In a historic shift, the European Union has imposed sanctions against Communist China for the first time in more than thirty years. Brussels froze Chinese assets and sanctioned four senior Chinese officials for their role in human rights violations inside China -- the first measure of its kind since the end of the Cold War. 

Germany has offered Joe Biden a "Marshall Plan for democracy" in the wake of the U.S. Capitol riot. German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas on Friday called on the incoming Democratic administration to join the European Union in backing a "wide-reaching pro-democracy initiative" to counter the "enemies of liberal democracy."

Four years after the British people voted to leave the European Union, the United Kingdom is finally free to follow its own destiny outside the 25-member bloc. On Thursday night, the island nation formally separated from the EU after an 11-month Brexit transition period.

The United Kingdom and the European Union have agreed on a trade deal just days ahead of the Brexit deadline. Britain is finally on the path to leaving the 27-member European bloc on December 31.

The Palestinians are scared of President Donald Trump's victory in the November 3rd election, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh claims. "God help us, the God help you [European Union] and the whole world if there are four more years of Trump," the Palestinian prime minister warned a group of EU lawmakers on Monday.

Britain's Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Saturday accused the European Union of threatening a food blockade of the country if it failed to agree to the 'divorce' terms imposed by Brussels. "We are now hearing that, unless we agree to the EU's terms, the EU will use an extreme interpretation of the Northern Ireland protocol to impose a full-scale trade border down the Irish Sea," the British prime minister wrote in an op-ed for the Daily Telegraph

European Union economies have taken a big hit in the wake of the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic, registering their biggest decline in recent history. The eurozone economies, comprising of 19 out of 27 EU member states, reported an annualized GPD decline of 40.3 percent, higher than the annualized drop of 32.9 percent registered in the United States. 

The European Union wants to lift the Europe-wide coronavirus travel restrictions to by the end of June, EU Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson said on Friday. "I think we're coming very close to a situation where we should lift all the internal border restrictions and border checks," Johansson told a French broadcaster.
