A Texas grandmother named Rebbie Roberson was minding her business in her own home Sunday night when an uninvited intruder appeared. Luckily for Roberson, she was armed and ready.
Pistol-packing grandma turns tables on armed intruder
Rebbie Roberson wasn’t having it.
A man wearing a mask and gloves was standing in her house after he broke in Sunday night.
“When I started to get up, he was in here on me with a gun facing me right to my face,” she told CNN affiliate KSLA.
But the 74-year-old grandmother from Bowie County, Texas, had something for him.
“I reached over there (a nearby table) and grabbed this gun. And when I swerved around, I pointed it at him and he ran.”
As the intruder hightailed it out of her house, Roberson gave chase, firing her .38-caliber revolver at the fleeing man.
“I tried to kill him,” she said. “Anybody break in on me, I’m going to kill them. He’s going to kill me or I’m going to kill him.”
Authorities don’t know if Roberson hit the man, but they are searching for him. And Roberson won’t be in trouble with the law.
“Every citizen, according to the Texas penal code, has the right to defend themselves and their family,” Bowie County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Jeff Neal told KSLA.
It was the first time — and she hopes the last — that Roberson ever had to use her weapon.
Here’s a video report from ABC News:
This is the feel-good story of the day.
Imagine what a different outcome this story could have had if Ms. Roberson was not armed. When she finally noticed the intruder, she was practically face-to-face with him. There wouldn’t have been any time to call the police.
