I am an Environmental Health and Safety Professional, as well as a science/technical writer for a variety of news and professional publications. I have been a citizen activist since 2009, and am one of the co-founders of the San Diego-based group, Southern California Tax Revolt Coalition.

It has now been been 8 months since the famous purveyor of caffeinated confection, Starbucks, declared their bathrooms “open to the public” without the need to purchase their products.

When I reported that 150 "caravan migrants" attempted to storm the border near San Diego on Christmas Eve, I noted that a second caravan had been formed in Honduras. It appears that the next band of border busters is poised to enter Mexico.
Mexican authorities will meet with Central American officials to prepare for the arrival of a planned new caravan of migrants headed to the United States next week.

The last time I mentioned Egypt, archeologists had uncovered the hidden tomb of an Egyptian royal priest that had been untouched for around 4,400 years. Since then, there have been further fascinating developments related to the land of the Nile. To start with, Cairo officials tried to prevent the airing of a CBS interview in which Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi spoke of his country’s close co-operation with Israel in fighting ISIS militants.

The last time reported on celebrity astrophysicist and author Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, he was opining about a Truth Force . . . "one that defends against all enemies of accurate information, both foreign & domestic." Now, the scientist is being visited by a special type of "truth force," as investigators look into several allegations that he sexually abused colleagues and associates. Additionally, work on his show has been halted in the wake of this news.

This year's flu season is shifting into a fever pitch, as the disease spreads through the nation. It is the H1N1 strain, which is the same one as the infamous Spanish Flu that struck a century ago. However, today's version isn't nearly as potent.

California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom will officially become governor on Jan. 7th. On his way out of office, our current governor is leaving in his trademark "Moonbeam" style. For openers, Jerry Brown blamed rural Californians for not wanting higher taxes to help fight climate change.
Chuck Todd, host of MSNBC’s "Meet the Press," asked about how California’s new gas tax hurts rural residents who need cars because they don’t have access to public transportation. He cited an article from CityLab, which said the gas tax "punishes people for not having access to transit options," but Brown bowled right over Todd’s research and blamed rural Californians for not being on board with his agenda.
