Obama's decision to designate a large area of land in Utah as a national monument generated a small number of headlines last week. What many people don't realize is that this has been going on throughout Obama's presidency and that the amount of land and water he has claimed for the federal government is massive. MRCTV reports:

NBC/MSNBC continues to grab Fox News people. Former host Greta Van Susteren will join the network only a few days after Megyn Kelly announced her new shows and roles at NBC:
"I'm thrilled to start my next chapter at MSNBC," Van Susteren said. "The network is the right destination for the smart news and analysis I hope to deliver every day, and I look forward to joining the talented journalists and analysts I respect there."

The U.S. House of Representatives overwhelmingly approves House Resolution 11 (full embed at bottom) which criticizes not only anti-Israel UN Security Council Resolution 2334, but also the U.S. abstention. It was the criticism of the abstention that split Democrats, with several speakers claiming Republicans were politicizing support for Israel in Congress. Several speakers claimed the Resolution was a swipe at Obama as he was leaving office. Potential DNC Chair Keith Ellison voted No.

Plastic bag bans are all the rage in progressive locals like Austin and Portland, and the entire state of California, but Michigan is having none of it. Lt. Gov. Brian Calley recently signed a bill that banned plastic bag bans, along with any local ordinance that would restrict the use of certain types of disposable containers and packaging.

Last night we reported the breaking story of a horrific live-streamed video of four black teens in Chicago torturing a white special needs youth while taunting him, Black Chicago teens torture special-needs boy, yell “F*** Donald Trump! F*** white people!” Today more horrible details were revealed by police, including the existence of a second video showing the perps forcing the victim to drink from the toilet. CBS Chicago reports:
A day after Chicago police said they were questioning four people about a “sickening” video showing the torture of a mentally disabled teen, a second video has surfaced showing the suspects forcing the young man to drink out of a toilet....

As soon as Yahoo's Bianna Golodryga said she didn't want to "turn political," you knew that was precisely what she was about to do. But when Golodryga proceeded to criticize the Texas open-carry law this morning, you might be surprised that it was Meredith Vieira who—excuse the expression—shot her down. Vieira was a guest on Morning Joe to discuss a documentary, for which she served as executive producer, about the University of Texas Tower shootings in 1966, in which Charles Whitman shot 49 people, killing 16. The gun-control shoe was bound to drop, and after her "not to turn political," Golodryga launched into a criticism of the new Texas open-carry law, fretting that it could prevent UT from attracting "students and the top talent in teaching for fear of this law." Retorted Vieira: "It's interesting. On that day, the students were allowed to carry on campus and the police relied on them. One of the police -- they didn't have SWAT teams back then and they didn't have the equipment either to get to somebody who was up in the tower. So they were asking students: does anybody have a shotgun? The police themselves didn't have shotguns. And the students helped them."

A Texas grandmother named Rebbie Roberson was minding her business in her own home Sunday night when an uninvited intruder appeared. Luckily for Roberson, she was armed and ready. CNN reports:
Pistol-packing grandma turns tables on armed intruder Rebbie Roberson wasn't having it. A man wearing a mask and gloves was standing in her house after he broke in Sunday night. "When I started to get up, he was in here on me with a gun facing me right to my face," she told CNN affiliate KSLA.

NFL analyst and former Washington Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann tore into the San Francisco 49ers after the team gave quarterback Colin Kaepernick the Len Eshmont Award. The team chooses the player "49er who best exemplifies the inspirational and courageous play of Len Eshmont, an original member of the 1946 49ers team." This 49ers team did not perform well at all:
“This award doesn’t mean anything to me,” said Theismann, who led the Washington Redskins to two Super Bowl appearances, winning one, in the 1980s. “Inspired and courageous? You’re 2-14. What did he inspire? You’re [1-10] as a quarterback [this season]. What [did] you possibly inspire?”
But it goes deeper than that since Kaepernick started a trend of kneeling during the national anthem.

Tucker Carlson had a strong showing in our Reader Poll of who should replace Megyn Kelly at Fox News, now that she is moving to NBC. His performance replacing Greta at the 7 p.m. slot made him a hit among conservatives. We covered many of his take-downs, the most epic of which Kurt Eichenwald.

California has a massive housing crisis, pension troubles, and an escalating crime rates. So, what do the state's leaders decide to do? Hire one of the most controversial figures in the Obama Administration to engage in legal battles against the Trump Administration.
Bracing for an adversarial relationship with President-elect Donald Trump , the California Legislature has selected former U.S. Atty. Gen. Eric H. Holder Jr. to serve as outside counsel to advise the state’s legal strategy against the incoming administration. The unusual arrangement will give Holder, leading a team of attorneys from the firm Covington & Burling, a broad portfolio covering potential conflicts between California and the federal government. Former Los Angeles Rep. Howard Berman, a Democrat who is now a senior advisor to the firm, will also be part of the effort.
