A group of academics has published an article in the socialist publication Jacobin in which they advocate for a "federal job guarantee."  This proposal entails a guaranteed minimal income of $23,000 per year and "rising to a mean of $32,500" to people who do not have jobs.  This money would come, of course, from tax payers who do have jobs, most of whom can ill-afford the tax burden this "spread the wealth" scheme entails. This idea has been batted around by socialists (and communists) for decades and is again rearing its ugly head.

It was a remarkable live-TV moment. During Tucker Carlson's Fox News show, reporter Griff Jenkins was at the scene of an anti-Trump demonstration in DC where a fire had been set in the street. Suddenly, a young boy [maybe 10-11] stepped up to say that he "kind of started the fire." When Jenkins asked why he started the fire, the boy, who identified himself as "Carter," said "because I felt like it and I'm just sort of saying, screw the president."

Tucker Carlson aired his first show in his new 9 pm time slot on Monday night and featured as his first guest on the program, former FOX News host Glenn Beck. It seemed like an odd choice but it did make great TV. Tucker kicked off their conversation by asking Beck for his thoughts on the election but their talk quickly moved to Ted Cruz and faith. Mediaite reports:
‘Did it Shake Your Faith?’: Tucker Carlson Grills Glenn Beck About Trump’s Election On his first broadcast at the 9 PM ET timeslot, Tucker Carlson began the program with Glenn Beck, and right away it got pretty interesting.

Tucker Carlson had a strong showing in our Reader Poll of who should replace Megyn Kelly at Fox News, now that she is moving to NBC. His performance replacing Greta at the 7 p.m. slot made him a hit among conservatives. We covered many of his take-downs, the most epic of which Kurt Eichenwald.

Regular Legal Insurrection readers will recognize the name Kurt Eichenwald. A senior writer at Newsweek [which apparently still exists], Eichenwald is a frequent guest on Joy Reid's MSNBC show, where he can be counted on to spout virulently anti-Republican/Trump views. We've chronicled, as here and here, his predilection to burst into disdainful laughter in the face of conservative interlocutors. On MSNBC, Eichenwald's odd nature had been sheltered in a comfortable cocoon. But on Tucker Carlson's Fox News show of Thursday evening, Eichenwald's deep weirdness was exposed. The meltdown came when Carlson pressed Eichenwald to answer a simple question: is it true, as Eichenwald had tweeted, that Donald Trump had been confined to a mental institution in 1990? Rather than answer the question, Eichenwald went off on a variety of tangents, including the stunt of hauling out a big binder he had created of Carlson's supposed "falsehoods."

If you haven't already discovered Tucker Carlson's new Fox News show, weekdays at 7pm, do yourself a favor and check it out. This Insurrectionist says it's the most entertaining conservative hour on TV. Carlson opens most shows with a left-wing guest whom he politely, but fearlessly, takes on. Tonight's lib, environmentalist Erin Schrode, had, in response to Time naming Donald Trump its Person of the Year, compared Trump to Hitler. When toward the end of the segment, Schrode decried Trump's "name-calling and hate speech and toxic rhetoric," Carlson pounced. "You just compared this guy to Hitler and then with a straight face you're going to accuse him of engaging in hate speech?!! I'm sorry. I can barely hear. The irony alarm is so loud in the background." Can't remember the last time I saw a lefty so clearly confronted with her flaming hypocrisy!

If you haven't been watching Tucker Carlson's new 7 p.m. show (Greta's old slot) on Fox News, you really need to. He's in his element, as was demonstrated in the epic dismantling, disemboweling, and evisceration of liberal journalist Jonathan Allen. While watching the takedown of Allen was fun, Tucker's interview with a Hampshire College social justice warrior was extremely unsettling, and one of the scariest interviews I've seen:

Liberals in media have made their new mission clear. Now that they can no longer prevent Trump from winning the presidency, they intend to attack and smear anyone who might become a member of Trump's administration. Roll Call columnist Jonathan Allen went after Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions before he was even announced as Trump's pick for attorney general. Here are a few choice highlights from Allen's column:
Jeff Sessions Is Unfit for the Cabinet Witnesses testified that the Alabama Republican had called major civil rights organizations “un-American,” used racially insensitive language with associates and even said pot-smoking was the only reason he no longer thought the KKK was OK. His nomination was withdrawn after two fellow Republicans crossed the partisan divide on the panel to disapprove of his confirmation...

Greta Van Susteren sent a shock wave through the political media world in September when she abruptly left FOX News. Since then, the 7 PM slot which bridges the gap between Special Report and the O'Reilly Factor has been filled by network veteran Brit Hume. When Hume took over the slot, he made it clear that the arrangement was temporary and that he would depart after the election. Now we know who will take the slot on a permanent basis with a whole new show.

Tonight on Special Report with Bret Baier both Tucker Carlson and Charles Krauthammer were excoriating Cruz over the issue of Obamacare defunding.  That's fine. If you think he's wrong or foolish or whatever, make the case. But as part of their arguments each brought up that Cruz...
