We are now in Day 2 of the government shutdown, and things are not moving favorably for the Democrats, and they know it.

One sign may be that some leading Democrats are talking about capitulating on funding a wall on the Mexican border.

The Wall is symbolic in many ways.

Donald Trump’s announcement recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and ordering preparations to commence to relocate the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv, did not lead to the widespread violence that critics predicted. It has, however, caused the Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas to lay bare his decades old anti-Semitism in a recent...

UPDATE: A cloture vote to end debate in the Senate on the funding bill passed by the House failed. So we’re heading to “shutdown” unless there is a last minute deal reached.

As a reminder of how Obama weaponized the 2013 shutdown, see my post Flashback to when Obama weaponized 2013 government shutdown.

It’s unclear at this point whether there will be a short-term budget deal, or a government “shutdown.” Despite the drama, a shutdown is not really a shut down. Essential services continue.

It’s more of a scale-back, and the government has a lot of discretion as to what gets scaled back. In a...

The government just filed a Petition for Writ of Certiorari Before Judgment (full embed at bottom of post)(pdf.) in the Supreme Court seeking pre-judgement review of the federal District Court order preventing the Trump administration from terminating DACA.

That District Court decision was absurd, as pointed out when we covered the decision,
