Obama, having bid to disrupt a previously scheduled Republican primary debate at the Reagan Libary on Wednesday, September 7, was rebuffed by John Boehner, who just said No, do it on Thursday.

Obama caved, and now has agreed to give the speech on Thursday.

Which conflicts with the NFL season opener.

Who gets the...

My town in Rhode Island still is mostly without power, as is much of the state.  My wife returned there briefly today (we were in Ithaca when Irene hit) and called me to say “I’ve never seen anything like this.”  Even several days later the roads/yards are littered with debris and...

Allahpundit:

The worst part is that, with the economy on the brink of a double-dip and consumer confidence falling off a cliff, this guy’s mind is still so preoccupied with the campaign that he can’t muster a moment of presidential leadership without counterprogramming it against a Republican primary event.

Update 9/1/2011:  Because his...

As a follow up to my prior post on Obama’s calculated request that he give a speech to a Joint Session of Congress the same evening as a Republican primary debate, and the first day Congress is back in session, John Boehner has not said Yes or No, but requested Obama...

Obama has sent a request for a Joint Session of Congress appearance, this time to deliver his jobs speech.  And guess what, he asked for it the night of a previously scheduled Republican primary debate:

President Obama has requested a joint session of Congress next week...

Via Chicago Tribune:

An investigator for Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn’s human rights agency got a slap on the wrist for forwarding an e-mail before last November’s election that contended the Republican Party had been hijacked by “dangerous, radical hate mongers called the ‘Tea Party.’”

The e-mail, sent on a state computer, claimed talk...

Obama plans a fall offensive against Republicans, according to The Hill (via JWF and Instapundit):

President Obama is preparing to fight a political war this fall on two fronts — the first against Republicans who want his job and the second against Republicans who want to make his job more difficult.

Obama is...

Rhode Island still is without power in much of the state, including my neighborhood.  National Grid is estimating that power will not be restored to the entire town until September 5.

As of yesterday, as reported by The Providence Journal:

Electrical power was the biggest casualty of Tropical Storm Irene –– and the...

Thanks to reader Greg who writes:

I’m a young Legal Insurrection reader from North Carolina. I designed this anti-Obama bumper sticker and would really appreciate if you could help me spread the design so people can re-post or print it themselves. The beauty is that at first glance it looks pro-Obama, so even some oblivious Obama disciples might stick it on their cars.

I expect most people will get the Animal House reference and think about what Obama is doing to my (“Youth”) generation.

A youth raised on Legal Insurrection and Animal House.  There’s hope for us yet.

I previously posted about the resignation of Capt. (Ret.) Robert P. Taishoff, a major donor to Widener Law School and Chair of the school’s fundraising campaign, Widener Law School loses major donor over Connell case.

I indicated that I had seen the text of Taishoff’s resignation communication, and that it was clear he...

I should know never to make a categorical statement about anything, because I have several thousand fact checkers/helpers.

This morning I joked that I had not seen any boats involved in the Madison protests.

Thanks to reader Patricia for sending me a link to a post about...

That’s a theme in a very worthwhile article about Thomas written by Jeffrey Toobin in The New Yorker:

The Kennedy administration has been described as having attracted the best and the brightest to government service, sometimes with bad but well-intentioned results.

I don’t know Alan Krueger, Obama’s new head of the Council of Economic Advisers.  But Ezra Klein claims to know a lot about Krueger, describing him as such:

… Krueger is arguably...

They have boats in Wisconsin?

I never knew they had boats in Wisconsin.  Is it on a lake or something?  I didn’t see any boats in the videos of the protests in Madison.

But then again, they also didn’t seem to have a sense of humor in Madison, unlike the owner of the boat below.  Probably a Walker supporter.

Thanks to reader Tom who writes:

Was taking a lazy stroll with the family past Manitowoc Marina yesterday and snapped this photo. Not a great camera, but the name of the boat in the pic is Stimulus Package, just below the flag. Thought you would appreciate. Hope you survived the storm unharmed.
