On Thursday, President Trump announced the great news that he is withdrawing the U. S. from the Paris Climate Agreement, and the response across the internet was predictable.  On Friday, dozens of states and cities announced that they had established a "United States Climate Alliance" to meet the U. S.'s commitment without Washington. Thus far, the California-led effort seems focused on lowering carbon emissions and not on the government's financial commitments. The Los Angeles Times reports:
President Trump may be quitting the Paris accord on climate change — but forcing the rest of the nation to go along with him is proving more of a challenge. Led by California, dozens of states and cities across the country responded Friday to Trump’s attack on the worldwide agreement by vowing to fulfill the U.S. commitment without Washington — a goal that is not out of reach.

We've been reporting on the horrific results of decades of progressive higher education, and while it's one thing to connect the dots and understand that radicals in academia are influencing college students, it's quite another to see how the sausage is made.  The National Association of Scholars (NAS) has released a study that concludes that college common reading lists are designed to make activists, and it's quite fascinating to see the curtain pulled back. The NAS study demonstrates that the nation's common readings list is "designed to indoctrinate students with progressive propaganda."  The assigned books all share common traits:  they are non-academic, adhere to a single political agenda (progressive), are parochial, homogenous, and mediocre.

The 2018 midterms are going to be followed like nothing we've seen before, drawing more mainstream media coverage than did even the 2010 midterms.  Although they have lost two special elections (Kansas and Montana) and failed to avoid a runoff in Georgia, Democrats and their media allies really really want the 2018 midterms to be a referendum on President Trump. While we focus often on the fact that Democrats are divided between the Bernie Sanders-Elizabeth Warren wing and the slightly less radical Cory Booker wing, Republicans, too, are divided.  The 2018 Ohio Senate race for incumbent Sherrod Brown (D)'s seat provides a snapshot of this friction. Conservative, conservative-leaning, and Trump-supporting Republicans are already endorsing Ohio State Treasurer Josh Mandel in what they hope will be a successful rematch between Brown and Mandel.  Mandel lost to Brown in 2012 and last year announced he was running again in 2018.

Last year, Illinois governor Bruce Rauner (R) vetoed a version of Illinois' automatic voter registration bill because he felt that it violated federal election laws and didn't provide enough protections against potential voter fraud.  The state's House and Senate reworked the bill, hoping to satisfy Rauner's concerns, and the revised bill has been passed by the House. U. S. News reports:
The Illinois Legislature has overwhelmingly endorsed a plan to automatically register qualified voters. The proposal would register eligible individuals automatically when they visit Secretary of State's offices and several other state agencies unless they opt out. The House endorsed it 115-0 Monday. It now returns to the Senate for agreements on changes.

A 35-year-old white male fatally stabbed two men and wounded another after they came to the assistance of two Muslim girls the suspect was verbally attacking.  These men, rightly being called "heroes," stepped in to attempt to quiet the raving suspect; two of them were fatally stabbed, the third was wounded. The Los Angeles Times reports:
35-year-old white supremacist with a criminal record has been arrested in connection with the stabbing deaths Friday of two men on a light-rail train in Portland, Ore., who intervened when he began to hurl anti-Muslim epithets at two women, one who was wearing a head scarf, police said. Jeremy Joseph Christian of North Portland was jailed early Saturday on charges of aggravated murder, attempted murder, intimidation in the second degree and felony possession of a restricted weapon. He is being held without bail, and could face additional charges, police said.
The murdered men were Taliesin Myrddin Namkai Meche and Rick Best, while the wounded man is identified as Micah Fletcher.

The Marshall Plan, aka the European Recovery Program, was devised as a means of rebuilding a decimated Europe after World War II. The radical left apparently recognizes, if not accepts ownership of, the decimation their policies have wreaked on America and its people because they are now proposing a "Marshall Plan for America" designed to "rebuild" the America they've all-but-destroyed. John Podesta's Center for American Progress (CAP) is the leader of this plan, signalling that the "centrist" Hillary Clinton arm of the Democratic Party has embraced the socialist-Democrat wing headed up by Bernie Sanders.

CAP is suddenly concerned with the white American working and middle classes "left behind" by the regressive left's identity politics, income redistribution efforts, and SJW fervor.  Their solution to the "forgotten man"?  More central planning, slightly muted but still prevalent identity politics, and of course and always, more income redistribution.

In a move that is sure to go uncelebrated on the regressive left and to leave many Trump supporters scratching their heads, the State Department has lifted the limit on the number of refugees admitted to the U. S.   This change will result in almost twice as many refugees flooding into our country each day. It is not clear at this time if President Trump is aware of or has approved this change of policy, though it seems highly unlikely he would be unaware of such a substantive change.

A Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) Court ruling was declassified and released this week. The ruling reveals that the Obama administration engaged in widespread violation of NSA surveillance rules. The Obama administration was reprimanded by the FISA court for illegal searches that constitute "very serious Fourth Amendment issue.” According to previously classified documents, this admission of methodical and long-term violations of Americans' Constitutional rights was made on October 26th of 2016.

Foreign influence in elections is a long-standing tradition that has ramped up in recent decades with the growing influence of the regressive movement's focus on open borders, a global economy, and global citizenship. Years ago, I saw a story about European leftists demanding the right to vote in American elections, and I was appalled.  The logic was that because America is a—the—world leader, all the world's citizens should have a say in, and cast a countable vote for, who runs our country . . . and the world. U. S. meddling in foreign elections has always been explained as serving our national interests.  Sometimes it did.  Sometimes it didn't. Who can forget Hillary cackling gleefully about the death of Gaddafi?  Or Obama funneling taxpayer money to a left-leaning Israeli campaign infrastructure in an attempt to defeat Prime Minister Netanyahu?

The anti-Trump fervor we've been documenting is not limited to college campuses, the mainstream media, and well-organized and -funded leftist organizations.  The unhinged hatred for our president most recently manifested at California's Democratic Party Convention where its chairman, John Burton, raised his middle finger and lead a chant of “F*%! Donald Trump." The Sacramento Bee reports:
The anti-Trump fervor at California’s Democratic Party convention this weekend can be summarized in choice words from outgoing chair of the California Democratic Party, John Burton: “F*%! Donald Trump.”

Back when Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) still claimed to be a Republican, she came up with the idea of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). That idea, however, morphed into a partisan Democrat operation under Obama, with a structure that sought to exclude itself from Executive or Congressional oversight.  The constitutionality of the CFPB will be decided, yet again, on Wednesday by the D. C. Circuit Court.

In Saudi Arabia for his first foreign trip as president, President Trump delivered a speech on Islamic extremism and the need for the world to unite against and eradicate it.  Trump urged the Muslim-majority countries to "take the lead in combating radicalization" and to expel Islamist extremists from their places of worship, communities, holy lands, and the planet. Some highlights from the full text of President Trump's speech.
"I stand before you as a representative of the American People, to deliver a message of friendship and hope. That is why I chose to make my first foreign visit a trip to the heart of the Muslim world, to the nation that serves as custodian of the two holiest sites in the Islamic Faith." Our goal is a coalition of nations who share the aim of stamping out extremism and providing our children a hopeful future that does honor to God."

The NAACP has determined that its current path is too tame and that the group needs to be far more activist in its resistance to the President. To that end, it is firing its president and working on a “systemwide refresh," inspired apparently by the Black Lives Movement. The New York Times reports:

Mr. Sessions’s order to federal prosecutors to pursue the toughest charges and sentences against drug crime suspects crystallized the decision to press for change at the N.A.A.C.P. The order reversed efforts by the Obama administration to ease penalties for some nonviolent drug offenses and was a 180-degree pivot even for the Republican Party, which had warmed to changes in the criminal justice system.

A 25-year-old Turkish man, reportedly in the States on tourist and student visas, attempted to breach the cockpit of an American Airlines flight from LAX to Hawaii. Anil Uskanli was subdued by passengers, including an off-duty Los Angeles police officer, and duct-taped to his seat until the flight landed at Honolulu International Airport.  Pacific Command scrambled two F-22 Raptors, and the fighter jets escorted the passenger plane to Honolulu. Before boarding the flight to Hawaii, Uskanli was detained at LAX for trespassing when he went through a door from the concourse onto a ramp leading to the airfield.
