New York University Professor Michael Rectenwald was suspended two weeks ago for a Twitter account he ran which repudiated political correctness. Legal Insurrection readers know that's a form of heresy on college campuses today. He has now been reinstated and with a raise in pay. FOX News reports:
NYU brings back professor who blasted PC culture, gives him a raise Liberal studies professor Michael Rectenwald, the man behind the controversial @DeplorableNYUProf account, has been promoted by prestigious New York University and given a raise days after the university had put him on a paid leave for criticizing politically correct culture on campus.

Providence College is a Catholic school and for many years had a reputation for being a conservative institution. All that has changed under onslaught from Social Justice Warriors. When Literature professor Anthony Esolen recently wrote some op-eds questioning the way racial segmentation through diversity initiatives were implemented, and how it was undermining the unity of the church, he became the object of the progressive left's two minutes of hate. This is a free speech issue to be sure, but it's about other things as well. Leftists on college campuses know they have power and they're always pushing to see how far they can go with it. Campus Reform reports:
PC faculty try to get conservative colleague fired for opinions Students and faculty at a Catholic college are up in arms over a professor suggesting that Catholic unity is more important than cultural diversity. In a September op-ed for Crisis Magazine, a Catholic publication, Literature professor Anthony Esolen argues that society’s increasing focus on the secular culture of ethnicity undermines unity within the Church.

The newest frontier in political correctness on college campuses is the destruction of Halloween. Certain costumes have been deemed a form of cultural appropriation, offensive to others' sensibilities, and are therefore not tolerated. When a Yale professor suggested students chill out about Halloween costumes, she and her husband were verbally abused and driven from campus. In the past, choosing the wrong costume would do little more than make you unpopular with social justice warriors but at Tufts University, it could earn you a disciplinary investigation, including possible involvement of campus police. That fear is contained in a letter the fraternity and sorority leadership at Tufts recently circulated.

The internet moves from object of hate, to object of hate. Perhaps a prime example was Justine Sacco, who after tweeting an ambiguous, clearly satirical message about AIDS that some people interpreted as racist, found herself the subject of an internet hunt -- all while she was on an airplane to Africa. By the time she landed, she had been fired from her job, and people tracked her airplane and confronted her at the airport when she landed. The writer for Gawker who started the whole thing apologized years later. Certainly there have been many other such examples, but the Sacco incident stands out. I don't know if it will reach Sacco proportions, but there is an internet "outrage" gaining momentum against a guy in Barrington, RI, who wrote a letter to the editor of the local newspaper complaining about older women who wear yoga pants:

I mostly missed the Ken Bone phenomenon. I either wasn't watching or wasn't listening when he asked a question at the last presidential debate. He then became a media darling, though I'm not really sure why. Something to do with his red sweater, apparently. And the fact that after the debate he said he started off leaning towards Trump, but was impressed with and considering Hillary. It was a perfect pro-Clinton media meme, common guy journalists otherwise would mock becomes cool because he moves from Trump to Hillary; a good example for the common folk to hear about. Bone then sought to cash in, selling a version of his red sweater and doing other stuff to make a buck and promote himself.
