Next Tuesday, August 15, is an Alabama Special Election primary for the Republican nomination to replace Jeff Sessions in the U.S. Senate. Luther Strange was an interim appointment, and is running. Congressman Mo Brooks and "controversial" former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore also are running. Since whoever gets the Republican nomination is all but guaranteed to win in the general election, the Republican Special Election essentially is the election.

Jewish Voice for Peace, an anti-Israel organization which is a leading player in the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, has released an “updated” video for its “Deadly Exchange” campaign. We wrote about JVP’s “Deadly Exchange” initiative in a prior post, With “Deadly Exchange” Campaign, Jewish Voice for Peace moves from enabling to promoting antisemitism. As we highlighted, the campaign blames Israel and major Jewish American organizations for policing problems in minority communities, including police shootings. JVP thus sets up Jews as part of and the driving force behind a white police power structure oppressing non-whites. As demonstrated in the prior post, those accusations are false, but pernicious. JVP holds Jews out as the cause of unrelated problems, and does so in terms meant to exploit and incite antisemitism and racial hatred and resentment.

Sarah Palin has sued the NY Times for defamation, based on an Editorial regarding Palin's alleged role in instigating the shooting of Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. I discussed the suit and the motion to dismiss filed by The Times in a prior post, NY Times defense: Palin Crosshairs Editorial Wasn’t Actually About Sarah Palin. Please read the prior post for background and links to pleadings and motion papers. The Court just issued an unusual order on a motion to dismiss, requiring that the authors of the Editorial (presumably one or more members of the Editorial Board, but perhaps others as well) appear in Court on August 16 to give testimony and to be cross examined as to whether they were aware of prior NY Times articles exonerating Palin from any responsibility.

As the Democratic Party's internal wrangling among the Obama, Clinton, and Bernie circles picks up steam, Bernie Sanders is releasing a handy-dandy handbook for teens interested in engaging in his socialist "political revolution." Teen Vogue began pushing Bernie's latest attempt to spread his "political revolution" to teens back in May.  Teen Vogue, it should be noted, has recently published articles that provide for teenagers a "how to" on anal sex, explain that opposition to Sharia Law is "hate speech," and deride the Bible as "fake news."

The last time I fact-checked The New York Times, the Gray Lady was getting a much needed geography lesson about Arkansas. The lessons continue! Earlier this week, the newspaper-of-record published a front-page, bombshell report stating that a leaker had sent them a draft report of the National Climate Assessment, an analysis that the contact feared was being suppressed by the Trump administration. According the original article, the material wasn't being released because it contradicted the views of Team Trump.

The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Gaza-based Islamist terror outfit Hamas have decided to restore their ties, which had been disrupted in the wake of the Syrain conflict. The Shi’ite theocracy of Iran has been backing the Assad Regime and Hamas rooting for the Sunni-Islamist militia. Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif hosted a delegation of senior Hamas operatives earlier this week, Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Posts reports. Hamas delegation is in Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran's newly appointed President Hassan Rouhani.

People who tell the truth don't need to remember which story to tell. Loretta Lynch apparently needed to remember which story to tell about her secret tarmac meeting with Bill Clinton, whose wife was under investigation for possible violations of national security laws relating to handling of classified information. Lynch was the only DOJ official present with Clinton. (Lynch's husband also apparently was on the plane, though it's unclear whether he participated in all of the conversation.) That meeting preceded by just a few days the FBI clearing Hillary Clinton.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is traveling the country, meeting with American workers, and doing other things which signify an interest in running for office. This includes hiring failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's pollster to work at his charity organization. Nothing is official yet but people are talking.

The controversy regarding Google (former) employee James Damore may have peaked, but it's not going away. Most of the mainstream and tech media coverage has been completely dishonest. As mentioned in my first post about the diversity memo Damore wrote, the media was describing the memo and Damore as being "anti-diversity." That plainly was false, as I wrote in Google Senior Engineer commits diversity heresy:

As I have noted in previous posts, Trump's EPA chief has refocused the agency back to its core mission of protecting the environment from actual pollutants. Legal Insurrection readers may recall that President Donald Trump picked Georgia's former governor, Sonny Perdue, to head the United States Department of Agriculture. Like Scott Pruitt, Perdue is scaling back positions and making significant changes in his agency's policies. For example, there have already been alterations in the Michelle Obama's signature school lunch program.
