Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has shut down over 130 media outlets as he continues his crackdown on a failed coup two weeks ago. Erdoğan believes Fethullah Gülen's followers orchestrated a coup that failed miserably. Now anyone he suspects supports the scholar will lose their job or be detained without any proof.

I have left the coverage of the prosecution of six police officers in the Freddie Gray case to Andrew Branca. He had almost 100 posts. As with the Geroge Zimmerman, Michael Dunn and other trials, Andrew did a superb job. From the start of the prosecutions in the Freddie Gray case, Andrew called BS on the charges. One of his early posts on May 1, 2015, was Freddie Gray Cops Charges – Justice or Political Theater?

Just last week, my husband (a licensed therapist) and I were discussing the pro-life cause and how the lasting mental health ramifications are criminally underreported. He explained that of the many issues women face, there is seldom any trauma he's encountered that rivals the aftermath of abortion. A new documentary, "Hush", explores what really happens to women, both physically and mentally post-abortion. "Women who have an abortion history are at a higher risk for substance use, for anxiety, for depression..." one of the film's participants explains. "This really has nothing to do with the morality of abortion, per se, it's the morality of telling the truth about it."

Due to recent terrorist attacks, German politicians have now asked Chancellor Angela Merkel to deport over 200,000 migrants who failed to gain asylum. Homeland expert Armin Schuster said:
In his appeal for a speeding up of deportations, Mr Schuster said: “Some could get the impression they could get away with anything because they don’t realise how mildly the state reacts to those breaking the law.”

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund has found that shooting deaths of law enforcement has risen to 78% in 2016 from 2015. The majority of those officers died in "ambush-style killings." The report runs from January to July 20 and compares the stats from the same time period last year, which means it includes the Dallas and Baton Rouge officer assassinations. Those killers stated they wanted to kill white cops due to recent killings of black people from cops. Another study showed, though, that police violence against citizens remains unbiased.

Few liberals are as iconic as the pugnacious progressive pundit Piers Morgan. The British journalist and television personality, once host of CNN's Piers Morgan Live, is currently working as the US Editor-at-Large for Mail Online. In that capacity, he has published an op-ed in response to the beheading of Father Jacques Hamel at the hands of Islamic terrorists that occurred during a Mass in a Normandy church.

This morning Maryland State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby dropped all criminal charges against the remaining "Freddie Gray" defendants, reports the Baltimore Sun. There were three trials remaining--de novo trials of Officer Garrett Miller (whose trial was scheduled to begin today) and Sergeant Alicia White, as well as a re-trial of Officer William Porter. Porter, the first officer to be tried in this series of prosecutions, had his trial end in a hung jury and was immediately scheduled for re-trial by prosecutors.

A judge has released John Hinckley, Jr., the man who attempted to assassinate President Ronald Reagan in an effort to impress actress Jodie Foster. He must live with his mother in Williamsburg, VA. U.S. District Judge Paul L. Friedman said the 61-year-old "no longer poses a danger to himself or others."

Couldn't Joe Scarborough have waited until after Barack Obama and Joe Biden gave their DNC speeches tonight before he began gushing over them? Apparently not. On today's Morning Joe, Scarborough, pre-lauding Obama's speech-to-be, said "you know when you're watching a great movie . . . and you can see where it's going, and you sort of start smiling?" But it wasn't just Obama's as yet unspoken speech that had Scarborough excited. "You look at that lineup: it's absolutely extraordinary," enthused Joe. In addition to Obama, tonight's line-up consists of Michael Bloomberg, Tim Kaine and Joe Biden. Yes, when it comes to oratory that will bring people to their feet, set their pulses racing and forever claim that they were there in the hall that night, there's nothing like Mike Bloomberg bragging about the day he banned the Big Gulp.

Anthony Weiner, the disgraced former New York Congressman and husband of Hillary confidante Huma Abedin, has (ahem) inserted himself into the debate over the 2016 election. Weiner has obvious reasons for backing Clinton which go beyond party affiliation and his wife's relationship to the Democratic nominee. If Hillary wins, Weiner will have access to the White House and a host of new career opportunities.

Uh-oh: looks like I've had something of a mind-meld with Rachel Maddow . . . During Bill Clinton's DNC speech tonight, I tweeted "the spectacle of Bill Clinton telling the romantic story of how he met, wooed and married Hillary is deeply creepy." When the speech ended, Rachel Maddow, on MSNBC, called the top of the speech "shocking and weird," describing the beginning of the speech as "controversial." Maddow was miffed that Clinton spoke of "a girl," "the girl" and built "her whole political story for the whole first half of the speech around her marriage to him."

A little levity to kick off your evening -- yesterday, the good folks of Bad Lip Reading released an abbreviated and hilarious rendition of Senator Cruz's controversial RNC speech. If you're not familiar with Bad Lip Reading, they dub over clips of all kinds (not just political) with nonsensical garble.

A Texas court has dropped the remaining charges against the pro-life activists who caught Planned Parenthood officials on tape selling baby parts. David Daleiden, 27, said:
"The dismissal of the bogus, politically motivated charges against [Center for Medical Progress] project lead David Daleiden and investigator Sandra Merritt is a resounding vindication of the First Amendment rights of all citizen journalists, and also a clear warning to any of Planned Parenthood's political cronies who would attack whistleblowers to protect Planned Parenthood from scrutiny," Daleiden said in a statement.

My old boss Andrew Breitbart said politics are downstream from culture. When celebrities say or do something, it is important to take notice. Popular metal band Disturbed received honors from the Mansfield Police Department in Massachusetts after they allowed them to use their cover of Sound of Silence in a video. All the band members expressed gratitude while vocalist David Draiman told the cops they have much respect for the cops and thanked them for everything they do:
"It is a crying shame what has happened in this country," he told the cops. "You guys give everything for us so it's the least we can do."
