Pretty much since the 2016 election we've been tracking the potential Donald Trump has to fundamentally alter the federal judiciary. At various times we've expressed frustration with the ability of Democrats to slow down the Senate confirmation process. We've also recognized that for the most part Judiciary Chair Chuck Grassley and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have kept nominees moving through the pipeline.

California has an odd primary known as "top-two primary system," which means that "the two candidates who get the most votes move on to the November vote regardless of party." This could cause a major headache for the state, which is why the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is pouring money into key districts in southern California to take advantage of the retirement of two representatives and a Hillary Clinton win in 2016.

The splashy headlines in the MSM all talk about how the House Freedom Caucus killed the farm bill in the House today since those members demanded the lawmakers vote on immigration legislation first. But it's a good thing this bill died because of the non-sexy components the MSM won't touch. The lawmakers filled the bill with so much pork that it'd shock anyone that agriculture was the main subject.

In Santa Fe, Texas, just southeast of Houston, a community is mourning the loss of 10 innocent lives (at the latest count). At least one gunman opened fire at Sante Fe High School. Two teenage men have been detained:

Jonathan Oddi, 42, was taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds to his legs after a shootout with Miami-Dade police at a Trump-owned golf course. Oddi snuck into the resort through a back entrance sometime around 1:30 AM ET, carrying with him an American flag he lifted from the back of the complex.

The European Union's deal with Turkey is failing to stop migrants from crossing into Europe, German media reports suggest. "The number of refugees coming into Europe through Turkey has risen sharply," writes the German weekly Der Spiegel citing EU officials. In the early months of 2018 over 15,000 migrant crossed over from Turkey into Greece--a "nine-fold increase compared to last year's figures," Austrian newspaper Heute reported.

South Carolina NAACP President Rev. Jerrod Moultrie made up one heckuva tall tale in April alleging he was racially profiled and harassed during a routine traffic stop. In a since-deleted Facebook post, Moultrie wrote about his encounter making himself out to be a tough guy and victim of a mean and racist cop who was convinced Moultrie had drugs.

Eric Barga arrived at Covenant Presbyterian Church about a half hour early for bell choir practice. April 5 was “one of the first nice days,” Barga remembers, so he sat on the trunk of his car and began killing time by playing scales. Less than ten minutes later, two law enforcement units rolled up, having received a report of a man with a long rifle.

President Donald Trump hosted another roundtable with citizens this week. This one focused on California's contemptible "Sanctuary State" polices, and he praised several California political leaders for fighting against Sacramento rules.
City and county officials from across the state who oppose California's sanctuary-state law sat down with President Donald Trump Wednesday to voice their objections to the law, and they got a pep talk from the president who slammed the state for failing to crack down on illegal immigration.

Pennsylvania's newly formed 1st Congressional District is a classic "swing" district, and is rated a toss-up by Cook Political Report. Scott Wallace just won the Democrat nomination, and will run against Republican Brian Fitzpatrick, currently the Rep in the soon-to-be phased out 8th District. Here's the new judicially-ordered congressional map for Pennsylvania:
