Before I begin the review of Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama by David J. Garrow, I feel the need to make a confession in the interest of full disclosure. Barack Obama has been very inspirational to me personally. He inspired me to help co-found the SoCal Tax Revolt Coalition. He inspired be to become an independent conservative blogger. He inspired me to re-register as "No Party Preference" in my home state of California. So, why did I order this 7-pound book on Obama?

In March of this year, a mob of students at Middlebury College in Vermont stormed into a talk by sociologist Charles Murray. After shutting down the event, the mob chased chased down Murray and ultimately sent a professor who was assisting him to the emergency room. Since then, the school has claimed twice that students were being disciplined but refused to release details about any punishment. Now we know why. There wasn't any. Scott Jaschik reports at Inside Higher Ed:
No Suspensions Seen at Middlebury More than two months after Charles Murray visited Middlebury College and was shouted down there, the college has finished reviewing and in some cases punishing students who were involved in preventing him from giving his talk.

Lou Reed passed away in 2013. At least he's not here to witness one of his best songs become the newest thing campus snowflakes have deemed problematic. Students at the University of Guelph in Canada played "Walk on the Wild Side" at a campus event and were ultimately forced to apologize. Dave Huber reports at The College Fix:
Student group issues apology after playing Lou Reed’s ‘Walk on the Wild Side’ This is where we are: A student group at the University of Guelph in Canada has apologized for including the Lou Reed song “Walk on the Wild Side” on a playlist at a campus event. Because, don’t you know, the tune contains “transphobic lyrics.”
