Saturday, May 12 is the first official Cultural Appreciation Day here at Legal Insurrection. If you've followed the news lately (and we assume that if you're a regular reader, you do), you've been MADE aware that something as innocuous as a thrift store prom purchase triggers half the internet. The social justice warriors beam in from social justice utopia to be judgy, vile, and completely ignorant bullies over something they call "cultural appropriation."

There was an interesting filing recently by Paul Manafort in the prosecution by Robert Mueller's team against him in the Eastern District of Virginia. The filing concerned leaks reported in the media that were attributed by the media to government sources. Some of those media reports alleged Manafort contact with Russians. Manafort file a Motion (pdf.)(full embed at bottom) seeking a court hearing to get to the bottom of the leaks.

This is the story that wouldn't die. Trump's alleged affair with porn star Stormy Daniels is back in the headlines thanks to Trump's own attorney, Rudy Giuliani. During a Fox News segment Wednesday night, Giuliani said Trump reimbursed attorney Michael Cohen $130,000 over a period of months. A payment some claim was "hush money." Guiliani revived the allegations in order to dispell any suspicion of campaign finance impropriety.

WEIRD. Why am I only seeing this in Huffington Post? Oh yeah...that's because other outlets have hyped up Democrat hopes for the midterm. They also think trashing President Donald Trump will help along with constantly talking about numerous social justice issues. Top pollster Stan Greenburg, along with Democracy Corps' Nancy Zdunkewicz, and Women Voices Women Vote President Page Gardner, has accepted reality and warned his party that their "momentum has stalled" and will not pick up if they don't address real issues. You know, JOBS AND THE ECONOMY.

Remember when the left said that President Donald Trump's tax reform would not work because the companies would give those breaks to shareholders instead of reinvesting in the company?
Well, Bloomberg released data that shows capex (capital expenditure) has won out. It shows that the 130 companies in the S&P 500 have increased capital spending by 39%, which is the fastest rate in seven years. Returns to shareholders has only grown by 16%.

Germany condemned remarks on the Holocaust made by President of Palestinian Authority Mahmoud Abbas. In a televised speech on Monday, Abbas claimed that the Holocaust was not caused by antisemitism, but by Jews' "social role related to usury and banks." The Palestinian Authority chief said he was referring to the writings of Karl Marx and other authors.

Signs were recently posted in hallways and bathrooms at Grant High School in Oregon which read "trigger warning: sexual assault" then the word "BEWARE" followed by the names of five male students. This story is an example of the perpetuation of "rape culture" we have often covered on college campuses. Now it's trickling down to high schools, apparently.

We know that the U.S. was defrauded into entering into Obama's Iran nuclear deal. The first fraud was committed by the Obama administration, which deliberately misled the American people and created an echo chamber to amplify and sustain that fraud.

Former Trump campaign aide Michael Caputo did not mince words during a hearing with Senate Intelligence Committee who is still pursuing an investigation into alleged Trump campaign/Russia collusion. Caputo claims the investigation has forced his family out of their home and racked up a whopping $125,000 in legal fees to date.

According to a report in the Financial Times, North Korea released three American detainees. Kim Dong Chul, Kim Hak-song, Kim Sang Duk (aka Tony Kim) were released from labor camps and sent to Pyongyang for medical treatment. The release complies with one of President Trump's requests prior to the upcoming summit.

We recently took a look at the diseased streets of San Francisco, after local reporters revealed a dangerous mix of drug needles, garbage, and feces spread throughout the city's downtown area. Now, as the number of homeless camps across the state skyrocket, union officials for highway maintenance workers are demanding health and safety protections for state employees who are exposed to the biological detritus while cleaning up roadside encampments.
In an official grievance filed last week, the union representing California's maintenance workers accused the state of subjecting its members to hazardous conditions without proper training or equipment.
