January 2017

In the largest pity-party in history, the "Women's March" attracted millions of participants across the globe, ginned-up on on a heady mix of social justice, self-righteousness, and Trump-fear.
• Hundreds of thousands of women gathered in Washington on Saturday in a kind of counterinauguration after President Trump took office on Friday. A range of speakers and performers cutting across generational lines rallied near the Capitol before marchers made their way toward the White House.

I'm not sure whether to be pleased or amused that we were so successful that the progressive left is now trying to recreate and manufacture a progressive version of our truly grassroots Tea Party movement. One aspect of their inchoate "resist we much" campaign to recreate our powerful movement is the left's new-found respect for all things related to the Constitution and their adoption of things like our use of "we the people."  I find this amusing.  Less amusing is their own unique twist, one that includes being purposefully offensive and violent. For example, watching the coverage of the inauguration yesterday, my jaw dropped when I saw the report about a limousine that was set on fire in DC . . . with the words "we the people" written on it.  Talk about cognitive dissonance.

Children of politicians, especially young ones, remain off limits. But the tolerant left forgot that basic courtesy on Inauguration Day when so many attacked 10-year-old Barron Trump. Hate President Donald Trump as much as you want, but don't attack his children. Lord knows I couldn't stand President Obama, but I would never attack his daughters.

The liberal media is looking for something to console itself. Anything to show that Obama's election was bigger, better and more important than Trump's. The latest talking point seems to be that Obama drew a bigger crowd at his inaugurations than Trump. The New York Times reports:
Trump’s Inauguration vs. Obama’s: Comparing the Crowds An analysis of news footage appears to indicate that fewer people attended President Trump’s inauguration than President Obama’s in 2009. The footage on this page was captured 45 minutes before each oath of office. Attendees were still entering the National Mall up until Mr. Trump’s speech.

Remember when there was serious discussion about Ashley Judd running as the Dem candidate for senator from Kentucky against Mitch McConnell in 2014? Maybe cooler heads prevailed, realizing what they would have had on their hands! Check out Judd's performance at the DC Women's March today. After cutting off Michael Moore, she proceeded to histrionically channel a diatribe on behalf of a young woman from Tennessee that was laden with Hitler and Nazi references to Trump and the Republicans: "a man whose words are a death trap to America . . . I didn't know devils could be resurrected, but I feel Hitler in these streets. A mustache traded for a toupee. Nazis renamed the cabinet, electoral conversion therapy, the new gas chambers."

Having long promised to undo immediately as much of ObamaCare as he can by executive order, President Trump kept his word.  Mere hours after his swearing in, Trump signed a flurry of documents, including his first EO on ObamaCare. Because ObamaCare is, as the left is so fond of saying, "the law of the land," Trump can only do so much to undo ObamaCare via EO. That "only so much," however, is quite considerable given the overreach of his predecessor.

Remember when Tea Party participants were mocked for carrying copies of the Constitution? In 2010, The Hill reported:
Demand for copies of the U.S. Constitution is skyrocketing. The increased interest comes amid the rise of the Tea Party movement and as both parties cite the Constitution to advance their agendas.

Today, we celebrate the beginning of a new presidency. I thought that a great way to begin this new era is to learn a little something about Donald Trump from a woman who has known him for over 25 years. Terry Lee Ebert Mendozza, who was a successful and powerful real estate mogul in Chicago for many years, was a founding member of "The Trumpettes", a group of influential women from across the country who were among his original supporters. I chatted with her on Canto Talk this week:

Here's my Quick Hit in this morning's Morning Insurrection newsletter:
"THE END - It's strange to see Obama leave office. I started Legal Insurrection three weeks before the 2008 election. Our entire blog life has been about -- in varying degrees -- Obama. I'm glad to see him go, but it will be strange not having Obama to kick around anymore."
Here are some historical facts.
