Many of you know about Mandy Nagy, our writer who was scheduled to start as our first full-time employee and editor just after Labor Day 2014. It never happened.

At 9:42 a.m. on  Sunday, September 7, 2014, I received an email from an email account I did not recognize regarding something that happened the morning before, with the subject line “Mandy Nagy”:

Every Labor Day weekend, I think about Mandy Nagy. It was just a few days after Labor Day 2014 that everything changed.

Every year since Labor Day 2014, we have remembered and honored our first and former Editor, Mandy Nagy, severely injured by a massive stroke at the age of 45. So much has changed at Legal Insurrection, I think she would be proud.

On this day each year since 2014, we have remembered our first and former Editor, Mandy Nagy, severely injured by a massive stroke at the age of 45. We made a promise in those early days to keep a seat warm for Mandy should she ever be able to return, but it's not to be.

Mandy Nagy was a writer at Legal Insurrection starting in June 2013, joining us after a storied time as Andrew Breitbart's key researcher. Over Labor Day weekend 2014, we made plans for Mandy to become our first full time employee to manage the website. It was not to be.

At 9:42 a.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2014, I received an email at our "contact" email address from an email account I did not recognize with the subject line "Mandy Nagy":

On Sunday, September 7, 2014, I received an email directed to the "contact" email address for Legal Insurrection.

This time of year is always very painful for our Legal Insurrection family. Three years ago our beloved writer and Editor-to-be Mandy Nagy (aka Liberty Chick) suffered a catastrophic stroke in her mid-40s. Readers may recall that before joining Legal Insurrection, Mandy had been Andrew Breitbart’s key researcher and a writer for Breitbart News.

The following Monday, September 8, Mandy was to take over as Editor of Legal Insurrection, joining us full time to run the show. But it was not to be. On Sunday, September 7, 2014, I received an email from Mandy's mother asking me to call her and letting me know that on Saturday, September 6, Mandy had suffered a massive stroke and had undergone surgery. With Mandy's mother's permission, I posted about the situation, Pray for Mandy Nagy. At that post you can track the outpouring of affection for Mandy as well as a chronicle of her condition and frequent updates from her mother.

On Saturday, September 6, 2014, I emailed Mandy Nagy, who had been our part-time Author and Editor for almost 18 months, during which time she wrote over 500 posts. In that time period, I had come to trust Mandy completely, even though we never met. We thought alike, and had the same sense of "maybe we shouldn't actually do that." I was ready to hand the day-to-day operations over to her, so I could focus more on research and investigative posts, speeches, and media appearances. She was to take over the place on Monday, September 8, 2014. It was a Plan. My September 6 email was to set up a time to talk on Sunday about her full-time start on Monday, and what the week looked like. I didn't hear back from her, which was unusual. On Sunday morning I received an email from Mandy's mom, who said she didn't know if the blog "contact" email address went to me or to Mandy, but she hoped I received the email. She told me that Mandy had suffered a massive stroke the day before, and was in the hospital. We spoke immediately, and she gave me permission to alert people in a post that has served since then to provide updates on Mandy's condition, Pray for Mandy Nagy. If you've been following, Mandy Nagy, our beloved editor was recently hospitalized following a stroke. Mandy is invaluable not only to Legal Insurrection, but to the movement. Our good friends at FTR Radio have organized a Thunderclap set to go off at 3:00 PM EST tomorrow.
