There’s an effort to get me fired at Cornell for criticizing the Black Lives Matter Movement

There is an effort underway to get me fired at Cornell Law School, where I've worked since November 2007, or if not fired, at least denounced publicly by the school. Ever since I started Legal Insurrection in October 2008, it's been an awkward relationship given the overwhelmingly liberal faculty and atmosphere. Living as a conservative on a liberal campus is like being the mouse waiting for the cat to pounce.

Professor Gordon Klein teaches accounting at UCLA's Anderson School of Business. He recently refused to exempt black students from final exams over the death of George Floyd. Students allegedly threatened to kill him. He is now under investigation and living under police protection.

The death of George Floyd has really put everyone on edge lately with people demanding the removal of insensitive content and statues. HBO removed Gone With the Wind from its streaming service HBO Max after 12 Years a Slave screenwriter John Ridley claimed it "glorifies the antebellum south."

As has been widely reported, a recently-released draft advisory opinion of the Committee on Codes of Conduct of the Judicial Conference of the United States—a 15-member group of judges responsible for fashioning and interpreting ethical rules applicable to the federal judiciary—concluded that membership in the non-partisan Federalist Society by judges, law clerks, and staff attorneys is improper because the group’s ideological orientation would call its members’ impartiality into question.

Polar Bear Studies Professor is the Latest Victim of “Cancel Culture”

Legal Insurrection readers will recall I covered a book entitled "The Polar Bear Catastrophe that Never Happened" by Dr. Susan Crockford. The University of Victoria professor analyzes the latest data and reviews the questionable values used in official estimates, concluding that polar bears are actually thriving. She has been fired from her position at the university.

After 15 years as an adjunct assistant professor, Ms. Crockford said the University of Victoria rejected without explanation in May her renewal application, despite her high profile as a speaker and author stemming from her widely cited research on polar bears and dog domestication.
