December 2017

Another year of fabulous A.F. Branco cartoons is coming to an end. You can view a video of all Tony's 2017 cartoons here. A reader vote on the Best cartoon is becoming an annual event:

This is not one of those heavy year-end posts. You want a heavy year-end post, then re-read my post from last year, New Year's Thanks. Some quick observations, in no particular order:

As we bid adieu to another year, I find myself almost giddy with relief that Hillary Clinton is not in the White House.  Love him or hate him, President Trump is vastly superior in every conceivable way to Hillary.  If nothing else, he's made great headway in rolling back the horrific Obama presidency (as illustrated by the ever-brilliant A. F. Branco just this weekend). For once I won't waffle on; instead, let's get to the good stuff.

Protests have grown strong in Iran these past three days, reminiscent of the 2009 Green Movement, as people have grown tired of the ruling regime's oppression. From The Wall Street Journal:
Antigovernment demonstrations broke out for a third day across Iran on Saturday, extending some of the country’s most widespread street protests in nearly a decade, with protesters demanding an end to the Islamic Republic regime and the rule of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Video shot from inside Iran and shared with The Wall Street Journal suggest large rallies at dozens of cities across the country.

The data is in, and 2017's news cycle has been a veritable hurricane of #FakeNews, social justice drama, and progressive implosions! As I look back at the posts I prepared during the past 365 days, I have come to the conclusion that the media storm was scientifically predictable.

Judicial Watch has received via FOIA emails that the FBI found on the computer of disgraced former congressman and estranged husband of Hilary aide Huma Abedin.  That Huma forwarded classified emails to the laptop was previously reported, but now Judicial Watch obtained redacted copies of some of the emails, clearly marked classified. This could add to the pressure on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to order the FBI to reopen its investigation of Hillary's server and handling of classified information in light of recent revelations that the FBI investigation may have been predetermined and perfunctory.

It's official: as of 12:00 a.m. January 1, 2018, the U.S. military will be open to transgender recruits—a change in policy that had been set in motion by Former Defense Secretary Ashton Carter in 2016. Last night, the Department of Justice announced that it would not ask the Supreme Court to stay several injunctions requiring the military to go forward with Carter's plan—at least until a "study" that President Trump ordered is completed.
