2020 Democratic presidential candidate former Vice President Joe Biden visited Iowa over the weekend along with several other Democratic candidates stumping for votes just days ahead of tonight's Democratic debate. As expected, a hot topic of discussion was the Democrats' impeachment inquiry and President Trump's allegations that Biden engaged in quid pro quo by way of using his position as vice president in 2016 and a billion dollars in U.S. loan guarantees to have the Ukrainian prosecutor fired for investigating Burisma Holdings. Biden's son Hunter sat on the Burisma board member at the time.

The Second Circuit Court of Appeals put on hold a subpoena issued by a federal that demanded President Donald Trump turn over his tax returns. Earlier on Monday, U.S. District Court Judge Victor Marrero of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York gave the Manhattan District Attorney's office to subpoena the returns from Mazars USA, an accounting firm.

One thing we can safely conclude at this point is that the current impeachment push is not about the content of Trump's phone conversation with Ukraine's president Zelensky or the "whistleblower" report, although the Democrats and NeverTrumpers will probably continue to pretend it is, at least for a while.

Acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire testified before the House Intelligence Committee on Thursday morning. He answered questions to the best of his ability over the whistleblower report on the phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The House committee released the whistleblower's unclassified report this morning.

The Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel determined that the whistleblower on the phone call with President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky did not present an "urgent concern" nor do officials have to hand over the account to Congress. The intelligence community inspector general also discovered the whistleblower "showed indications of 'political bias' and was 'in favor of a rival candidate'" of Trump's. Despite that conclusion, the House and Senate have the whistleblower's account.

President Donald Trump released the transcript of his phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that took place on July 25 from 9:03 AM to 9:33 AM. It shows that he asked Zelensky for a review on Vice President Joe Biden's family dealings in Ukraine. However, Trump did not threaten to withhold "military aid as part of a quid-pro-quo, as Democrats have suggested in pressing forward with impeachment."

Whether you love or hate President Donald Trump, you have to acknowledge his actions on criminal justice reforms. You can say the same about Kim Kardashian West. West, who endorsed Hillary Clinton, went on The View this morning. She not only talked about her activist work in criminal justice reform but also praised Trump for signing the First Step Act.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) confirmed the committee has launched "formal impeachment proceedings" against President Donald Trump even without Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's blessing. From Fox News:
“This is formal impeachment proceedings,” Nadler said. “We are investigating all the evidence, we’re gathering the evidence and we will at the conclusion of this, hopefully by the end of the year, vote to, vote articles of impeachment to the House floor or we won’t. That’s a decision that we’ll have to make. But that -- that’s exactly the process we’re in right now.”

A senior adviser for MoveOn.org named Karine Jean-Pierre warned that President Donald  Trump's presidency could lead to a civil war during an appearance on MSNBC's Morning Joe on Monday. Is this an example of the incitement of violence the left loves to lecture about to the public?

It's not a copout to say, "it depends on what you mean by 3-D chess." If you mean something so advanced and esoteric it's the equivalent of Einstein's Special Theory (in the political sense), I'd have to say "no." But I don't think that's what it means. I find playing 3-D chess means having a good grasp of strategy and advanced gamesmanship while working on several levels at once.

United Kingdom Ambassador to the United States Kim Darroch resigned on Monday after a war of words with President Donald Trump over remarks in leaked cables. These cables showed Darroch describing Trump's administration as "diplomatically clumsy and inept" while he believed it would not become "substantially more normal." Trump returned fire by saying his administration "will no longer deal" with the ambassador.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed a law on Monday morning that allows Congress to access President Donald Trump's state tax returns. From The New York Times:
The bill requires state tax officials to release the president’s state returns for any “specified and legitimate legislative purpose” on the request of the chair of one of three congressional committees: the House Ways and Means Committee, the Senate Finance Committee and the Joint Committee on Taxation.
