While President Trump was working to have the Muslim nations drive out terrorists and negotiating to have NATO nations pay-up for their defense, First Lady Melania Trump was dazzling the world with grace, class, and dignity. The First Lady has not yet moved into the White House, so seeing her in formal venues has been rare until now. However, if the past 9 days have been any indication, Americans will soon be under the spell of President Trump's beautiful wife.

Cornell Law School graduation was held this year at the campus sports arena used for basketball games. It was the first time that I can remember that the sports complex was used for that purpose, and the faculty met in the Class of 1944 room as we awaited the processional. If you want to watch, you can view it here.  And yes, I am in it, but you'll have to find me. After that, I'll show you my vacation pictures. While waiting, I saw this plaque on the wall:

The Palestinian terrorist prison hunger strike led by Marwan Barghouti, serving 5 life sentences for murder, is over. The hunger strike was launched through an Op-Ed by Barghouti in the NY Times on April 14, 2017. Barghouti was one of the leaders of the bloody Second Intifada, which killed over 1000 Israeli civilians. Barghouti was charged with dozens of murders, but the Israeli court applied exacting evidentiary standards, resulting in Barghouti escaping punishment for most of the murders for which he was charged.

With Europe in the grip of Jihadi terrorism and an ever-worsening migrant crisis, German Chancellor Angela Merkel wants to isolate Germany and take rest of the Europe with her. "The times in which we could completely depend on others are on the way out. I have experienced that in the last few days," Chancellor Merkel said at an election rally in the city of Munich. "We Europeans must really take our destiny in our own hands." Chancellor Merkel's defiant talk was "applauded by 2,000 listeners" present in a Munich beer tent, local media reported. "Merkel doesn't consider the U.S. a reliable partner anymore," wrote the German newspaper Die Welt.  Merkel "has no confidence in transatlantic relationship writes Munich's Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

A 35-year-old white male fatally stabbed two men and wounded another after they came to the assistance of two Muslim girls the suspect was verbally attacking.  These men, rightly being called "heroes," stepped in to attempt to quiet the raving suspect; two of them were fatally stabbed, the third was wounded. The Los Angeles Times reports:
35-year-old white supremacist with a criminal record has been arrested in connection with the stabbing deaths Friday of two men on a light-rail train in Portland, Ore., who intervened when he began to hurl anti-Muslim epithets at two women, one who was wearing a head scarf, police said. Jeremy Joseph Christian of North Portland was jailed early Saturday on charges of aggravated murder, attempted murder, intimidation in the second degree and felony possession of a restricted weapon. He is being held without bail, and could face additional charges, police said.
The murdered men were Taliesin Myrddin Namkai Meche and Rick Best, while the wounded man is identified as Micah Fletcher.

Last week, I reported that Immigration and Custom Enforcement officers had decapitated the brutal El Salvadoran gang MS13 in Southern California after they arrested more than 40 members using racketeering statutes. This week, they followed it up with a series of raids that brought in 188 illegal immigrants, most of whom were connected with crime in this region.

Egypt has launched an air assault on terror training camps in Libya, following the deadly bus attack that claimed the lives of over two dozen Coptic Christian men, women and children.
On Friday, Egyptian fighter jets struck eastern Libya just hours after a shooting that killed 29 and wounded 24 in the southern Egyptian province of Minya when masked militants boarded vehicles en route to a monastery and opened fire at close range. Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, the latest directed at Egypt's increasingly embattled Christian minority following two church bombings last month that killed more than 45, also claimed by the group.

The division in our country runs beyond politics and into mundane life chores like returning a shopping buggy to the store-provided receptacle. There are plenty reasons to leave a shopping cart in place once it's been emptied -- the weather's bad, small children, in a hurry, etc. but ardent cart returners find all such reasons to be less rational and more akin to excuses. So why doesn't everyone return their carts to the receptacle? And why is it largely socially acceptable to leave a cart in the middle of the parking lot?

President Donald Trump concluded his first trip abroad as Commander-in-Chief with a speech at the Sigonella Naval Air Station in Sicily before returning to Washington, D.C., saying that his the nine-day international tour was a home run.
“But we have been gone for close to nine days. This will be nine days. And I think we hit a home run no matter where we are,” Trump said in Italy. ...The president is heading back to Washington, D.C. following a trip to Saudi Arabia, Israel, Italy, and Belgium. After meeting with the Pope, Trump traveled to Brussels for a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit and concluded his trip in Sicily at the G7 summit.
