Iran has defied the United Nations (UN) with a ballistic missile test in Semnan, located 140 miles east of Tehran. But the test violated UN resolution 2231, which states that the country cannot conduct these missile tests. Fox News reported:
The Khorramshahr medium-range ballistic missile flew 600 miles before exploding, in a failed test of a reentry vehicle, officials said. Iran defense minister Brigadier Gen. Hossein Dehqan said in September that Iran would start production of the missile.

European Union's Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini has issued a threat directed at U.S. President Donald Trump. Mogherini warned President Trump that he would "end up being in a prison" for his executive orders, one which temporarily halted the entry of Syrian refugees and another which seeks to begin the construction of a southern border wall, UK newspaper Express reports. Mogherini also lectured President Trump on European history and tradition, and on how Europeans celebrate "when walls are brought down and bridges are built." Italian politician Mogherini played a key role in negotiating the Iran Deal or the "worst deal ever negotiated" as President Trump pointed out. She began her political career with the youth wing of the Italian communist party and made it to the post of E.U.'s High Representative on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy as a member of the 'Party of European Socialists'.

Less than two weeks into retirement and President Obama is already joining in on post-Obama fun. In his first post-presidential announcement, Obama lauded protesters. “Citizens exercising their Constitutional right to assemble, organize and have their voices heard by their elected officials is exactly what we expect to see when American values are at stake," said Kevin Lewis, Obama spokesman.

The showdown over sanctuary city policies between California and the Trump administration continues to escalate. After President Trump signed an executive order reinforcing current immigration regulations, politicians in our state's government opted to counter that order by exploring ways to protect the non-citizens who are already here.
The cities and counties Trump is targeting have many tools to strike back. Among the most potent are high court decisions that have interpreted financial threats like the one Trump is now making as an unlawful intrusion on state’s rights.

President Trump is going to run into real trouble if he lets his White House staff pull end runs on the likes of General Mattis . . . Over the weekend, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski were given extraordinary access to President Trump and his foreign policy team. On today's Morning Joe, they gave their takeaways from their interview of the president and a number of his senior advisors. Scarborough painted a picture of White House staffers in a battle with the senior foreign policy team. Scarborough singled out Stephen Miller, saying "you've got a very young person in the White House on a power trip thinking that you can just write executive orders and tell all of your cabinet agencies to go to hell."

Donald Trump recently said that he would announce his Supreme Court pick on Thursday. But there are multiple reports today that the announcement may come as early as Monday. Moving up the pick would be viewed as a conversation changer after a media frenzy over the weekend regarding the visa and refugee Executive Order. The AP reports:

I always find it amusing when liberals accuse other liberals of being too soft, too apologetic, too willing to give in. In contrast, liberals portray Republicans, and particularly the dreaded Tea Party, as tough as nails, unapologetic, and unyielding. As they say in liberal land, that is not my "lived experience." And I should know.

California lawmakers have dived deeper in the pool of progressivism, apparently to swim away from the red states responsible for the election of Donald Trump as President. Between bitterly threatening to build our own satellites and clinging to sanctuary city policies, state lawmakers are now weighing a fun, new revision to state identification cards: A third gender option.

Yesterday, President Trump signed three new executive actions: reshuffling the Principals Committee of the National Security Council (NSC), restricting administration officials from lobbying, and calling for a comprehensive plan to defeat ISIS. The first memorandum removes the Director of National Intelligence (Dan Coats has yet to be confirmed, no hearing set) and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs (currently Marine Corps General Joseph Dunford) from and adds Steve Bannon to the NSC Principals Committee.

Message from MSNBC to you hicks out in the sticks: the people who gave us Le Pen, Brexit and now, Trump represent the "real problem." Unlike we city dwellers, you don't "mix" and "get along together" with people from "cosmopolitan cultures." That was the word from MSNBC contributor and Daily Beast Editor Christopher Dickey, speaking from Paris with Joy Reid today. Discussing the hold that President Trump has placed on immigration from seven named countries, Dickey began by claiming that people in Europe, especially in European governments, "think Trump has lost his mind." Then there was the obligatory Hitler allusion: in Europe "they remember what fascism was like. In the United States, we've been spared that—at least up until now."
