As I've blogged before, I hardly think that forfeiting decent paying jobs to machines is what the Raise the Wage! crowd had in mind when they began demanding a ridiculous $15 an hour to flip burgers. I blogged about this back in 2014:
This is all basic economics, really. As costs of labor increase, the added cost must be offset. In order to satisfy operating costs, produce a product consumers want to purchase, and still turn a profit, it’s perfectly reasonable for a company like McDonald’s to look for cost-cutting alternatives. As Forbes pointed out, the added pressure to increase wages only serves to expedite technological solutions.
Last year, Wendy's indicated they were experimenting with self-ordering kiosks.

Remember the middle-school retort when someone would promise to join in on something: "is that a promise, or a threat?" The line comes to mind upon viewing a video that Hillary Clinton put out this past Friday, aired by Morning Joe today. After urging Dems to stay focused on future elections, she declares "let resistance plus persistence" equal progress. Clinton concludes, "I'll be right there with you every step of the way." Hillary puts extra emphasis on those last words: every step of the way. Every step? This is a woman who is not going away. Hillary 2020, anyone?

A veterans group in Massachusetts is criticizing Elizabeth Warren and others for seeming to care more about illegal immigrants than vets. The group, Veterans Assisting Veterans, suggests that Warren's support for illegals is political theater and that vets are suffering as a result of neglect. Dan Atkinson reports at The Boston Herald:

Elizabeth Warren and other state Democrats for their support of illegal immigrants, calling it “selfish political theater” and demanding they put veterans’ services at the top of their list — or feel the heat.

On February 12, 2017, we reported on the next phase of the so-called Women's March, Women’s March calls for General Strike and Day Without A Women. In that post, we called attention to the fact that Rasmea Odeh was one of the organizers, along with other radicals like Angela Davis, via Algemeiner:
A convicted Palestinian terrorist was among the eight feminist activists who called earlier this week on American women to join a March 8 international strike — which organizers are calling a protest “against male violence and in defense of reproductive rights.” ….

Today is the 5th Anniversary of the death of Trayvon Martin, who was shot dead by George Zimmerman. I don't think any other website has covered the case as extensively as we have. We have hundreds of posts under the tags Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman and George Zimmerman trial. We covered the initial publicity, the pre-trial criminal proceedings, the trial itself, and the post-trial problems George Zimmerman experienced. Andrew Branca's live coverage of the trial was epic and widely credited, including by Don West, co-defense counsel for Zimmerman, Unexpected thanks to Legal Insurrection on 2nd Anniversary of Zimmerman Acquittal.

At the Republican National Convention last year, Ivanka Trump stated:  "As President, my father will change the labor laws that were put into place at a time when women were not a significant portion of the workforce, and he will focus on making quality childcare affordable and accessible for all." Apparently following up on this promise, Ivanka met with members of Congress last week in order to sell them on her unfunded $500 billion child care tax credit.

The last time we checked in with the head of the California State Senate, Kevin de León, he was explaining that half his family would be subject to President Trump's policy on the actual enforcement of immigration rules. He is now proposing outlandish, energy-based legislation. Despite the limitations set by both technology and reality, he has submitted a bill that demands California be powered by 100% renewable energy by 2045.
