Brett Kavanaugh was sworn in at the White House today, by Justice Anthony Kennedy, whom Kavanaugh replaces on the Court and for whom Kavanaugh clerked. Also in attendance were the other members of the Supreme Court.

First Lady Melania Trump has spent the last week in Africa, touring during Ghana, Malawi, Kenya and Egypt. The trip was designed to enhance the First Lady's public profile, generate goodwill, and strengthen the connections between the Trump administration and the leaders of these nations. The normally-reserved Mrs. Trump used a photo-op at the Giza complex, set in front of the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx, to comment on her husband's tweets and the Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
Reporters traveling with her as she traversed Africa this past week asked her about the news back home of the confirmation of the president’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett M. Kavanaugh, and the allegations by Christine Blasey Ford that he sexually assaulted her.

Just before President Donald Trump boarded Air Force One, he told the press he has no plans to fire Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. Rosenstein is traveling with Trump to Orlando, FL. Speculation has grown around a possible firing of Rosenstein after The New York Times reported last month that he offered to tape Trump and discuss invoking the 25th amendment with Cabinet Members.

Superstar Taylor Swift has always remained silent on politics...until now. On her Instagram account, Swift took the opportunity to slam Tennessee Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who is running for the senate, and endorse Tennessee Democrats. She wrote that "several events" in her life "and in the world in the past two years" changed her mind and explains why she can't support Blackburn:
Running for Senate in the state of Tennessee is a woman named Marsha Blackburn. As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me.

Sheldon Whitehouse is being challenged by former Rhode Island Supreme Court Justice Robert Flanders in the upcoming Senate race. We have been covering the race for months, long before it started to gain national attention. That recent attention is a result of Whitehouse's performance during the Kavanaugh hearings, when he earned national mockery for intensive questioning of Kavanaugh about such things as whether the term "boof" in a high school yearbook referred to a sex act or flatulence.

As we continue to celebrate the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, it seems rather fitting that a video from a 2017 weekly presser is making the rounds.  It shows House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) explaining to the assembled press what a "wrap-up smear" is and how it can be used to harm political opponents. It reads like a template for the base and unfounded attacks on Justice Kavanaugh during—and after—his confirmation hearings.
