In what can only be described as another foreign policy win for President Donald Trump, the European countries are 'tiptoeing' towards Washington's position on Iran, Reuters reported Friday. Describing the recent shift in European diplomacy, the news agency noted that the "new approach moves Europe closer to U.S. President Donald Trump’s policy of isolating Iran with tough sanctions."

This week's Case of the Week involves a video that has been making the rounds on the internet showing a large white man apparently knocking out a smaller young black woman with a single punch. I've seen reports that the man has been arrested and presume that he will attempt to justify his punch as a lawful use of defensive force.

A man murdered Ahmed Hussein-Suale, a journalist who helped expose major FIFA corruption, as he drove home on a motorbike in Ghana. From USA Today:
Ahmed Hussein-Suale was killed late Wednesday, shot twice in the chest and once in the neck at close range while driving in the suburb of Accra where he lived. He died immediately, according to police.

Back in 2015, undercover videos showed Planned Parenthood "violating medical and ethical standards codified in federal law and" Texas regulations. This caused Texas to strip the infanticide organization of Medicaid funding. Planned Parenthood asked the federal courts to restore the funding. The 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against them and blasted them "for its rhetoric and medical practices."

Beto O'Rourke hasn't announced his candidacy for 2020 yet, but the folks at 'Draft Beto' have already released an ad, which I guess is supposed to get people excited for his inevitable run. The ad is just like Beto, all style and no substance. It's set to the classic song 'Baba O'Riley' by The Who, which will leave anyone under the age of 40 asking: Who?

We have been here sooooooo many times before. A media outlet publishes an article based on anonymous sources providing information that is so vague it cannot be proven or disproven, but which purports to (1) implicate Trump in a crime, (2) show collusion with the Russians, and/or (3) raise enough suspicions to justify a 3-5 day news cycle.

We recently noted that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that drug overdose deaths surpassed 72,000 in 2017, with fentanyl overdoses contributing significantly to this grim, new statistic. New analysis of mortality statistics shows that for the first time in American history, the odds of dying from an opioid overdose are higher than those of dying in a car crash.
The National Safety Council report used data from the National Center for Health Statistics – Mortality Data for 2017, the 2017 U.S. population and the average life expectancy to approximate the one-year and lifetime odds of someone dying from selected external causes, including heart disease (1 in 6 chance), cancer (1 in 7) and suicide (1 in 88). It determined the lifetime odds dying from an accidental opioid overdose for a person born in 2017 were 1 in 96, while the chances of that same person dying from a motor vehicle crash were 1 in 103.

The Star Trek franchise is in a strange place artistically and commercially. With the J.J. Abrams trilogy of films largely falling by the wayside due to financial problems at Paramount Pictures, the only thing fans have been able to enjoy for the past two years has been Star Trek: Discovery. Fans of Star Trek haven't been happy with this new series. While progressive critics have come to the show's defense, non-progressive fans of the show have largely disregarded the show, criticized it's more overtly political elements and ignored it.

Believe all women, right? Isn't that what the left has been saying since the #MeToo movement began? Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) faces a lawsuit from a former staffer who claimed the congresswoman fired her after she said a former employee of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) raped her in 2015.
