spent in Lebanon after release from Israeli prison, or that she was a military member of the terrorist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Rasmea became a U.S. citizen in 2004 on the basis of those lies.

Tuesday night Charlotte police shot and killed an African-American man later identified as Keith Lamont Scott. A woman claiming to be Scott's daughter says Scott was unarmed, reading a book when he was shot and killed. Officers say that story is false, that they recovered a handgun and there was no book to be found. Following the shooting, hundreds crowded into streets and freeways to protest police brutality, maintaining Scott was unarmed, equipped with nothing but a book.

Last Friday night a black man named Terence Crutcher was shot and killed by police officer Betty Shelby in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The case has already received a lot of attention as one of a line of recent incidents in which an unarmed black person was killed by police, and Tulsa Police Chief Chuck Jordan has called the video of the incident "very disturbing" and "very difficult to watch." It is quite early in this case, and experience has shown that what we know about it at this point is probably based on incomplete information mixed with at least a sprinkling of false information. So right now it's not possible to come to any firm conclusions about what happened and whether Officer Shelby will face any legal liability for Crutcher's death. Of course, that won't stop many people from having very firm opinions about it. With those caveats, here are some of the events and allegations so far:

Richard Haass is the quintessential member of the foreign policy establishment. Long-time President of the Council on Foreign Relations, Haass has served in Republican and Democrat administrations and advised candidates from both parties. In this election, he has been very critical of Donald Trump. So no taint of partisanship can be applied to the normally mild-mannered Haass' scathing comments on today's Morning Joe about President Obama's UN speech of yesterday. After calling the speech a "major disappointment," Haass unleashed the unkindest cut, saying of Obama's detached attitude to the crises of the day "this is not the faculty lounge." Ouch.

The fear of clowns is called Coulrophobia and it's quite common. What happened this week at Auburn University might seem like another classic case of campus hysteria, but there is apparently some real cause for concern. WKRG News reported recently that creepy clowns on social media issued threats and caused a lock down at two grade schools in Alabama. Here's a video report:

A new ad from the NRA reminds voters that Hillary wants to enact stricter gun control laws which could leave innocent people defenseless. They're also planning to run the ad in five key swing states. Politico reports:

Kneeling during the national anthem has taken the sports by storm since San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick began it during preseason to protest police treatment of black people. Other NFL players have done it along with high school football players. But Virginia Tech basketball coach Buzz Williams will not have that behavior in his house. Instead, he chose to show his players why we stand for the national anthem. We do it to honor the men and women who sacrificed so much so we can enjoy our freedom at home.

We have followed the problems at Oberlin College for years. Rather than revisiting everything, please scroll through our Oberlin Tag. The most recent incident involved Professor Joy Karega, who posted blatantly anti-Semitic conspiracy theories on Facebook, including linking the Rothschild family to a global conspiracy. Karega Rotshchild Image Karega also accused Israel of attacking Charlie Hebdo as part of a false flag operation and being the equivalent of ISIS.
