The progressive push for higher minimum wage laws has had perfectly predictable results: lower-income people are most harmed, businesses switch to robots, businesses shutter, or as in the case of west coast Restaurants Unlimited, Inc., they simply file for bankruptcy. The chain closed six restaurants prior to filing.

In response to the news that there were going to be ICE raids and deportations of illegal aliens who have already been issued deportation orders, leftists in Colorado chose a uniquely infuriating way to protest the move. They illegally entered federal property, took down the American flag, defaced it, raised it (upside down), and raised a Mexican flag at the same height as the defaced, union-down American flag.  They also raised some sort of anti-police/Blue Lives Matter flag in place of the Colorado state flag.

If you happened to miss the first round of Democrat debates (and who could blame you?), you may not have heard what 2020 Democrat contender Marianne Williamson had to say. She wants to defeat Trump, she intoned, with love. She also said that her first move if elected will be to call the Prime Minister of New Zealand to tell her America is going to be the best place to raise children. I kid you not.

On Saturday, independent journalist and Quillette editor Andy Ngo was brutally attacked by an antifa-fascist mob in Portland, Oregon.  Since then, reaction has been mixed, with leftists actually expressing delight over Ngo being assaulted in broad daylight on a crowded city street and conservatives expressing outrage and demanding that people be held accountable.

The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a $4.6 billion emergency spending bill to address the border crisis.  Approval was achieved only after explicit wording was included that prevents diverting any of the monies to the building of the wall.  The bill will move to the Senate next week for a vote.

Back in February, I wrote about two transgender sprinters who placed first and second in the Girls Indoor Track Championship held in Connecticut.  As I noted at the time, the same two transgender athletes had won the top spots the year before, as well. Three of the girls who competed in the track championship have now filed a federal discrimination complaint against a statewide policy on transgender athletes.

Newly-elected Denver city councilwoman Candi CdeBaca (D-CO) is making waves with her comments about our being in "late phase capitalism" and her strong belief in the "community ownership of land, labor, resources, and distribution of those resources."  She's so fervent in her belief that she goes on to say "I’m excited to usher it in by any means necessary."

For the past week or so we've been treated to a breathless media elated that Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is "surging" in her bid for the 2020 Democrat nomination for president. The problem? Her "surge" seems to be directly related to the cratering campaign of socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
