While I was on my family vacation, I was following the events in Hong Kong through my step-daughter (who is fluent in Chinese, works in Beijing, and holds several degrees in Chinese language and culture). She noted that the Hong Kong protests were likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was plucked from bartending obscurity and launched into the House of Representatives by the Justice Democrats. One of the group's co-founders, Saikat Chakrabart, became her ~~handler~~ chief of staff . . . and proceeded to toss one fire bomb after another among his charge's new colleagues on the hill. And now he's out as of Friday.

The Largest Steam Locomotive in North America Draws Massive Crowds in Midwestern Tour

Over the weekend of July 27th, the city of West Chicago, Illinois played host to the largest steam locomotive in North America. The locomotive, nicknamed "Big Boy," was built in 1941 for the Union Pacific Railroad. It was retired from active service in 1959 with the discontinuation of steam service on American railroads and turned into a display piece in Pomona, California.

Nancy Segula lives in Garfield Heights, Ohio. In 2017 she lost her husband. Around the same time, her neighbors moved and left their outdoor cats behind. Segula began feeding the cats saying she felt bad for them and also enjoyed the company. She told local news that she had reached out to local organizations for help with the cats without any success.

Economy Remains Healthy After Employers Added 164,000 Jobs in July

The economy added 164,000 jobs in July while unemployment held steady at 3.7%. Annual wage growth went up to 3.2%. Overall the report satisfied analysts and economists since it almost fell in line with expectations. It shows a healthy economy despite a slight slowdown.
