While I am not a fan of football, unlike Meryl Steep, I can respect those who love the game. So, when it came to voting whether to approve a tax hike to fund a new stadium for the San Diego Chargers last November, I asked the San Diego team of independent conservative bloggers for their opinions. They all said, "No!". As W.C Varones noted, "I am so sick of the Chargers and the Padres holding up the taxpayers for subsidies and then fielding horrible teams."

Yesterday we pointed out the massive security being planned for Trump's inauguration. There's a very good reason for that. In addition to fears of terrorist actions, the radical left is planning a number of different actions for inauguration day. No one on the right tried to ruin Obama's inauguration but that favor will not be repaid. Reuters reports, via Yahoo News:
Protests will aim to disrupt Trump inauguration: organizers Thousands of demonstrators are expected to turn out in Washington next week for protests aiming to "shut down" the inauguration of Donald Trump as the next U.S. president, organizers said on Thursday.

UPDATE: As of approximately 7:30 p.m. on January 13, 2017, our YouTube Channel was restored, though there are still legal battles to come over the videos. ------------- YouTube took down Legal Insurrection's Channel without any prior notice based on "multiple third-party claims of copyright infringement," but we never received any claims of infringement. We have lost hundreds of videos, including a lot of original content on important news subjects. You now will see disabled videos in hundreds of our posts. I have no idea what the supposedly offending videos are. We are pretty careful when it comes to copyright, so I'm suspecting that someone about whom we posted a video made the claims. We've filed the appeal forms, but if anyone has a contact at YouTube, I'd appreciate the help. Please email me.

For several years we have been examining Gallup and Pew surveys of attitudes among Americans of the Israeli-Palestinian dispute. What we have seen is a trend of overall support for Israel reaching all-time or near-all-time highs. At the same time, there is a slice of the population in which the support has been slipping -- the left-wing of the Democratic Party. That makes sense based on a number of trends we post about unrelated to polling: The intensive global push, particularly on campuses, to demonize Israel; "intersectionality" theory which makes Israel the central antagonist in the racial and identity politics of the progressive movement; the identification of Israel with capitalism which increasingly itself is demonized among the socialist-friendly section of the Democratic Party that supported Bernie Sanders.

The Senate Armed Services Committee passed a waiver by a vote of 24-3 allowing Gen. James Mattis to serve as President-elect Donald Trump's Secretary of Defense. Becuase he retired from the Marine Corps in 2013, he needed the waiver to bypass a rule stating an individual must be out of the service for seven years before serving a new appointment. Only Democrats Kirsten Gillibrand, Richard Blumenthal, and Elizabeth Warren voted against the waiver. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said the committee should pass the legislation "because the U.S. is at war and the Trump administration needs Mattis as quickly as possible."

The process of repealing President Obama's signature legislation is already underway. Early Thursday morning, the Senate passed what they're calling a "repeal resolution" or the first step in repealing the Affordable Care Act. The vote fell perfectly along party lines:
The Senate voted 51-48 along party lines for the measure, which relies on the same budget process used seven years ago to approve the landmark healthcare law to now attempt to dismantle it.

Hillary's email problems aren't going away just because the election is over. A watchdog within the Department of Justice announced Thursday it would be reviewing Director Comey's investigation into Hillary's use of a private email account and a homebrewed server during her tenure as Secretary of State. The DOJ's Inspector General Michael Horowitz indicated numerous "Chairmen and Ranking Members of Congressional oversight committees, various organizations, and members of the public" requested the review.

Cory Booker's shameless gambit of launching his presidential bid by attacking Jeff Sessions has really gotten under this Insurrectionist's skin. From my Quick Hit of this morning: "I reckon he earned the scorn of many of his fellow Dems for his transparent ploy." And so it was gratifying to get confirmation this morning from Joe Scarborough, who on Morning Joe said this of Booker's stunt: "obviously calculated . . . in a way that would have the other senators, especially Democratic senators, wanting to drag him away . . .  a lot of senators irked, especially on the Democratic side. They thought he was launching his bid for the 2020 campaign."

What should comes as a warning to America, Germany is losing control of its streets thanks to Chancellor Angela Merkel's policy of uncontrolled migration. Details have emerged of coordinated sexual assaults in Berlin, bringing back the memories of last year's mass sexual assaults in the city of Cologne. Berlin Police initially downplayed the crimes, speaking of just 6 isolated cases. With just eight months to go for German elections, Merkel's government does not want negative press around its "Refugee Welcome" policy. Sexual attacks by migrants gangs took place just two weeks following the Berlin Christmas market attack by a Tunisian "refugee" that killed 12 people and injured 50 others. On Wednesday, Berlin police revealed the details of sexual attacks carried out by migrant gangs on New Year's Eve, with 23 cases of reported sexual assaults around Berlin's landmark Brandenburg Gate. Police confirmed detaining suspects of Pakistani and Iranian descent.

Former presidential candidate and retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, President-elect Donald Trump's pick for Housing and Urban Development Secretary, will have his confirmation hearing today at 10AM ET in front of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. Carson turned down Trump's request to leads the Human and Health Services, but accepted the HUD nomination. He often fought with Trump in the primary and even said he would never work in Trump's administration. Trump chose Carson for "his 'brilliant mind' and passion about 'strengthening communities and families within those communities.'" Carson has said:
"I grew up in the inner city and have spent a lot of time there, and have dealt with a lot of patients from that area and recognize that we cannot have a strong nation if we have weak inner cities," he said.

  The pattern of leftist thugs trying to take down a company or person over support for or even affiliation with a cause they don't like is repeating itself, this time at L.L. Bean, the famed Maine-based company. Boston Magazine reports:
Trump opponents are waging a campaign to boycott L.L. Bean after it came to light that a member of the family that runs the business, Linda Bean, donated a healthy sum of $60,000 to a Trump-supporting super PAC. A group called Grab Your Wallet, which maintains a list of companies to avoid due to ties to Trump, called for a boycott, and now leadership at the company is taking those threats seriously, urging people not to let politics influence their opinions of a 100-year-old brand.

Meow. Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) came out with the claws during the hearing for former ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson, President-elect Donald Trump's choice for secretary of state. Rubio started by asking Tillerson if he considers Russian President Vladimir Putin a war criminal. Tillerson, who ran a company that had many deals with Russian STATE OWNED companies, refused to take the bait:
"I would not use that term," Mr. Tillerson said.
