Ahead of next month's summit between President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, the White House has waived key sanctions linked to the Russian-German Nordstream 2 gas pipeline. "The Biden administration has decided against sanctioning the company in charge of building the pipeline," CNN reported.

Russia's Vladimir Putin recently finagled constitutional amendments to permit him to run for two more terms (though he said that it should be a temporary constitutional change that covers only him). Now that he has effectively sewn up his position as president until 2036, Russia is finally starting to reveal more fully the extent of its coronavirus infections.  Russia is apparently still claiming that they've had no Wuhan coronavirus-related deaths.

Two supposed bombshell reports about Trump-Russia collusion rocked the media news cycle this weekend, but as all of the other bombshells dropped by the media, there is a lot less to the reports than the hype suggests. The hype has given rise to a Manchurian Candidate accusation against Trump, that he is an agent of some sort of the Russians, with Vladimir Putin his controller.

President Donald Trump abruptly canceled his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the increased tensions in Ukraine after Russia attacked and seized Ukrainian vessels in the Black Sea. From Fox News:
"Based on the fact that the ships and sailors have not been returned to Ukraine from Russia, I have decided it would be best for all parties concerned to cancel my previously scheduled meeting in Argentina with President Vladimir Putin,” he tweeted Thursday.

President Donald Trump's meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Helsinki received some sharp criticism from the mainstream European media. Following Monday's summit, newspapers and news outlets on this side of the Atlantic made hay about the critical remarks coming from Arizona Republican senators John McCain and Jeff Flake, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, and former CIA Director John Brennan. "Trump's behavior [at the summit] was catastrophic," said the German newspaper Die Welt. "He made too many concessions to Putin. Many Republicans were shocked. And the former CIA chief even spoke of treason," referring Brennan's tweet that Trump's "press conference performance in Helsinki" was "nothing short of treasonous."

I watched the Trump-Putin press conference on Monday morning, then spent almost 8 hours in the car with only terrestrial news radio, when available. When I finally arrived and had a chance to catch up on Twitter and replays of cable news, it was obvious that I re-entered a world divorced from the reality that most people hear, which is short news bites while going about their lives.

Kremlin Foreign Policy Adviser Yuri Ushakov said that President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin will hold a summit and details will come out on Thursday. Ushakov said the Russian president "reached an agreement with U.S. national security adviser John Bolton."

A chemical attack in Syria has left dozens dead.  Assessment is on-going, so reports vary as to how many people were killed.  Early reports say that at least 42 people were killed, with hundreds in need of medical care.  The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is reporting that over 70 civilians were killed. According to reports, the victims of Saturday's chemical attack showed signs of chlorine and nerve agent poisoning. President Trump has responded vigorously on Twitter, tagging Syria's president "Animal Assad" and reminding us that Obama's 2013 empty "red line" threats against Syria's use of chemical weapons emboldened the Russia-supported regime.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The way to pressure Russian Vladimir Putin is to hit those closest to him so they can't enjoy the luxuries of the West they claim to hate so much. President Donald Trump's administration did just that with a new round of sanctions on several oligarchs and government officials. This includes Putin's son-in-law and also Alexey Miller, the main man at Russia's Gazprom.
