While everyone is gushing over Oprah Winfrey, the Democrats in D.C. can hide the fact that they're holding the spending bill hostage over the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program. Before Christmas, Congress passed a short term spending bill to keep the government running until January 19. The Democrats have made it clear they want full legalization of DACA recipients while Republicans have mentioned a wall and actual reforms to our immigration system.

We previously covered the bitter town/gown dispute between Gibson's Bakery and Oberlin College. The short version is that three Oberlin students were arrested for shoplifting at Gibson's bakery. Oberlin students claimed racial profiling, and mounted protests and a boycott supported by college student groups, administrators and faculty. The boycott continued even after police released data showing there was no racial profiling in shoplifting arrests at the bakery, and the three students pled guilty. The Boycott, Divest and Sanctions (BDS) movement is dedicated to the destruction of Israel. As we documented, BDS in its present form was conceived at the 2001 Tehran and later Durban conferences, as a tactic with the goal of the elimination of Israel as a Jewish-majority state. Contrary to the popular mythology of the BDS movement, it was not the result of a 2005 call from "Palestinian Civil Society."  BDS was a continuation of the anti-Jewish Arab boycotts dating back at least to the 1920s, repackaged for Western "social justice" activism.

During Sunday's Golden Globe awards, Oprah received the Cecil B. DeMille Award. Her acceptance speech has Democrats hopeful they too can have a celebrity gazillionaire candidate of their own this next presidential election cycle.

You probably have not heard of  George Lakoff, a progressive linguistics Professor Emeritus at Berkeley. But you have heard of Elizabeth Warren. Particularly Warren's "you didn't build that on your own" speech, which picked up a theme also expressed by Obama, that people who are successful only got that way because of the efforts of others and government, so they need to give some of it back:

Year One of President Trump's much-vaunted "judge story" was far more successful than anyone could have expected. Trump nominated and confirmed more appellate circuit court judges in his first year than any modern president. His judges were, on average, just 50 years old and all of them were well-credentialed conservatives. Several are potential SCOTUS nominees.

CNN is anti-Trump 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. So anti-Trump that it has had some of the most embarrassing false reports, including:
  • The false report that James Comey would testify that he never told Trump that Trump was under investigation.
  • Three CNN journalists had to resign after a false report about a supposed investigation of a Russian investment bank with ties to Trump advisor Anthony Scaramucci.
  • The false report about Trump's supposed fish-feeding during a visit with the Japanese Prime Minister
  • The claim that Don Jr. received advance notice from Wikileaks of the DNC hacked emails

When President Trump signed the tax bill into law, Democrats, particularly in blue states with high state income taxes, wailed.  The Nation declared the new tax law "a deliberate attack on blue states," and New York governor Andrew Cuomo called it an "attack only on blue states" and "economic civil war." Among the attacks they perceive is the new law's $10,000 maximum for all state and local deductions.  Oddly, the left is howling because this is, as Vox points out, "effectively raising taxes on wealthy people." Setting aside the fact that taxing the rich has been the leftist mantra for decades and became particularly shrill during the Obama administration, blue states are now actively looking for ways to get around this and other measures in the new tax law.

It appears that the elite media is figuring out what has been transparently clear to me: After a full year of California's politicians waging a #WarOnTrump, the White House is now countering with its own policy blasts.
It's Washington versus California on marijuana, climate change, offshore oil drilling and immigration this week as bubbling disagreements between President Donald Trump's administration and California all seemed to spill over at once.
