My son has been actively involved in fencing since he was 7, and he is a junior coach for Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) camps during the summer. While his current arsenal of weapons consists of epees, we are in the process of ordering him a long sword to use in his historic weapons program. Therefore, it was with great interest that I learned that a new Texas law will permit the open carry of swords and other long-blade weapons.

Professor Jacobson recently wrote a post about Obama's recent rhetoric against President Trump. In giving his speech, Obama was violating the traditional code of behavior for ex-presidents, which was to keep their mouths shut and refrain from criticizing their successors. But no one on earth should be surprised by the fact that Obama just can't stay away. In fact, there's evidence that he's been trying to undermine Trump since Trump first took office, and perhaps even before.

Like a drowning person, the opponents of Brett Kavanaugh are desperately trying to grab onto anything. Having failed to rattle Kavanaugh, either through questioning by Democrat Senators or shouting by alt-left protesters in the hearing room, Democrats have taken to bold-faced lies, like that peddled by Kamala Harris about contraceptives. And bizarre presidential campaign posturing, like Cory Booker

Last week, I wrote a post on Brazilian election frontrunner Jair Bolsonaro, sometimes known as the Trump of Brazil. Now comes news that Bolsonaro was stabbed two days ago:
The leading candidate in Brazil’s presidential election is in serious but stable condition after being stabbed by an assailant at a campaign rally on Thursday, doctors said, pushing an already chaotic campaign into further disarray.

Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) is the latest Democrat to jump on the deception shuttle to, she hopes, the White House in 2020.  She tweeted an 11-second video of soon-to-be Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in which he says, "Filling out the form would make them complicit in the provision of the abortion-inducing drugs that they were, as a religious matter, objected to."

When I read Michael Crichton's famous Jurassic Park in the 1990's, I knew enough about the approach to sense that cloning could be used to bring back extinct animals. It appears that Crichton's novel was indeed prophetic, as scientists are attempting to extract cells from the mummy of a 40,000-year-old foal from Siberia in an attempt to use the sample to clone the extinct species back into existence.

The hearing for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh dominated the headlines this week, which means you may have forgotten that the government faces a possible shutdown if Congress cannot get legislation to fund the government. Trump threatened during the week to shut down the government if he doesn't get funding for the wall. His tune changed right before a rally in Billings, Montana, when he told Fox News that he doesn't want to do anything to harm the Republicans going into November.
