After every mass shooting, even those clearly terror related, Obama and Democrats leap at the chance to push for anti-Second Amendment legislation that will disarm the innocent and the law-abiding. From calls for gun control "action" to executive orders to "a day of action" for gun control, we consistently hear about the need for strict gun control from the left.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz is having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week.  With the revelation of her involvement—as DNC chair—in scuttling the Bernie Sanders campaign, she has been ousted from her convention role, and Sanders is today iterating his call for her resignation. According to Fox News, a Democrat source said Wasserman Schultz has been "quarantined."

On the off chance that far-left Dem congressman Keith Ellison is on your holiday shopping list, we have the perfect gift suggestion: a good biography of George Wallace.  On today's This Week, Ellison claimed that Donald Trump was "the worst Republican nominee since George Wallace." Just one small problem, of course. As Republican Rep. Tom Cole pointed out, Wallace was a Democrat who sought the Dem presidential nomination [multiple times] and even addressed the Democratic National Convention [in 1972.] Ruh-roh!

This is one of the reasons Trump is getting so much support. Under this Democratic administration, the American people are lied to at every turn, as issues are constantly couched in progressive talking points. Every threat we face at home and abroad is explained away by climate change, income inequality, gender inequity and a constant reassurance that Islamic terror has nothing to do with Islam. In the latest instance, our Secretary of State tells us about a threat that rivals ISIS. The Washington Examiner reports:
Kerry: Refrigerator chemicals are just as bad as ISIS Air conditioners and refrigerators pose as big a threat to "life on the planet" as the threat of terrorism, Secretary of State John Kerry said Friday.

As expected, the number of Zika cases in steadily rising in the United States, and now it appears that hundreds of pregnant women in this country have been infected with the virus that has been traced to severe birth defects.
More than 400 pregnant women now have Zika in the US - up from 364 last week. Another three babies have also been diagnosed with the virus, bringing the total number of infected infants to seven, according to new data from the CDC. It comes amid fears that American mosquitoes may now be infected with Zika after a woman in Miami contracted the virus without traveling abroad.

The Clinton campaign suffered a serious blow on Friday when the Virginian Supreme Court struck down Gov. Terry McAuliffe's blanket reinstatement of voting rights for convicted felons who have served their time. (Opinion here) WaPo reported:
Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s decision to restore voting rights to more than 200,000 felons violates Virginia’s constitution, the state Supreme Court ruled Friday, dealing a major blow to the Democratic governor with implications for the November presidential race in the crucial swing state. In a 4-to-3 decision, the court ruled that McAuliffe overstepped his clemency powers by issuing a sweeping order in April restoring rights to all ex-offenders who are no longer incarcerated or on probation or parole.

The Turkish purge of academia, which has been ongoing long before the recent failed coup, has accelerated since the coup attempt. Over 1500 university Deans were dismissed, travel for faculty restricted, and faculty abroad ordered home. On Saturday, July 23, 2016, President Erdogan expanded the purge, as we reported earlier. The Christian Science Monitor further reports:
President Tayyip Erdogan tightened his grip on Turkey on Saturday, ordering the closure of thousands of private schools, charities and other institutions in his first decree since imposing a state of emergency after the failed military coup....

Kemberlee reported that leaked emails put out by Wikileaks suggested that DNC scuttled the Bernie Sanders campaign and were targeting his religion as part of their plans. Hillary probably wishes these email were the ones deleted, as they clearly show that instead of treating Sanders as serious candidate for the Democratic ticket, the DNC worked against him and his campaign to ensure Clinton received the nomination.
One email from DNC Deputy Communications Director Eric Walker to several DNC staffers cites two news articles showing Sanders leading in Rhode Island and the limited number of polling locations in the state: “If she outperforms this polling, the Bernie camp will go nuts and allege misconduct. They’ll probably complain regardless, actually.” Instead of treating Sanders with impartiality, the DNC exhibits resentful disdain toward him and the thousands of disenfranchised voters he could have brought into the party.

Authorities have discovered German-Iranian Ali Sonboly,18, had an obsession with mass shootings and researched them before he murdered nine people in Munich. The police said:
“With regard to the suspect we have to examine everything, but we don’t know yet what triggered the crime,” said Peter Beck, a police spokesman. According to investigators, materials were found in Mr Sonboly’s room indicating a fascination with mass shooting incidents. “There was material found in the apartment of the suspect that showed a particular interest in shooting sprees”, said Thomas de Maiziere, Germany’s interior minister.

There were many predictions of violent protests at the Republican National Convention, in light of a series of violent anti-Trump protests around the country. In Chicago, you will recall, protests organized by MoveOn.org and others caused Trump to cancel his appearance at a major university arena. As Jeremy Segal (aka Rebel Pundit) [Featured Image] and Andrew Marcus documented, the Chicago protests were led by anarchists, communists, and open borders protesters.

As Mary noted when she wrote about Erdogan's issuance of a three-month state of emergency, the purges have indeed continued and dramatically expanded beyond their initial scope: "What began as an effort to root out members of the military and security forces directly involved in the July 15 coup attempt has been extended to eliminate the Gulen movement’s influence from education, academia and the civil service." Reports are emerging that Turkey has moved forward with its plans to "purge" all purportedly Gulen-linked institutions and organizations. Bloomberg reports:
The Turkish government’s decision to shut down and seize the assets of organizations linked to the alleged mastermind of last week’s failed coup has come into force, and ministers continued to reassure foreign leaders and investors that the country isn’t backsliding on democracy and economic reforms.

This week while all eyes were on the Republican National Convention, the Attorney General of Massachusetts took it upon herself to enact a new form of gun control by redefining assault weapons. Townhall reported:
Mass AG Unilaterally Changes Gun Laws, Redefines Assault Weapon Definition With most of the media attention on the Republican National Convention (Melania Trump’s speech)—the Massachusetts Attorney General seems to have decided to unilaterally rewrite the state’s gun laws.

Just when you are ready to give up on California, there is a sign that some sanity still remains in Sacramento! In April, a 2-member California parole board authorized the release of former Manson Family killer Leslie Van Houten. The decision to go forward with this recommendation rested with Governor Jerry Brown, who was sent a petition signed by over 140,000 people to discourage his signature on the release when it arrived on his desk. This time, Brown made the good choice.
Gov. Jerry Brown denied parole Friday to Leslie Van Houten, who was convicted along with other members of Charles Manson's cult in the 1969 killings of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca.

A gaunt and scruffy Jon Stewart took over Colbert's Late Show Desk Thursday night. The retired Daily Show host compared Fox News host criticism of President Obama to some of those by Donald Trump. Those not thrilled with Trump leading the GOP ticket have complained he's far too much like the current president for their liking aaaaannnnd Stewart's mashup makes that argument hard to refute.
