The "compromise" omnibus spending bill negotiated in Congress is a POS. As usual, Republicans in Congress got their asses handed to them in negotiations. It not only doesn't give Trump even the 55 miles of border fencing reported, it has numerous poison pill provisions in it undermining existing immigration lawsw. Read these threads for details.

Amazon announced today that it will not build a second headquarters in New York City. This is a political victory for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who opposed the deal, but that victory may be short-lived. Though the campus would not have been in her district, it would have been in Long Island City in a neighboring district. There would have been a large spillover effect of jobs and economic benefit in her own district.

Lawyer Michael Avenatti decided to give up financial control of his law firm after his former partner accused him of hiding millions of dollar in order "to avoid having to pay a $10 million judgement." From Fox News:
Jason Frank, a former partner at Eagan Avenatti, accused Avenatti in a court filing of spending extravagantly: $13,000 in rent for his Los Angeles apartment; a $3,640 payment on his Ferrari; $150,000 for his coffee company; $53,600 on his ex-wife; and $232,875 for his auto racing team, The Los Angeles Times reported.

Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) is not happy about Majority Leader McConnell's decision to bring the Green New Deal up for a vote. Markey co-authored the Green New Deal, which was introduced last week. Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez is the House sponsor of the "bill." Via his official Twitter account, Markey accused Republicans of "sabotaging" the "movement" he's working to build by rushing a vote on the legislation.
