Nikki Haley Sides With Disney Against DeSantis, Urges Move To South Carolina

Nikki Haley Sides With Disney Against DeSantis, Urges Move To South Carolina

Mark Levin: “Nikki Haley just undermined the people of Florida and their governor by selling out to a woke corporation and the culture war. She’s lost me.”

https://twitter.com/NikkiHaley/status/1651297354228563981

If there’s one thing most conservatives can agree on regarding what they’d like to see in the 2024 Republican presidential nominee it is someone who will unapologetically fight tooth and nail against wokeness in all its toxic forms and Corporate America’s supporting role in fostering its insidious spread into the classroom, the workplace, the courtroom, the newsroom, the scientific community, the U.S. military, and beyond.

So imagine the surprise of many to see purported anti-woke 2024 GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley, who was the U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. under then-President Donald Trump, come out in support of Disney over Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis during an appearance on Fox News Tuesday.

During her interview, Haley was asked about the lawsuit Disney filed yesterday against DeSantis, which alleges “a targeted campaign of government retaliation” that Disney says “threatens Disney’s business operations, jeopardizes its economic future in the region, and violates its constitutional rights.”

Haley’s response was to frame the issue from a business perspective, touting what she says was her record as South Carolina’s governor when it came to attracting businesses to the state (transcribed from video):

“You know, as governor, I took a double-digit unemployment state and I turned it into an economic powerhouse. Businesses were my partners, because if you take care of your businesses, you take care of your economy – your economy takes care of the people and everyone wins. And so that’s the way we dealt with it.

South Carolina was a very anti-woke state and still is. If Disney would like to move their hundreds of thousands of jobs to South Carolina and bring the billions of dollars with them, I’ll let them know I’ll be happy to meet them in South Carolina and introduce them to the governor and the legislature that would welcome it.”

In a tweet on the matter, Haley ripped a page straight out of the Trump campaign playbook when it comes to referring to DeSantis, writing that, “SC’s not woke, but we’re not sanctimonious about it either.”

Watch:

I literally cringed when I watched the video and read the tweet. All I could think was “Why? Why?

I get that primary campaigns are about each candidate carving out a lane among people who presumably are for the most part like-minded on the important issues that matter to voters. I also get that the occasional jabs are going to be thrown, and that such jabs will definitely become more frequent and punishing the closer we get to the actual primaries.

But on this, in what should be the defining issue for any Republican presidential campaign that wants to see a healthy degree of success — this is what Haley came up with? Making it about business and jobs and tax dollars and not about understanding how Disney took a lead role in trying to get a Florida law that was designed to protect children in public school classrooms from being taught sexually explicit lessons repealed or struck down?

I mean it was like the kids’ glove version of what Trump said when he blasted DeSantis over his war with Disney, so much so that it had me (and other conservatives) wondering if this wasn’t Haley actually angling for a vice-presidential nod from Trump who, last I checked, did not have the time of day for Haley anymore considering how often she’s flip-flopped in her opinions of him.

The reaction on Twitter among conservatives including prominent conservative voices like Dana Loesch and Mark Levin seemed to be almost universal that this was a seriously bad move for Haley, with some declaring her presidential candidacy over:

The pro-DeSantis “Never Back Down” SuperPAC had this response to Haley’s comments:

DeSantis’ office had one of their own:

This guy pretty much summed up what a lot of conservatives I saw were thinking with one exception:

While it’s true DeSantis has won a lot of battles against the implementation of CRT and the trans agenda during his time as governor, he’s not the only Republican candidate (or presumptive candidate) who stands out as solidly anti-woke.

Tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, author of “Woke, Inc.: Inside Corporate America’s Social Justice Scam” has some pretty solid anti-woke creds as well, which the nation got a good preview of during the now-infamous segment between him and CNN’s Don Lemon, which was said to be the straw that broke the camel’s back for CNN higher-ups, who fired Lemon Monday.

There will be other anti-woke GOP candidates who come along, but assuming former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie throws his hat into the ring, he won’t be one of them considering his suggestion that DeSantis’ actions towards Disney were not what a conservative would do, as if Christie has any experience whatsoever than being a body man for Trump and who, like Haley, flops like a fish on Trump when it suits his purposes.

Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson ain’t it, either. ‘Nuff said there.

To reiterate the point I made at the beginning of this post, whoever the eventual GOP presidential nominee is has to be willing and eager to go the distance when it comes to fighting against the worst elements of what the Democratic party has in mind for the future of this country. I mean this is, in my opinion, a non-negotiable thing.

It doesn’t matter if the name is Trump, Haley, Christie, or whoever. If they can’t see that we’re in an existential fight for the soul of this country and then unequivocally commit to standing against wokeness, then they are – in my view – not worthy of leading it.

Uh huh. And Nimrata Randhawa wants to be the Republican candidate for president.

Please, tell me more.

“Let’s surrender to the transgender grooming pedophilia trend – hey, it’s good for business!”

– Nikki Haley

Maybe not an exact quote, but that’s the general vibe.

Big business’ political inclinations are not friendly to freedom of speech these days, Nikki. Oh, is Walt Disney is part of the news media censorship ring and sells out to China? Yep.

1. Pro CCP
2 Pro grooming in K-3
3 Pro censorship

Maybe those are not signs of an ally?

Danny in reply to PrincetonAl. | April 27, 2023 at 2:54 pm

She is far from the only one. This is a “Pro corporate Republican” vs “Pro values Republican” issue.

If you like the pro-corporate side pick someone like Nikki Haley or Donald Trump.

If you like the pro-values side pick DeSantis (there are no other viable values candidates).

Why? Because that’s what Republicans do.

No Chance of Disney moving to SC. 50 years of Florida investment is too much to walk away from.

I always viewed SC as one of them places a person can’t get to from where they live. It’s kinda like a door stop between GA and NC. And the people talk funny.

Neo in reply to kjon. | April 27, 2023 at 2:35 pm

This is the same nonsense that the Left has been pitching for months now.
You just don’t pickup 50 years of investment in physical infrastructure and drop it even ten feet from where you start. Only morons would believe that, so I guess Nikki Haley is a moron.

And that, friends, is what we call “political self immolation.”

    diver64 in reply to Dimsdale. | April 27, 2023 at 11:27 am

Not if you want to be Trump’s VP.

Trump and Haley. 2 peas in the same pod.

Paula in reply to JR. | April 27, 2023 at 1:44 pm

I don’t think they like each other though.

Trump likes anyone (literally anyone, no matter how truly abhorrent they are) if they “say nice things about” him. He’s always been that way, so I’m sure Nikki Haley can manage to spout out her deep reverence for Trump to meet his super low bar of approval. It doesn’t matter that she truly loathes him (I believe she does, but it’s hard to tell with her because she is a weather vane and just goes with the latest thing, has no moral compass or foundation. Either way, though, whether she likes him or not, she was lying in one of those instances and is happy to continue lying to get ahead. She’s as fake as the day is long. I cannot abide Nikki Haley. Can. Not. Abide.).

Stacey – your last paragraph sums it up very neatly. We must have leaders committed to the task of rooting out the wokeistas from our institutions. They must be willing to stand up and be counted v making worthless anodyne statements or worse yet rhetorically siding with the wokeistas. Some GoP politicians have chosen to side with the wokeistas and corporatists instead of the ordinary Citizens who are pushing back against all the woke ideology being shoved at them. We should always observe closely when folks tell us who they are and what they believe by their actions.

What is wrong with this woman? If there is a bozo RINO stance for something, she’ll embrace it full on.

I am so embarrassed to watch her perform fellatio on a mouse

As a Florida resident and a Republican voter, there is no way in hell would we support Haley nor any politician who comes out in support of Disney. I am sure the good people of SC would agree.

As a SC resident, I was very glad to see her fail-up and move on. Every so often she reminds me why. This is one of those times.

She’s a planned distraction, same as Christie. Gotta keep the 24/7 “news” cycle full up with noisy meaningless drivel.

2smartforlibs | April 27, 2023 at 10:05 am

This is why she has no business running for office of any kind.

No matter what you think of DeSantis, Haley’s siding with Disney is a massively tone deaf move with Conservatives. It just proves she has no rudder and will do whatever she thinks will get her “in.”

E Howard Hunt | April 27, 2023 at 10:17 am

I hope she drops out early. She is a truly despicable, vulgar woman.

How is this different from Donald Trump or Chris Christie also siding with Disney?

I am sorry to say so but we the people who are siding against Disney are the change in the Republican Party, whoever it is from Trump to Haley they are what the 21st century Republican Party has always been.

I welcome DeSantis bringing back the 20th century Republican Party, but we do have to be realistic about what to expect from the people who spearheaded the change from 20th to 21st century version.

mailman in reply to Danny. | April 27, 2023 at 4:14 pm

It’s different because she didn’t have to be a dumb ass and jump on the anti-RDS band wagon 🙄

It’s a self created unnecessary own goal she could easily have avoided but no, she had to be part of the “I ain’t Ron” morons 🙄

She didn’t have to do it but there you go.

Danny in reply to mailman. | April 27, 2023 at 4:22 pm

I agree to some extent but if you look at her past electoral statements they are full of how government is the problem and corporations + tax cuts are the solution.

Ultimately if you ask any actor you will find that they have a much easier time with niches they have played already than ones that are new to them (which is why truly gifted actors and actresses are often miscast).

Nikki Haley has played the “MUH BIG GOVERNMENT” for at this point multiple decades she might just not have the talent to switch roles.

I would agree it was stupid and the ultimate own goal because it shows she is incapable of changing.

Very disappointing to see President Trump, Nikki Haley and other GOP candidates opportunistically throw conservative principle by the wayside in order to align with Disney — and, by implication — align with its corporate cohorts who are similarly perennially engaged in obnoxiously Leftist, “woke” sermonizing, propagandizing and hectoring of the consumers who provide their revenue.

How hard would it have been for President Trump to say something along the lines of, “I disagree with Governor DeSantis on some issues, but, on this issue, he’s done the right thing.” It’s disappointing to me that he can never be the bigger man.

aslannn in reply to guyjones. | April 28, 2023 at 3:53 pm

It’s funny that you put “President Trump” and “conservative principle” in the same sentence.

guyjones in reply to aslannn. | April 29, 2023 at 5:17 pm

I get your point, but, it’s silly and pointless to apply a conservative purity test to Trump. He undeniably achieved positive results as President and promoted generally beneficial domestic and foreign policies. And, he’s the person most directly responsible for Roe being overturned by SCOTUS. So, yeah, we all know that he’s a flawed person — this isn’t a revelation — but, he got good things done.

Ooops, she did it again.
We don’t want Disney…send them back to Anaheim and lets get more manufacturing jobs.
We already have Murder Beach.

Trump and Haley are what we used to know as “Republicans” who always sided with big business. No matter the issue, Rs always sided with business. The Better Bussiness was always with Rs in elections. What Haley and Trump along with DJT jr. did was to back big business even though most conservative Americans oppose the in-your-face tactics they are using. It makes you wonder what would happen if it came to a big showdown between us and big business if one of them was our prez.

100% right except for one nit pick I would like to add.

The 20th century Republican Party actually did see the government as legitimate so did have red lines of power that corporate America was not allowed to exercise (i.e. Ronald Raegan’s regulation of public television to prevent the creation of monopolies on the flow of information).

The selectively libertarian “MUH BIG GOVERNMENT!!!!!” is an invention of the 21st century Republican Party that has been an utter catastrophe for us.

henrybowman in reply to inspectorudy. | April 27, 2023 at 11:33 pm

The phrase was “Chamber of Commerce Republicans.”

IMO Haley’s comment is taken out of a context that has not been mentioned by anyone. She has never been running for POTUS, but for the Trump VP spot. In that context, her remarks are not a surprise.

I actually didn’t have a problem with what she was saying in touting SC but that last sentence. That is how you kill your campaign before it starts however, she isn’t running for President. She is running for Trump’s VP so it makes sense in that regard.

    Danny in reply to diver64. | April 27, 2023 at 4:16 pm

The pro-woke capital is actually the 21st century Republican position.

There is no other available position if government is illegitimate.

We the people who are against Disney in this are the change side within the Republican Party.

Not getting my SC vote. True colors emerge.

Up in the stands, on the contrarian side of the field, observing the prison of two ideas, often mentioned by Greg Gutfeld. He wrote about it in 2017.

https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/greg-gutfeld-the-prison-of-two-ideas

Thus, if you do not praise DeSantis’s legal actions here, no matter what, you are “for” Disney, no matter what.

As Gutfeld said: “They set up an issue as having only two positions — you’re either for or against “X” — and then place you on the side that sounds most evil.”

By all means, let’s pretend that Trump is now woke and an Establishment Republican. The prison of two ideas is alive and well.

    Old school

    What exactly did Trump say?

gonzotx in reply to gonzotx. | April 27, 2023 at 6:01 pm

“Someone” deleted this it’s a quote from a different blog but the only one I could find alluding to maybe what is being said of Trump?
I don’t know, but there is no reason to delete it, but I’m sure it will be deleted or I will be slandered … again…

“DJT just gave his election rationale: enough fighting over cultural stuff let’s fix things.”

“They want their country back. It’s simple,” Trump said. “They want their country back. Their country has been taken away from them. On top of it, whenever something happens, they get accused of the worst things. All they want is common sense. You know what it’s about? We can all say we’re conservative or this or that, but it’s really about common sense. We need borders. We need good schools. We want low prices. We don’t want inflation. We want a strong military. We want no regulations or as little as possible. You know, it’s common sense—most of it. They want that back.”

This is a binary either you favor Disney or DeSantis.

Either DeSantis or Disney is in the right.

Stop trying pseudo-intellectualism in order to pretend not to be the traditional pro-corporate 21st century Republican you are.

Trump has always been pro-corporate, he was pro-corporate during his time as president, he was pro-corporate before being president and his is pro-corporate now.

You are pro-Disney if you feel Florida can’t revoke it’s special privileges in reaction to them actively pushing gender ideology on 1st graders.

There are different issues, which anyone is free to conflate. Get out of your prison, perhaps, although that is asking much.

Maybe you should stop, rather than demand others do so for you.

DeSantis is pro-corporate, too. Three days ago he said:

“Florida leads the nation in new business formations because of our pro-business and pro-freedom policies that drive the economy forward and attract business investment from across the globe,”

      https://flgov.com/2023/04/24/governor-ron-desantis-holds-roundtable-with-japanese-business-leaders-to-kick-off-international-business-development-mission/

Too bad you are stuck in prison.

Everyone on the right is pro-business. The difference you can’t seem to grasp is between a business that makes/produces what it does and sells that thing and one that uses its wealth, reach, and privileged position to push woke/CRT/racist “antiracist” BS.

If you are only for business and don’t care what they do with their socio-cultural clout, up to and including pushing a radical trans agenda, then you are in the Haley-Trump camp. If you are pro-business and think that, for example, Bud Light should stick to brewing and selling beer and stay the heck out of the culture wars, you are in the DeSantis camp.

There is no fine line. Each potential candidate (DeSantis has yet to declare) is very clear where they stand. Haley and Trump with groomer freaks Disney and the trans radicals at Anheuser-Busch (well, the Trump camp, anyway, has called for an end to the boycott on AB products . . . because . . . wait for it. . . . political donations–Wait, should we follow the money or not? Hmmm.), and DeSantis firmly and staunchly opposed. For once, it’s not nuanced. It is what it is. You’ve picked your camp. Yay you!?

I know Fuzzy has actually already knocked your horrible argument into hell but I really do have to call you out on something intensely dishonest you just did.

You just cited that Florida is a business friendly environment and the fact that he is trying to attract apolitical Japanese companies into Florida to claim he is on the corporate side of corporate America vs traditional values.

We can’t expect a single honest statement from you can we? Fuzzy has already corrected you on that I am just pointing out that your argument is horrendous.

“As an aside, you’re on a vendetta against Trump. It seems part of every comment you make. On the other hand, there was no criticism of DeSantis here, but those that seem incapable of nuance. You illustrate the point completely. Thank you.”

That confirms I can not use the right word to describe you and follow the LI rules for posting but why the hell would I be criticizing DeSantis for his defense of our values? I have said a trillion times here I DONT GIVE A DAM what Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos pay in taxes, I am a values voter not a anything to cut upper class taxes voter.

Again explain why the I need to criticize DeSantis for doing the right thing?

Go ahead explain it go on I demand you explain it and no you don’t get out of it by pointing out it is a demand.

I demand you explain why I would criticize DeSantis for doing the right thing?

Like your map to the White House without Wisconsin, Michigan, or Pennsylvania which all have rejected Trump multiple times and recently (in the case of Wisconsin twice in two years) you don’t have an answer.

DeSantis has been 100% in the right via Disney and no I am not pro-woke capital.

I have the nuance that Trump is no worse than other corporate Republicans like Nikki Haley but neither is he any better and that was the first thing I said it was acknowledging I am the one demanding the Republican Party take a new direction.

You are pro-Disney and no you do not get to hide behind pseudo-intellectualism.

        @Retiredcan’tbefired

Any comment written in incoherent anger needs to sit for a good while, so everyone else can see it in all its incoherent anger.

There’s also the danger of feeding trolls. I can’t tell whether Danny is an opinionated fool or a troll enacting the role. For the sake of argument, I’ll go with the former.

Let’s start with the pop quiz. I haven’t looked anything up and am answering from memory.

          Michigan: Gretchen Whitmer (re-elected)
          Wisconsin: Tony Evers (re-elected)
          Pennsylvania: Josh Shapiro

I’m surprised the quiz didn’t include the governors of Arizona, Georgia, or Nevada. Whatever.

Danny’s claim is apparently that Donald Trump, alienating (thousands? tens of thousands? Hundreds of thousands?) of real people, eligible to vote, who cast their ballots legally and enjoyed the good fortune of their votes being counted, got them so disgusted that in 2018 they went to the D side (just because Trump was now poisonous to them) and they elected Evers and Whitmer. In 2022, at least as many were so put off by Trump that they newly went to the D side (or just stayed there from 2018 or 2020) and put Evers, Whitmer, or Shapiro over the top. Presumably also put the hard Leftist on the Wisconsin Supreme Court not long ago, because they were still barfed out by Trump.

What’s Danny’s evidence for any of this?

Evers, Whitmer, and Shapiro all hold their present offices whether they needed illegal votes to get a plurality or not.

I agree with Danny that Trump as nominee in 2024 has effectively no chance of winning WI, MI, or PA. I rate Trump’s prospects as poor in GA and AZ. Merely mediocre in NV.

But what makes his prospects poor?

Surely governors and state officials on the D side will move heaven and earth to make sure Trump doesn’t carry their states. BAMN. Same goes for a certain governor on the R side (Kemp) who won’t be on the ballot next year.

Here’s the thing. I support DeSantis. I think Trump has disqualified himself simply with what he’s done since he announced his candidacy this time around.

I rate Trump’s likelihood of winning if nominated as close to zero.

But what if DeSantis is nominated? Suppose hundreds of thousands (even millions) voted R in 2016 but Trump drove them away. Suppose DeSantis can get nearly all of them back. What are DeSantis’s prospects in WI, MI, PA? In another 3 or 4 states, while we’re handicapping?

I’m supporting DeSantis because I think he’s a much better candidate than Trump now. I’m not supporting him because I imagine he’ll win easily where Trump no longer can. Our system is in bad enough shape, none of us knows whether DeSantis will be allowed to win.

As an aside, you’re on a vendetta against Trump. It seems part of every comment you make. On the other hand, there was no criticism of DeSantis here, but those that seem incapable of nuance. You illustrate the point completely. Thank you.

Stop arguing idiots as they will drag you down to their level and then beat you senseless with experience 😂😂

Better to say, stop arguing with prisoners, but your point is well taken.

Okay, I can’t stop laughing. You Only Trumpers seem to have moved on from claiming everyone who is sane is “drunk” to they’re all “prisoners.” The most hilarious part is that gonzo doesn’t seem to have got the new memo yet and is still slandering our readers as alcoholics. She’ll catch on just as you move on to some new all-hands-on-deck laughable “indictment” of normal people. I can’t wait to see what’s next: drunks, prisoners, . . . what?! The suspense is killing me.

It was Gutfeld who said it. Can’t you even get that right?

Either you are running you aren’t running.

If you are running the following is required

        1. Discussion of your electoral viability

        2. Discussion of your policy history

        3. Discussion of your current policy positions

        4. Discussion of your character

The 2024 race is an essential election. From judges to setting DOJ policy THE PRESIDENT DOES IT.

Trump can’t win the general election. Yes I believe in my issues and don’t give a dam about taxes. That makes nominating Donald Trump fundamentally unappealing to me.

You are right I am unnuanced when it comes to corporate America’s crusade, I unconditionally want it stopped.

We learned last time that making wise staffing choices isn’t one of his strengths. I guess that works when you have a TV show about firing people, not so much when you’re trying to run the executive branch of the federal govt.

        jb4 in reply to Paul. | April 27, 2023 at 9:05 pm

A master of understatement. It is easily arguable that Trump’s staffing decisions cost him re-election.

By far the Republican’s best shot is DeSantis. A competent young guy up against a doddering, corrupt, old fool is worth a swing of 5 million votes right there from one side to the other. In fact, if it were to be DeSantis, I predict Biden would soon be unable to run and we would see someone like Newsom, the race we ought to have. Many people have had it with the Biden, Trump, Hillary, Pelosi, Schumer, McConnell generation.

SeiteiSouther | April 27, 2023 at 2:04 pm

Short list just got shorter for me.

I live in SC and will not vote for Haley for anything. I sure do not like Disney since they changed to woke. Disney is killing their business and we in SC do not need to finance any prop up of them. Go Woke, Go Broke.

“Haley’s response was to frame the issue from a business perspective”
Hey, Nikki, you know what’s profitable and wide open? Black market drug manufacturing. Call 1-800-EL-CHAPO and set up an investor meeting.

Florida Gator | April 27, 2023 at 5:30 pm

As a Florida resident and a Republican voter, I too would not vote for Haley. I was recently in the Orlando area (Kissimmee) for my wife’s family reunion and hated the traffic and overcrowding. I would be glad for the “House of Mouse” to move to South Carolina. and take it’s wokeness with it. That’s not going to happen though. Up until recently, they had, for practical purposes, a whole county for themselves. They just do not wish to have the same regulation and responsibilities as other similar industries.

I was actually a Cruz supporter in 2016 but voted for Trump because the alternative was too horrible to contemplate. I was surprised and impressed with his policies in office and discounted his talk and twitter bombs because as a truck driver I’ve delivered into NYC/NJ and know how they talk. Not a big deal. I even voted for him in 2020 because again…the corpse in chief is proving why. This time, however with Trump’s unhinged attacks on seemingly everything including going after DeSantis and claiming Florida is some kind of hellhole then siding with Disney is the last straw. Trump is being railroaded by every progressive AG and wacko shill in the country is seems but he should shut up and go away. Use his popularity to back someone that can draw the independents like DeSantis and call it a day.

Trump should not drop out of the race *because* he’s being railroaded by corrupt prosecutors and plaintiffs’ lawyers who specialize in the meritless.

He should hang it up because when not actively discrediting himself he’s refusing to respond to questions that he legitimately should answer (as in, why did he allow himself to get taken for a ride by Fauci, Birx, et al., whom he couldn’t fire but he didn’t have to put in charge of anything they didn’t control already).

What does Trump think he’s going to do? Run against DeSantis’ policies, win the nomination—then what?

By telling them to “cap the bottle”, you ARE calling them alcoholics. Be at least honest enough to admit your own intent. You keep pretending that “sarcasm” demonstrates lack of demeaning intent. It doesn’t.

It would be viewed as sarcasm if you used the tag for it /S but you keep refusing to do so.

By the way, I grew up in a family that drank too much and worked Drug rehab for 20 odd years… so I do think I know a bit about intoxication

She can dine with Liz Cheney at the next convention.

Haley is wrong-the key is fighting the woke world-not allowing it to dominate your state or community and not giving woke companies economic clout and political privileges

Haley’s Comet sputters and falls into a girl’s locker room populated by 6’4” biological males standing in the showers.

I’ll be gracious and just say that Nikki Haley doesn’t understand that the people of Florida a fed up with Disney World getting special treatment for over 50 years.

This isn’t the first time that Disney has tried to tell the Legislature what to do. A few years ago they tried to change school start dates to keep summer employees (high school kids) longer.
