The height of selfish, self-involved society is upon us. Forget marriage, children, and the growth these relationships bring, 'sologamists' are marrying themselves. Sologamy, or marrying one's self, isn't illegal, but it's also not recognized as a legal union in any state. Sologamists like Erika Anderson of Brooklyn describes her decision to marry herself as "women saying yes to themselves.”

Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff will square off against Republican Karen Handel in the June 20th election for the seat formerly held by Rep. Tom Price who now serves as HHS Secretary. As the runoff special election in Georgia's sixth Congressional district nears the one-month-away mark, national Republican groups are running a slew of anti-Ossoff ads.

Aetna, one of the nation's largest health insurers announced Wednesday it would completely withdraw from Obamacare marketplaces in 2018. Nebraska, Delaware, Virginia, and Iowa are the only Obamacare exchanges where Aetna currently participates. A month ago Aetna announced plans to leave the Iowa market, followed by yet another announcement of a Virginia marketplace exit. With Aetna's withdrawal, Delawareans and Nebraskans will be left with one insurer on the exchange.

Last summer, we blogged about former Florida Rep. Corrine Brown's legal woes. Brown faced, "24 counts ranging fraud, conspiracy to commit mail fraud, making false statements, wire fraud, and more," reported First Coast News in July of 2016. Brown was accused of creating a fake charity called One Door, raising over $800,000, and then using the cash as her own personal slush fund. The charity only dished out $1,200 in donations, according to the prosecutor. Thursday, Brown was convicted on eighteen federal fraud charges.

Yesterday, Trump turned the beltway on end when he abruptly fired FBI Director Comey. In Comey's absence, Andrew McCabe is acting as the interim director. But we want to hear from you. Who do you think should replace Comey as FBI Director?

Jane Sanders, wife of failed presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is reportedly being investigated by the FBI. Sanders allegedly falsified loan documents while serving as President of the now defunct Burlington College (for more on that story, see Mike's post here). Bankrupt and without accreditation, Burlington College closed in 2016.

High ranking Republicans are joining the fight for Georgia's sixth Congressional district. Vacated by former Rep. Tom Price when he left to serve as HHS secretary, Democrats have made the special election a referendum on President Trump's presidential performance thus far. Speaker Paul Ryan will head to Georgia to headline a May 15 Handel campaign event.

The Texas legislature passed a bill Wednesday, banning sanctuary cities in the Lone Star State. Senate Bill 4 requires state law enforcement, including campus cops, to comply with federal immigration law and prohibits municipalities from creating policies or regulations that circumvent established federal laws. The bill specifically prohibits discrimination and allows the state to levy civil penalties on non-compliant entities. After the House approved changes made in the Senate, Senate Bill 4 heads to Governor Abbott's desk. "Banning sanctuary cities is about stopping officials who have sworn to enforce the law from helping people who commit terrible crimes evade immigration detainers. Senate Bill 4 protects all Texans though uniform application of the law without prejudice," said state Sen. Perry.

The House voted to repeal Obamacare Thursday afternoon. And by a slim vote -- 217 to 213, the American Healthcare Act passed. Prior to the final tally being read aloud, some legislatures began singing:

New polling data suggests that there's a silent majority of millennials (those aged 18-34) who ardently support both free speech and religious freedom. The Fund for American Studies conducted the poll and found that contrary to what seems like a never-ending stream of headlines touting millennial love of safe spaces, hatred for ideological and social diversity, and affinity towards homogenized speech might not be telling the whole story. The survey "measures how Americans define freedom and whether they generally support “more” or “less” government interference in their daily lives."

FBI Director Comey testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday, where he was grilled on a handful of issues. Comey defended his decision not to pursue charges against Hillary or her associates for the unlawful sharing of classified information. As he explained, he felt the FBI maintained a burden of proving individuals involved, namely Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner, knew sharing classified information was unlawful. Comey concluded they did not.

All eyes are on the special election in Georgia's sixth Congressional district, recently vacated by former Rep. Tom Price who left the district to serve as HHS Secretary. Democrat Jon Ossoff will face off against Republican Karen Handel in the June 20th runoff election. Internal polling released Tuesday shows the race in a dead heat, meaning the race probably isn't quite so close as the poll indicates.

San Antonio Rep. Joaquin Castro announced Monday he will not challenge Sen. Cruz in the upcoming Senate race. Castro has been pushing off his public announcement since February. As of last week, he was reportedly undecided.
