If you hadn't heard of them before Hurricane Harvey, you certainly have now -- the Cajun Navy as they call themselves, is a band of rugged Louisiana outdoorsman (and women) who load up their boats and caravan into flooded areas, performing rescues. They've been a tremendous asset in rescuing folks flooded out by Harvey in the Houston area, the Gold Triangle, and even down towards Port Aransas.

In a puzzling move, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced last month that the Department of Justice would be ramping up asset forfeiture. Mary wrote at the time:
Civil forfeiture remains a controversial issue in America since it’s “a process by which the government can take and sell your property without ever convicting, or even charging, you with a crime.” The procedures are civil, which means defendants do not receive the same protections given to criminal defendants. It’s one of the few issues that garners bipartisan support.
That bipartisan support is now even more evident as Congress moves to defund asset forfeiture.

NATO ally Turkey seems to be going out of its way to tweak German Chancellor Angela Merkel.  Last month, Turkey arrested, among others, a German citizen, and Merkel called the move "unacceptable." Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan appears to have been unimpressed because his government just arrested two more Germans.  Merkel has now declared that "decisive action" must be taken.  She does not specify what action she means, though she does threaten to "rethink" Germany's relations with Turkey.

If you've watched any of the footage of Antifa over the last year, one thing is clear. They're serious. They think their form of activism - if you could call it that - is serious, too. They have little to no sense of humor about themselves. With that in mind, it has been quite remarkable to watch them become an object of ridicule in venues which are known to be liberal.

My my, how the political pendulum has swung about the little darlings known as Antifa. Antifa, as we documented, are the continuation of a long line of Anarchist-Marxist street thugs originally known as Black Bloc, then Occupy, then in the age of the Resistance to Trump, were rebranded as "Anti-Fascist," hence, Antifa. The stripes changed, but not the violent tactics. Just as Democrats embraced Occupy, so too they embraced Antifa when Trump rallies were disrupted and Trump supporters beaten. "Punch a Nazi" became a popular slogan, with "Nazi" having an expansive definition to include all Trump supporters. We explored this Democratic love affair with Antifa in Democrats own Antifa, just like they owned Occupy.

It's been two years since Sen. Menendez was indicted on corruption charges and try as he might, he can't seem to get himself out of this mess. The Democratic Senator from New Jersey was investigated by Eric Holder’s Department of Justice and accused of using his federal office to help wealthy dentist and long-time friend and campaign donor, Dr. Salomon Melgen by attempting to sway policy that would be favorable to Melgen’s business. The pair were charged with 18 counts of bribery and fraud.

I live in Houston where we've just experienced the worst natural disaster in the city's long history. Harvey caused inestimable damage and left thousands without shelter and earthly possession. There is not one person in the Greater Houston Area, in Rockport, Port Aransas, or surrounding counties that hasn't been adversely affected by this storm. Naturally, the national media, like Politico are using Harvey as an opportunity to malign everything great about the Lone Star State. Essentially legitimizing criticism of coastal-centric political media -- they have no idea how real America works.
