A student from Evergreen State College named Kai-Ave Douvia is of Native American and Puerto Rican descent. He's also a progressive, yet he became the target of fellow students at Evergreen before the protests began this spring. On Joy Reid's MSNBC show today, analyst Malcolm Nance floated a scenario in which President Trump decided to use a nuclear weapon to stop the North Korean missile-testing program. Reid asked whether Kelly would be "the guy who's going to say, 'yes, sir, or the guy who's going to say, 'don't do it?'" Replied Nance:

"He may have to be the guy that tackles him."

We’ve written before about convicted Palestinian terrorist Rasmea Odeh, a military member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) who murdered two university students, Edward Joffe and Leon Kanner, in 1969 when she put a bomb in a Jerusalem supermarket. She also unsuccessfully tried to bomb the British Consulate. Odeh's complicity in the bombings has been documented thoroughly, including in recent video interviews with her two Palestinian co-conspirators, who now live in areas controlled by the Palestinian Authority. Odeh was sentenced to life in prison, but spent 10 years in prison. She was released in a prisoner exchange in 1979 for an Israeli soldier captured in Lebanon, eventually making her way to the U.S. where she became a citizen.

I mentioned the other day how a friend, who is a lifelong Democrat and always has been very anti-Trump, expressed complete disgust at the media, particularly the handling of Russia, Media overplaying its anti-Trump hand – statistics and an anecdote about a lifelong Democrat:
The conversation was with someone I’ve known for almost 20 years. He’s a lifelong Rhode Islander and Democrat who has expressed strong hostility to me toward Trump in the past. We speak every couple of months, and I’ve never heard him say a good word about Trump....

As expected, the news has come of the death of Charlie Gard. This sad and troubling case has drawn worldwide discussion, and questions and concerns have been raised about what might happen in a similar case here. Some analogies have been made to the well-known US case of Terry Schiavo, but there were very important differences in the fact situation there that makes Schiavo a poor analogy. That case involved a battle between the husband and parents of the adult Schiavo over what her expressed wishes about end-of-life care had been. In contrast, Charlie Gard is an infant, and his case pitted his parents' wishes against the opinions of the hospital and doctors.

Cook County Circuit Judge Daniel Kubasiak dismissed a challenge to the county's beverage tax as unconstitutional, which means the tax will go into effect on Wednesday. From The Chicago Tribune:
In the immediate aftermath of Friday's ruling, retailers and beverage industry groups lamented the setback, while health groups and county officials cheered. Cook County Circuit Judge Daniel Kubasiak also dissolved the temporary restraining order that had halted implementation of the tax, which originally had been set to take effect July 1 and applies to both sugar- and artificially sweetened drinks.

In yet another example of the anti-Trump contingent creating and spreading misleading stories about President Trump, J. K. Rowling has gone on a Twitter tirade about a video that shows Trump supposedly ignoring a child in a wheelchair. What the now-viral video fails to show is that at the beginning of this event, Trump entered the room and as he moved toward the podium, he stopped specifically to speak to and to shake hands with the little boy in question.

A 26-year-old "Palestinian" refugee entered a supermarket in Hamburg, Germany and stabbed one man to death while shouting "Allahu Akbar."  As he attempted to flee the scene, he stabbed several other persons.  The exact number is not yet clear and reports range from three to six people wounded. Fox News reports:
A knife-wielding man reportedly screamed "Allahu Akbar" during a wild attack inside a Hamburg supermarket that killed at least one person and left four others bloodied and wounded on Friday. German police arrested the suspected attacker in the Barmbek district after witnesses followed the man and alerted authorities. The suspect was overwhelmed by passers-by and slightly injured in the process, police said.

Democratic New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has asked the private sector to help foot the bill to fix the subway in New York City. From New York Daily News:
"We have to change our attitude. This is our MTA [Metropolitan Transportation Authority], right? This is our transit system," Cuomo told members of the Association for a Better New York as he stood beneath a jumbo screen that flashed the words “We must change our attitude: OUR MTA.”
