We all know that millionaire Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) hates banks and the financial sector. The woman seethes about it at every opportunity. Well, the idea of the government easing some some of the banking rules under Dodd-Frank has left her fuming. To make it worse for her SOME OF HER DEMOCRAT COLLEAGUES HAVE AGREED TO IT! For. Shame. Needless to say, the rebellion has caused some headaches for Minority Leader Chuck Schumer at a time the Democrats need unity.

Earlier this week Senate Democrats introduced a tax plan designed to show what Democrats can be expected to do should they win back majorities in Congress. Their press release refers to their avoidance of "gimmicks and giveaways"; this appears to be a reference to the bonuses, pay raises, and private sector investment and job creation afforded by the new tax law.  All of which, the Democrat proposal would roll back.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) needs to snap back into reality. Look, the Democrats do not have control of Congress and Donald Trump is our president and it looks like Schumer still isn't ready to accept the fact that he doesn't have power. Even after he failed with the government shutdown he thinks he has negotiating power when he decided to take wall funding off the table. Trump reminded "Cryin' Chuck Schumer" that in order to receive protections for DACA, a bill must have funding for a wall.

Today is an embarrassing day to be a Democrat. Senate Democrats wasted an entire grandstanding-filled weekend for a whole lotta nuthin. Rather than coming to an agreement with Senate Republicans and President Trump Friday, Democrats ended up accepting the deal (with nothing new in return) Monday.

As this post goes live, there are lots of rumors of some sort of "deal" between Democrat and Republican "moderates" to end the government funding impasse. The Democrats, and particularly Chuck Schumer, have talked themselves into a dead end of seeming to put the interests of illegal aliens ahead of U.S. citizens. That's not a viable political strategy, but it's the strategy Democrats chose by making continued government funding contingent on a DACA deal.

UPDATE: A cloture vote to end debate in the Senate on the funding bill passed by the House failed. So we're heading to "shutdown" unless there is a last minute deal reached. As a reminder of how Obama weaponized the 2013 shutdown, see my post Flashback to when Obama weaponized 2013 government shutdown. 60 votes were needed, and it fell 10 short. 5 Democrats voted Yes: Donnelly, Heitkamp, Manchin, Jones, McCaskill. 4 Republicans voted No: Graham, Paul, Lee, Flake.

Dick Durbin's claim that Donald Trump referred to "s***hole" non-white countries during a closed door DACA negotiation has lit a fire. It appears to be part of a strategy from Durbin and Democrats to walk away from a DACA deal unless they get what they want (primarily amnesty without any changes in immigration practices or border enforcement), preferring to make this a racial issue. Late Wednesday night, Democrats Sen. Schumer and White House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi announced they'd reached a deal with Trump on DACA and that funding for Trump's campaign cornerstone, the border wall, was not part of the agreement, though they'd agreed to include some form of beefed up border security. Trump and White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders both denied any deal was made.

The lesson Democrats appear to have learned from losing to Donald Trump is that they need to move further to the left. We see that in the roll-out of a pathetic new slogan focusing on language invoking FDR's New Deal. As first reported by Jeff Stein at Vox, the slogan is ... (I'm embarrassed for the Dems to even have to type it, it's so bad) ...
"A Better Deal: Better Skills, Better Jobs, Better Wages"
Stein further notes that the slogan is "the result of months of polling and internal deliberations among the House Democratic caucus." Democrat activists/journalists are not loving it:

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has called out Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) over his public comments about the president being under investigation. The problem, Grassley states, is that Schumer knew this was untrue because former FBI head James Comey had briefed not only the Senate Judiciary Committee but the Gang of Eight, including Schumer.  During that briefing in March of this year, Comey stated that the president was not under investigation.  This knowledge did not stop Schumer from, only weeks later, making public statements that he knew to be false.

Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) appeared this morning on Meet the Press and announced that the Republicans are unlikely to reach the 60 votes needed to confirm Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.   Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-) later appeared on the same show and announced that Gorsuch would indeed be confirmed and that it would happen as early as this week. The NY Daily News reports:
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Sunday that President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, likely won’t get the 60 Senate votes he needs for confirmation — even as the GOP ensured Gorsuch is a go.

Senator Schumer reportedly caused a scene at a restaurant in Manhattan, where he lost his cool with a female Trump supporter. Page Six reports:
Schumer, the top Senate Democrat, lost his cool on Sunday night at Upper East Side restaurant Sette Mezzo, according to witnesses. He was dining with friends when he encountered Joseph A. Califano Jr. — the former US secretary of health, education and welfare under President Jimmy Carter and domestic policy adviser to President Lyndon B. Johnson — and his wife, Hilary, who were having a quiet dinner.

The GOP healthcare bill AHCA failed before Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) could even bring it to the floor. Of course, the Democrats have used this opportunity to gloat and take credit on television, even though they hold the minority in the House and Senate. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi led the charge.

Democrats are doing everything they can to obstruct the confirmation of Trump's team. It's not doing much good considering the fact that Betsy DeVos and Jeff Sessions have been confirmed in the last few days. Their strategy is simple. If they can't stop Trump's nominees, they'll just try to damage them as much as possible. Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer had a different attitude about this a few years ago, however. Philip Wegmann reports at the Washington Examiner:
