Fred Warmbier, the father of Otto Warmbier, who North Korea freed the other day, and Kelly Martin, an official from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center spoke to the press today about Otto's condition. North Korea freed Otto Warmbier on Tuesday after spending 16 months in prison in the communist country. A court sentenced Otto Warmbier to 15 years of hard labor after he allegedly stole a propaganda sign. However, Otto Warmbier has returned to the states in a coma. Martin stated that he suffered from a "severe neurological injury" and remains in stable condition. Warmbier claimed the "pariah regime in North Korea" "terrorized sand brutalized" his son for 18 months.

Last night, Professor Jacobson pointed out that the shooting in Virginia yesterday has been in the works for a long time. Our political climate is like a powder keg and people on the left have been whipped up into a frenzy. That might explain why Trump's Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos requires so much security. When was the last time that a person in this role required such protection? Do people on the left who despise DeVos even know who was Education Secretary under Obama? Emma Brown and Devlin Barrett reported at the Washington Post in April:

Wednesday's baseball shooting left several injured and one dead. In things I never thought I'd say, I must agree with both President Trump and Sen. McCaskill -- unity, not division should be the goal at this day's end. It's impossible to ignore the toxic political polarization or that as Professor Jacobson discussed last night, yesterday's events were the unavoidable outcome of years of incitement. This much is pure fact. Did the rhetoric and general political climate play a factor in Hodgkinson's assassination attempt? We don't know. But regardless of all mitigating factors, the only person responsible for Hodgkinson's actions is Hodgkinson.

Yes, let's all come together, hold hands, unite . . . and blame President Trump for the shooting of Steve Scalise and others yesterday. Morning Joe opened today with predictable pieties, Joe Scarborough saying, for example, that "the heated rhetoric in this country has to calm down." But before the show's first hour had ended, Mika Brzezinski turned the heat up to 11 by pointing the finger for the Scalise shooting in part at the president. An emotional Mika, after accusing President Trump of "promoting violence on the campaign trail," continued:
"I'm not putting anything squarely on the president, but I have to say that this is the new added dynamic to what is a very dangerous climate."

The shooting of Republican Congressman Steven Scalise and others during a baseball practice has led to a lot of examination of the anti-Trump, anti-Republican incitement from the mainstream left. While criminal culpability rests with the shooter, there also is no doubt that we are experiencing an unprecedented derangement from establishment Democrats, pro-Democrat media (which is almost all of the mainstream media), the entertainment industry and on campuses. We have been documenting the often violent opposition to Trump for over a year, but particularly since the election. The entire concept of "The Resistance" invokes violence, a deliberate allusion to the resistance movements in World War II Europe.

In a severe blow to the anti-Israel academic boycott movement, the 18,000 member Modern Language Association has passed a Resolution explicitly rejecting the academic boycott of Israel. The academic boycott of Israel had been termed a grave threat to the academic freedom of everyone and the free exchange of ideas by over 250 university presidents and numerous prominent university organizations. Nonetheless, the academic boycott, which is part of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, is a focal point of anti-Israel activist professors and graduate students. Michigan Attorney General Bill Shuettte has filed charges against Michigan Health and Human Services Director Nick Lyon and Chief Medical Executive Eden Wells in the Flint water probe. Lyon faces charges of involuntary manslaughter and misconduct in office while Wells faces obstruction of justice and lying to a police officer. These charges stem from the "Legionnaires' disease outbreak in the Flint area that led to 12 deaths after the city's water supply was switched to the Flint River in April 2014."

Gunman James Hodgkison, a Bernie Sanders supporter, opened fire on GOP lawmakers as they practiced for the annual Congressional baseball game Wednesday morning. He shot Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA), two Congressional aides, and two members of the Capitol Police force were also shot. Scalise remains in critical condition. Rather than reflect on how we landed at this juncture, these individuals rolled out the gun control mantra.

Despite the risk of litigation, the German newspaper Bild Zeitung has gone ahead with the streaming of an investigative documentary that exposed the extent of Antisemitism in Europe. The French-German broadcaster ARTE had previously shelved the 90-minute documentary that uncovered the complicity of the European Union and Germany government in financing antisemitic groups posing as charities and NGOs. On Tuesday, the German language documentary was streamed for 24 hours on the newspaper’s website. French-German ARTE and German broadcaster WDR, both funded by German taxpayers, commissioned the documentary "Chosen and Ostracised -- The hatred of Jews in Europe," but got cold feet after seeing the finished work. The broadcasters confined the documentary to the archives, hoping to dodge a bitter public reception.

In a case docketed today, 195 Democratic Senators and Congressmen, led by Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal and Congressman John Conyers, filed suit against President Trump seeking to declare a violation of the Constitution's Emoluments Clause. This follows a prior lawsuit by the Attorney Generals of Maryland and the District of Columbia. The Emoluments Clause [ARTICLE I, SECTION 9, CLAUSE 8] provides:

Wednesday morning at a practice for the upcoming Congressional baseball game, a shooter opened fire injuring House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA). Several aides and Capitol policemen were also injured. Law enforcement identified the shooter as James T. Hodgkinson from Bellville, Illinois. The 66-year-old owns a home inspection business. According to the Washington Post, Hodgkinson, "was charged in April 2006 with battery and aiding damage to a motor vehicle, according to online records in St. Clair County, Ill." The charges were later dismissed.
