In Bid for VP Spot, Elizabeth Warren Drops Medicare for All

“I think right now people want to see improvements in our health care system. And that means strengthening the Affordable Care Act.”

The scramble to the top of the VP heap continued as the Biden camp tested party reaction to Amy Klobuchar.  While the chances for a Kamala Harris or a Susan Rice may have increased with Biden’s recent “you ain’t black” comments, Elizabeth Warren has revisited an issue she never got right as she bids for the VP spot on the Democrat presidential ticket.

Maybe she’s hoping that this time her Medicare for All “pivot” will finally hit the sweet spot she kept missing again and again during her own campaign for the Democrat presidential nomination.

Warren often berated others in the overcrowded Democrat candidate clown car for not embracing “big bold” plans and vowing to abolish private health insurance.

Warren infamously mused during one of the many many Democrat debates, “I don’t understand why anybody goes to all the trouble of running for president of the United States just to talk about what we really can’t do and shouldn’t fight for . . . . I don’t get it.”

Apparently, she’s come around now since she’s happy to (yet again) change her view of Medicare for All if it increases her chances of being selected for the VP spot.

Fox News reports:

The progressive champion from Massachusetts — who made “Medicare-for-all” a key issue in her White House run before suspending her campaign in March — said earlier this week: “I think right now people want to see improvements in our health care system. And that means strengthening the Affordable Care Act. We should be doing that anyway. That should be easy. We should be doing it right now.”

. . . . Warren’s comments come as she’s considered very much in the running — among other contenders — to be Biden’s running mate, and many political pundits are reading her words as the latest public signal that she very much wants to be the Democratic Party’s vice presidential nominee, and wants Biden to view her as a candidate in synch with his governing philosophy.

Biden — who announced in March that he would name a woman as his running mate — has long said he wants to “pick someone who is simpatico with” him on the key issues.

As I so often ask, what is she thinking?  The only possible appeal she could have to Biden as VP is her socialist/progressive cred, and while she burned a lot of bridges by failing to endorse Bernie (among other problems the radical far left has with her), she might still have attracted to Biden some of those voters who didn’t want to sit home or vote for Trump in protest.

Yet another squishy move away from Bernie’s full-on socialism is just going to remind Bernie voters why they dislike and distrust her.

The Hill reports:

David Sirota, editor-at-large of Jacobin, said on Hill.TV’s “Rising” Friday that Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is shifting her view on Medicare for All in an effort to poise herself as an ideal running mate for former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee.

Sirota’s comments come after Politico reported that Warren said at a University of Chicago’s Institute of Politics webinar that right now the government needs to be “strengthening the Affordable Care Act” (ACA) and “eventually” get to a single-payer system.

Warren was one of two progressive candidates in the crowded Democratic primary who were in favor of universal health care via the Medicare for All proposal.

“The [ACA] is about propping up the private health insurance industry, Medicare for All is about saying private health insurance companies should not be between you and your physician; those are fundamentally different visions,” Sirota said. “If your focus right now in the middle of a pandemic is first and foremost on the ACA and saying ‘Lets put Medicare for All on the back burner,’ you’re clearly making a pivot.”

In addition to her ever-changing stance on Medicare for All, Warren has also apparently decided that big money fundraisers are great again.

Warren will never appeal to the right, will always struggle with the center, and cannot deliver the radical left.  Among her many problems, she’s also the senator from Massachusetts who came in third in her home state in the Democrat primary.  Why on earth would Biden select her as his VP?

This will not bring over Bernie voters. They hate her.

Blue-blooded redskin speaks with forked tongue? Who could’ve seen that coming?

Does Warren really think she is a viable option? Sarcastic comments aside what does she bring to the ticket?

It seems likely including her as VP candidate would alienate at least as many d voters as it would bring in. After all if a so called progressive has lost the Jacobin … what more needs to be said.

It isn’t like the Jacobin calling her out can be parlayed into making inroads into the red states. What could she say ‘see even the Jacobin says I am not radical enough’? That ain’t a particularly strong argument to advance.

WASP-y Warren is privileged, but Biden’s running mate will almost certainly be Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, or one of their surrogates. If elected, Biden would step down and turn over the presidency to his VP.

Warren probably has too much ego to be a puppet president. And her campaign anthem leaves something to be desired:

This isn’t a race to be veep, it’s to be the first woman president. Quid pro slo joe will be 25th amendmented out of office should America go full retard and elect him.

    Milhouse in reply to 4fun. | May 24, 2020 at 2:39 am

Sigh. Once again, what is this obsession with the 25th amendment? If he is replaced after being elected (i.e. if the DNC doesn’t replace him before the election), it will most likely be before the electors vote on Dec 14, so that the DNC can be free choose his replacement. After that date his running mate would automatically succeed him.

If for some reason they let him stay on until after his inauguration, which means they still have some confidence in his ability to be president, then when the time comes that they lose that confidence they still won’t use the 25th without first trying to persuade him to resign due to ill health. Only if that fails, or he is unable to resign, would the 25th come into play.

Bear in mind that it’s harder to remove a president with the 25th than it is to remove him by impeachment.

Petrushka in reply to Milhouse. | May 24, 2020 at 7:45 am

25th is just a metaphor for resignation due to medical necessity. Biden has already hinted he would not complete the term. Best case for the Democrats: he serves three years as Chauncy Gardner, resigns, and his replacement gets eight more years.

She can crawl back under the rock she came out of.

Biden’s best bet to win is to chose a VP right now. He needs a campaign frontman; someone in harness able to converse with Mika, Jake or Rachael. Preferably someone young, chatty and glib. The VP only need stand at the plate looking confident while the media walks them to first base and across home plate.

NPR spent a lot of time carefully scripting their correspondents ‘call and response’ narrative to setup the explainer as to why Biden’s latest ‘black’ gaff wasn’t a gaff. It was pretty masterful screenplay work.

The thing is, they’re lazy, and don’t want to do that sort of heavy lifting every week until November; it’s too far to drag the corpse.

Sounds like you’re describing tulsi gabbard. warren is too white and brings too much baggage. Real democrat debate footage of kamala attacking hapless joe would make him look like an even bigger dunce than he already is for choosing her. I hope it’s abrahms, but I think he would have fingered her for the slot by now. I think it’s going to be gabbard.

Tom Servo in reply to CKYoung. | May 24, 2020 at 9:22 am

Except that 98% of the Democrat Party HATES Gabbard. She says conservative sounding things every once in a while, which is why people on our side think she is actually one of their best candidates. BUT to dems, those same things make them all shriek and say UNCLEAN!!!! UNCLEAN!!! NOT OF THE BODY!!!!

They’ll never vote for her, just like they didn’t in the primaries.

As I said upthread, it’s gotta be Abrams.

Speaking of NPR, one of my popular newspaper box signs was “This shutdown was made possible by really poor public schools.”

Just saw news flash … Allen West injured in motorcycle wreak outside Waco Texas

Fortunately not life threatening for either West or the other motorcycle driver involved. Still, he had to have gotten hurt to be airlifted to the hospital.

    txvet2 in reply to Aggie9595. | May 24, 2020 at 12:03 am

Looks like he’s stable. Bad day for bikers. Too much traffic, although you can see forever up there on the plains. No excuse for the driver cutting him off. More than likely the bikes weren’t rolling fast enough and the idiot trying to pass them misjudged the distance to oncoming traffic. I’ve seen it happen.

      Petrushka in reply to txvet2. | May 24, 2020 at 7:48 am

Like the bad day when the 20 ton dumpster crashed the barrier in front of the train full of Republican congressmen?

Tom Servo in reply to Petrushka. | May 24, 2020 at 9:35 am

could be – but as every motorcycle rider knows (well, everybody knows) is that there are a LOT of a-hole drivers out there on the road, especially when things get crowded.

Woman is a common whore.

Bill Clinton liked politics, the campaigning, rubbing up against the people. Obviously.

So does Fauchohontis want this to be all historical-ist, because it’s the next rung and she can’t help herself, or to inflict her vision on us sims?

All three, obviously, like the rest of the Screaming-D’s.

My bad. Pardon my momentary density.

These geniuses seem to forget that once on the internet, always on the internet though google is good at hiding the truth.

How would anyone know there is an improvement? Between the idiots in the CDC (what a shit-show these useless clowns are) and blue governors, like our moron Ige, no one can get in a hospital.
I demand the CDC live under the exact rules they suggest for schools.

-Anyone over the age of 2 must wear a mask.

-No sharing items like books, toys, devices or other supplies.

-Desks should be 6 feet apart and facing the same direction. If not possible, a sneeze guard should be installed.

-Playgrounds and cafeterias will be closed.

-Students must bring their own lunch

-Hallways should be traveled in only one direction.

-Students stay in the same classroom all day with the same teacher.

-Stagger the arrival of students.

-On school buses, one student per seat and skip rows between riders.

-Extensive cleaning and daily health and temperature checks, if possible.
(list from WCAX, Vermont)

I demand it. And if not followed to the letter, the bastards who drew this up, be taken out back and shot…starting with Farquaad Fauci. Who, btw, does absolutely none of this nonsense.

That’s a recipe to cause about 75% of children to home schooled.

    herm2416 in reply to puhiawa. | May 24, 2020 at 10:16 am

    Wait, WHAT?!
From the same government that wouldn’t allow children to bring their own (presumably unhealthy) lunches, to now demanding they bring their own lunches.
All those kids on the free lunch program—their moms will be screaming, for sure, having to provide meals for their kids.

The blonde-haired blue-eyed cigar store Indian already has is a ready-made target for Trump over her affirmative action ripoff, which will not endear her to minorities. Biden doesn’t need that.

notamemberofanyorganizedpolicital | May 23, 2020 at 11:38 pm

Lizzie, you’re too White.

She’s purer White than Ivory Soap……….

Perfect. A black and an American Indian running for Pres/VP. No whites allowed. ….Or something like that.

She would be a real winner for Biden to choose. She would help lock up the faux Native American vote for certain.

“You ain’t black!”

“You ain’t Indian!”

The memes write themselves, boys.

SpaceInvader | May 24, 2020 at 12:27 am

It’s a waste of time. S o r o s already chose that pumpkin headed ignoramus from GA. I bet you can guess who I’m talking about but just in case, Stacy Abrams will be on the ticket in one spot or the other.

correct area wrong, subject, he will someone with as little baggage as possible. I figure if he should win, he will be the shortest term president in history, figure maybe 3 to 4 months after swearing in.

I can’t stand her BREATHLESS!!!, whiny voice. No one should ever have to take so many breaths per sentence. Obviously, her lying, pomposity, smugness, and groupthink (HT: Tucker) take the oxygen right out of the room, and right out of her. Maybe we should put her on a ventilator!

There would be too many sky caps needed to carry the baggage of Fauxcahontas. Too white, too whiney.

I think right now people want to see improvements in our health care system. And that means strengthening the Affordable Care Act.

Funny, I should think the “improvement” people want to see is hospitals and physician’s offices back at work. And that means less government, not more.

We know she’s not red.
We know she’s not Black
How green is she?

Fauxcahontas sells her corrupt soul for small heap of wampum, under any moon. Big surprise.

2smartforlibs | May 24, 2020 at 8:54 am

The only good thing about this campaign has been watching these lying leftists change there positions like a chameleon’s changing color. They cant sell a soul they don’t own.

Those are my principles and if you don’t like ’em, I’ve got others.
