The horrific series of crimes against a mentally disabled teenager and streamed live on Facebook has shocked and horrified many (but not all, apparently).   The four attackers who tortured and abused the teen appeared in court and were denied bail. The Chicago Tribune reports:
One day after a chilling live Facebook video made headlines, four suspects appeared in a packed Cook County courtroom Friday to face hate crime charges alleging they beat and tortured a mentally disabled teen in an attack that once again put the city's ugly violence problem on display.

Mary wrote yesterday about the shooting at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood international airport that killed five and wounded eight others.  Details are now being released about the shooter, Esteban Santiago, and it appears that he had a history of mental health problems and was under psychiatric care. The Broward County Sheriff's office has posted the following about the incident:
A lone gunman, Esteban Santiago, 26 (DOB 3/16/90), opened fire in the baggage claim area, killing five people and wounding eight others.

Germany's Angela Merkel announced in her New Year's address that Islamist terrorism is the biggest threat facing Germany. Considering that this would likely not be the case if it weren't for her own open door policy, this is a startling admission.  Merkel went on to berate anyone and everyone who does not share her worldview, and insisted that all Germany needs is more laws and improved security to protect her people from the terrorist element she has welcomed with open arms. Reuters reports:
Islamist terrorism is the biggest test facing Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Saturday in a New Year's address to the nation, and vowed to introduce laws that improve security after a deadly attack before Christmas in Berlin.

The long, bleak, frustrating Obama era is soon over, and I couldn't be more pleased or more hopeful for the new year.  With that said, I thought I would join Kemberlee and Leslie in sharing my favorite posts from the past year, so without including posts mentioned elsewhere or further ado . . .

Once President-elect Trump vowed to end the war on Christmas and stated that we're going to say "Merry Christmas" again, a nationwide silent cheer went up as Americans across the country felt the weight of the religious suppression that permeates and fuels political correctness lifted in a very real way. Americans who felt, almost physically felt, that iron wall lift are mostly Christians and people who identify as Republicans or conservatives.

After an entire summer of protests, Obama, Pelosi, and Reid were determined, in late 2009, to set the groundwork for shoving ObamaCare down the throat of every American (who never liked or wanted it  . . . and still don't). Remember those late 2009 special sessions in which Democrats planned to push through as much of the ObamaCare monstrosity as they could before the January, 2010 special election in Massachusetts?

As DNC chair Donna Brazile contradicts Obama on Russian hacking and John McCain asserts that Obama has no idea what to do about the serious problem of Russian hacking that could "undermine our democracy," Henry Kissinger offers some much-needed perspective. ABC News reports on Brazile undercutting Obama's public statements:
Democratic National Committee Chair Donna Brazile said Russian hackers persisted in trying to break into the organization's computers "daily, hourly" until after the election -- contradicting President Obama's assertion that the hacking stopped in September after he warned Russian President Vladimir Putin to "cut it out."
