Fired? Resigned? Conflicting reports have come out over Omarosa Manigault Newman's departure as director of communications for the White House Office of Public Liasion. The White House said her last day is January 20. From Politico:
"Omarosa Manigault Newman resigned yesterday to pursue other opportunities," the White House said in a statement. "We wish her the best in future endeavors and are grateful for her service."

Last week, Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) announced he will resign in the coming weeks after facing numerous sexual misconduct allegations. Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton (D) has appointed Lt. Gov. Tina Smith (D) to take over Franken's seat whenever the senator does decide to step down.

For over a year we have been covering an incident at Gibson's Bakery in Oberlin, Ohio, close to Oberlin College. The incident involved charges of racial profiling against the Bakery after three black Oberlin students were arrested for shoplifting. When one of the employees, Allyn Gibson, attempted to stop them, a scuffle broke out. The reaction from Oberlin student activists was to make claims of racial profiling, as we documented in our first post on the incident in November 2016, Bakery targeted by Oberlin College #BlackLivesMatter fights back:

UPDATE: AP and networks have called the race for Jones at about 10:25 p.m. Eastern. Moore led most of the night, but Birmingham (Jefferson County) was late reporting, and when it did, it swung the election. Jones won Jefferson County with about 70% of the vote. There will be hot takes galore. Here's my "quick" take:

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) tried to come to the defense of her colleague Sen. Kristin Gillibrand (D-NY) after President Donald Trump claimed that the latter used to beg him for campaign contributions "and would do anything for them." Warren fired back on Twitter and asked Trump if he is "really trying to bully, intimidate and slut-shame" Gillibrand. But this is another example of the media's weird obsession with Trump's Twitter account while ignoring other big stories go below the fold.

During Monday's White House press briefing, CNN's Jim Acosta worked to make himself a story. Again. Acosta asked about Trump's claim that media is "fake news", which lead to a heated exchange with White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders.

Georgetown Law Professor Randy Barnett had a tweet on December 5, 2017, that I've been meaning to write about. It reflects a subject I, and others, have been focusing on since election night -- the refusal of Democrats and #NeverTrump Republicans to accept the outcome of the election not just emotionally, but as to the transfer of power that continues to this day, over a year since the 2016 election. Here is Prof. Barnett's tweet, referencing the attempt by outgoing CFPB Director Richard Cordray preemptively to install Leandra English as Interim Director over the objections of the Trump administration.

A complaint launched by the pro-life group, The Center for Medical Progress back in September of 2015 has resulted in the shuttering of two California-based bioscience companies. The CMP gained notoriety for releasing a string of undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood's role in the aborted baby part industry.
