August 2017

Frimet and Arnold Roth’s 15-year-old daughter Malki was murdered in the August 9, 2001 Hamas terror attack at a busy Sbarro's Pizzeria in the center of Jerusalem. Now they’re requesting the public’s help in their effort to bring Ahlam Ahmad Al-Tamimi, the mastermind of the heinous crime, to justice in a U.S. court of law. (Sign up form here.) As we noted in a recent post, the Jordanian government has refused to extradite Tamimi.

The mainstream media is at again: walking their well-worn propagandist path between fact and a fiction they hope seeps into public consciousness.  This time the target is Texas lawmakers who are requesting federal aid in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The intent is to paint Republican lawmakers as "hypocrites" because they voted against the hideously pork-laden Hurricane Sandy relief package, yet are now requesting federal aid. As a quick reminder, the Sandy aid package included taxpayer money earmarked for Alaska fisheries, Amtrak "expenses," new vehicles for assorted federal agencies, and a range of other pork projects completely unrelated to the hurricane.

If there was ever a more perfect synchronicity to the publication of a book and the news cycle, I would be hard pressed to think of one better than the release of Dinesh D'Souza's latest: The Big Lie - Exposing the Nazi Roots of the American Left. Germany's Adolph Hitler created the phrase, “the big lie,” to describe a lie so vast that “the great masses of the people” will fall for precisely because they can fathom that it isn't true. In The Big Lie, D’Souza shows that the Democratic Left has orchestrated a campaign to paint President Trump, Republicans, conservatives...essentially anyone who doesn't agree with them... as Nazis. This smear is used to cover up its own dirty brand of fascist tactics. The current spate of charges against President Donald Trump and his supporters is today's "Big Lie".

The horror movie genre has lost another great. First we lose George Romero. Now the Los Angeles County Coroner announced that Tobe Hooper is dead at the age of 74. They did not releases the cause of death. Hooper shot to fame with Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 1974. He followed that up with the TV movie Salem's Lot in 1979, based on the Stephen King novel, and Poltergeist in 1982.

Evan Siegfried is the sort of Republican MSNBC prefers as panelists: One who supported Hillary Clinton, and later Evan McMullin, and is happy to condemn President Trump. Appearing on today's AM Joy, Siegfried went beyond mere condemnation to predict Trump would stage an event to exploit politically. Discussing the Arpaio pardon, Siegfried said:

When the statues began being pulled down in the wake of the Charlottesville demonstration, many of us joked that films and songs featuring the Civil War would be next. The jokes have morphed into a chilling reality. The Orpheum Theater in Memphis has pulled the iconic American film Gone with the Wind from summer movie series after receiving complaints it was not racially sensitive.
The Orpheum Theatre Group decided not to include the 1939 movie about a plantation in the Civil War-era South in its 2018 Summer Movie Series after feedback from patrons following the last screening Aug. 11.

Because "Trump" was already taken....

Charlottesville is being exploited to justify some of the worst aspects of the leftist culture war. Internet censorship by left-leaning internet oligopolies based on demonization of political opposition as "hate" and "extremist" groups like the Southern Poverty Law Center is one aspect. But the culture war has moved with rapid speed to statues and monuments and names, and it's not stopping at the confederacy. Protesters are taking matters into their own hands and defacing or destroying statues, like this memorial to Christopher Columbus in Baltimore, the oldest such monument in the U.S.:

Last Sunday, Ohio Governor and former Republican presidential candidate John Kasich said that he does not have plans to run against President Donald Trump in 2020 and is "rooting for him to get it together." Less than a week later, reports have emerged that Kasich may team up with Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper in 2020 as independents with Kasich taking the top spot.

Legal Insurrection colleague Kemberlee Kaye noted that one would be hard pressed to name the dumbest thing to happen last week in the name of inclusivity and tolerance. However, I think it would be a safe bet that the actions of a California Catholic school would pose fierce competition for that title.
A California Catholic school is facing a backlash from parents after officials took down some religious statues -- including one of Mary and baby Jesus -- over concerns that they were “alienating” prospective students. The head of the San Domenico School in San Anselmo said parents of some prospective students who visited the campus – which was founded in 1850 and serves 671 students grades K-12 -- expressed concern about the religious figures, according to the Marin Independent Journal.
